I searched for this topic but didn't see it posted so I apologize if someone already reported this... but I just saw some photos online that they are building 4 additional cabanas on the family beach at Castaway! They should be ready sometime this summer. Smart move for DCL since the cabanas always sell out! :)

I bet they could add 20 more and they'd still sell out. Unfortunately they don't have room for 20 more, so the alternative is to keep raising the price. I hate that option, but I'm afraid it will come.

I am afraid you are right! They are already a bit pricey, but worth every penny in my book!! :)

How long did it take to develop Castaway Cay as it is today? I know the airstrip was already there. Is there anything aside from money that prohibits development on the other side of the island. Almost due east of the hub of activity looks to be a fairly shallow area with lots of nice white sand.

According to WIkipedia (which is never wrong of course :)) it took 18 months to make it into what it is. Of course when the Dream and Fantasy were announced it was expanded and I don't remember how long that took. It is possible they could develop some more of it should they be so inclined.

Another thing to keep in mind is that some stuff they don't like doing while guests are on the island. The construction of the new cabanas took a long time because they did not work on them when guests were present. Didn't want to disrupt I guess. So unless any new developing & expanding is done well away from existing guest areas, it would take waaaaay longer than the initial work since they only work on days ships are not in.

And the days ships aren't there are getting fewer and fewer. :)

It's a really expensive splurge I'm glad we were able to get one last April. Our son had eye surgery the day before we sailed and it kept the sun and sand out of his eye plus the couch gave I'm a nicer place to nap since he was still on the pain meds.
