New Enhancements, Dining Options Coming to Disney’s BoardWalk

If I were unfamiliar, wanted a sandwich, and looked at the guide map, I probably would not guess the "cake Bake" shop had any. Besides that I think this will work great, disney goers like sweets. A local hotel has tea service and it's exxtremely popular, a nice non-alchoholic activity.

I think a run down seaside oyster bar type theme would be packed to the rafters, possibly the most popular eats on property. Unfinished rotting wood, outside seating, draft craft beer, yes. Missed opportunity there. I agree with Ryan it fit's the GF better, but it's not too far off the boardwalk hotel interior.

Sorry but I think discussing the poly rooms in this thread is too far off topic.

Yeah, it feels like this restaurant should be at the Grand Floridian.
I also think this restaurant pulls the Boardwalk further away from being a fun evening destination. The Dance Hall has never taken off, probably because they just don't market it right or make it interesting, the magic drink lounge is fine as long as you don't go there expecting real magic entertainment (which one would hope for). So we are just left with the piano bar
At least with ESPN you had a proper sports bar, which I am sure pulled in customers on NFL Sundays and during March Madness and playoffs.
This restaurant just screams lunch and brunch to me and doesn't fit the '"fun" boardwalk aesthetic at all.

Also off topic but I also don't love the new Poly rooms, way too bright and the walls look cheap. But I do love the new floors.

I have memories of buying all kinds of goodies at the BW bakery, even fresh baked bread. It was a highlight for my kids, especially after the killed Mainstreet bakery. We even have pics on my youngest "growing up" every year with a Key lime tart from YBC. That is also gone.

Now they are replacing a bakery with a bakery?

So I got an enormous (and fabulous) slice of hummingbird cake from the world-famous Magnolia Bakery in NYC yesterday. Large enough to share.

It was like $8. At the Rockefeller Center location.

What are they smoking charging $16 in Indiana?

Even now I’m dreaming of this hummingbird cake. Time for a cold shower.

There's a bakery in Atlanta that sells cake slices for $6 (I think) and they're large slices. They have some of the best cake I've eaten anywhere, so the idea of paying $16 for a slice (likely more with the Disney markup) that's almost certainly not as good as what I can get at home seems absurd.

I realize that's true of almost all the food at Disney (i.e. more expensive than higher quality options at home), but it just seems especially egregious for a slice of cake. I have to eat meals; I don't have to eat cake.

Bummed about ESPN closing, been there many times to watch random weeknight hockey games and football on the weekends. Was nice to request to watch Rangers vs Canucks at your table and not get looked at like you were nuts. CityWorks fills the sports bar void a bit but ESPN had its own great charm.

The new restaurant would be perfect for the Grand Floridian. I would be so happy if they built it there instead. And Enchanted Rose belongs at Riviera. Why does Disney keep building things in the wrong resorts? Maybe they’ll put something that belongs at BW at Wilderness Lodge.

With the High Tea being offered it kinda made me wonder if they intend to not bring the offerings back at GF.
Looking at reviews, reservations recommended, take out 15-20 minute wait. A Disney location is only going to multiple that.
Not to mention, any takeout might compete with the France Pavillions offerings a short walk away.

I winder if somewhere in the spreadsheets BW is meant to maintain a certain amount of third party venues? Cat Cora “went to go spend more time with her family” then we got ample hills who didn’t make it and now we get this one.

I think one problem is the public is turned away. Without a reservation so many people just gave up, I know we did. We use to like to stroll and grab a meal etc on a whim and visit the different spots during the time when you were allowed to park for a certain alotted time without a reservation. But they pretty much ousted everyone unless your staying right there. And the majority of those people are off in the parks more so these places have a hard time making it.

We greatly enjoy the BoardWalk and stay there at least once a year.

However, having looked at The Cake Bake Shop's menu, $26 Club and $26 Po' Boy sandwiches solves none of the BoardWalk's quick service dining problems. :(

WDW is in desperate need of a good sports bar. We've tried Rix (Coronado Springs), Splitsville (Disney Springs), as well as a bevy of other hotel bars. All pale compared to the ESPN Club.

Unfortunately, The Cake Bake Shop seems like one step forward (reopening the ESPN Club space) and two steps back (yet another overpriced restaurant at a location that already has two and the loss of Disney's best sports bar).
This is why you have to walk over to Beach Club.
We stayed at BoardWalk once, and while we liked it a lot - I kept looking across the lake at Beach Club.
When it came time to book future stays, it was Beach Club for years.

The real problem with Board Walk, it needs dedicated parking for people not staying at the resorts. Dedicated bus/tram from Disney Springs? Real reason the BW never took off. I'm pretty sure BW hotel is usually dead, they should just let people just park so they can enjoy the BW, the more people the more opportunity to make money. BW always seemed like a stranded oasis, horrible design, hard to get to and an unpleasantly long walk to leave.

Ya, I don't even mind if non-guest parking is in the overflow lots. The last time we drove to Beach Club, we made breakfast reservations to make sure we could get in. We wanted to walk around, but the parking security made us hang out at a gas station for 45 mins, because we were too early for the reservation.
