If I order a wagyu steak in a restaurant, I'd like to think it has never been frozen.

well now that I see the offsite bakery, I would not call it a "factory" but instead a "Manufacturing Facility"...31200 sq ft! That is HUGE! About twice the size of a Home Goods or TJ Maxx store....I wonder if she is baking the cakes for all of her restaurants and shipping them out of Florida now? That size baking operation would have to produce more than just the baked goods for one medium sized restaurant....

Some of the 31200 is office and administrative space.
I've read the space is just for Disney.

Speculation suggests CBS may be contracting with Disney to bake specialty (wedding) cakes.

That is exactly what she said they were doing. It’s both a support facility for the Cake Bake Shop physical location and a new, additional hub for the online orders her business already handles.

It’s also not unusual for these types of facilities to take on work for others. Not sure if they would but it’s an option to help supplement revenue.

Why are people just taking it as fact that they are frozen? That makes absolutely no sense. There’s no advantage to freezing the cakes for the short trip from Poinciana to Walt Disney World. That would just require more time and more space, including more space at the restaurant when a big part of doing things offsite is to maximize the dining space.

I think CBS will eventually settle into a special event destination spot for most of its clientele. So bridal parties, birthdays, anniversaries, things like that. Now I don't know if that's enough to keep the lights on, but it seems more tailored to those one-off party occasions than everyday eating.

Actually I am not sure about frozen, but very cold refrigeration will stabilize a cake for travel and reduce the amount of damage that can happen in transit...which would make perfect sense when transporting cakes that would have a retail price of about $300 each...

1) I just emailed them asking if they freeze the cakes between Kissimmee and the boardwalk
2) They do freeze any of their products that are sent out for delivery. So, the freezers at the kitchen do NOT mean that the products at the boardwalk were frozen.

We currently ship 6" and 8" cakes, pies, and desserts. We ship via UPS Monday thru Wednesday. We do not ship on Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or major US holidays. Your product will be frozen and, depending on the item, will have dry ice inside the shipping package. We recommend selecting Next Day Air/Saver to ship during the summer.

That place isn’t good enough for succulents, I’ve never seen one photo of Julie Andrews in or around that place! She did, however, sing at the opening of the first Cake Bake Shop in 1957, so there’s that.

I’ve seen a lot of reviews in my various Facebook groups and they have all been positive. People love the swanky feel of the interior and overall, the consensus is that food is good, but obviously pricey. Every review I’ve seen has stated the cake slices are big enough to share. I do think this will do well as people check it out and give it a try. It will be interesting to see how long it actually lasts but for now, I think it will do well.

If the prices for this were 10-15% less and replaced the Grand Floridian Cafe, it would absolutely work. The savory food that is on offer is fine, but isn't special enough to warrant a "special" visit across property, but rather feels like a menu you'd find at a fancy hotel's "casual sit down" restaurant (breakfast, sandwiches, soups, some entrees, etc). That's kind of what this should function as for BWI, but they're trying to market themselves as a special occasion signature place and that's not really what's coming through with the food.

The Grand Floridian Cafe won't replace it, it has to stay Disney. It is the quiticential of a Disney resort representive setting, and atmosphere.

Unless you've eaten everything on that menu there, you cannot speak for whether it's special enough to warrant a visit across property! Nor judge warrent on what's coming with the food or whether it fits. What food do you expect it to be...

Honestly it really would have....and then let Gwendolyn Rogers handle their daily Tea with special guests from Disney entertainment.... It certainly would have made a lot of sense...Since the whole afternoon Tea thing at the Grand Floridian went on hiatus for a few years.... But this is the era Disney Topsy Turvey Day decision making.... Cars in Frontierland, Mulan in Communicore, A super fancy Cake shop and fussy restaurant at The Boardwalk, so maybe now a Sports Bar at the Grand Floridian, and a bowling alley and Tacqueria at the Polynesian!

100% I think she was eager for a WDW location, BW space was open and the theme ever so loosely fit.

I just think the food is basically very overpriced cafe food with some fancy cakes. The atmosphere and price point mostly doesn't match the creativity or quality of most of the food. Breakfast is a slightly better value proposition.
