New Everest Lighting Scheme!

Hey folks, me again-

While at AK tonight, I was very (pleasantly) suprised once I made my way over to Everest. Up until now Everest has had big white spotlights lighting it up at night... but it appears as if they have added color slides to the spots, giving the mountain a whole new look after dark. Rather than plain white, most of the mountain is now a purple-ish color, with the rear peaks being more of a red. (Sorry my photo doesn't really do it justice... it looks 10x better in person, but you get the idea.)

It looks fantastic in person, the colors are much like those found in a dramatic sunset, and it gives the mountain a whole new feel---Almost a bit eerie like ToT.

Click HERE for more photos and larger versions of the ones shown here.

Enjoy!:)

Looks like someone at WDI took out their Rosco gel color book and turned right to Sangria and Salmon.

yeah... it's almost a bit too harsh. I mean.. whats wrong with more 'natural' lighting effects. This is too purple and harsh... IMO.

ha ha. nice.

I like this. I remember when the first shots were posted the flood lights looked a little minimal for a Disney mountain. This is much more what I was expecting. I do agree that it is a little, well, pinkish-purple, but I think it looks cool. How does it look from afar, specifically in the rest of the park?

I agree, but maybe it looks better in person. If not, perhaps it would look better if the colors were lighter...I don't see why they used purple though...orange maybe...but purple? :veryconfu

Thanks for sharing imagineersrock!

I think it looks really good...keep in mind Disney is looking for a FORBIDDEN MOUNTAIN look, not an accurate, realistic, friendly look.

So Disney discovered what gels do in spotlights! Mousermerf...that was good!

Thanks for the Update!

From the back view, in the parking lot I saw this last night. However on the back side the only thing that shows up was a light red glow on the top of the mountin. That in effect made it appear as if a nice orange/red sunset was casting it's light on it. Look very good.

Now, from the photos you've posted I'd have to say that the front view is less, well attractive.

Remember, this may not be the final version of the lighting scheme.
And that as the OP said the picture does not do it justice. If his camera is anything like mine the colors on night shots are not always accurate.

That's right, keep in mind that it looks fairly different in person than the way my camera captured it.

From the photos, I can see why some of you are so "AHH PURPLE!"---But In person, it really didn't strike me that way. It's a bit more subtle than how it shows up in the photos.

Like I said in my original post, it looks much like what you described from the front as well. Much of the mountain has a light purple tint to it, while the top right is more of a redish color. Again, the 2 different colors are much more obvious in person.

Is it just me, or do you almost expect Wishes to start when you're looking at it?!

It is definetly not just you. I was thinking the same exact thing. I can appreciate the look they are going for but I think they may have missed the mark just a little bit and headed into Cinderella Castle territory. However, as many have said this may not be the final cut. I'll only get worried if the colors start changing and they project images of the Yeti onto the mountain...(a la Cindy's stars and hearts).

Steve you are correct - I have the anticipated final version artwork though:

Okay... So back on topic, for those voicing their concern about the mountain being too bright or too purple, I figured I'd post some of the shots I took with flash.

From the Theater in the Wild walkway:

From the Everest viewing area:

From across the water:

And finally one on-ride:

While in person it is not as dark as these photos, it is also not as bright as the photos without flash.....So, if you can imagine something in-between these two sets of photos, you get the basic idea of what this new lighting looks like. Again, none of these photos can recreate what it is like to actually see it in person.
