New Enhancements, Dining Options Coming to Disney’s BoardWalk

The Cake Bake Shop is an existing restaurant with two other locations. Here is the menu from the Broad Ripple location:
They think adding an 'e' to the end of words like 'soup' makes them upmarket, when it's just expensive and pretentious. Not bothered about that place.

I will miss ESPN. It was a fun place to go. We watched baseball games and tournament games there. It was our go to for drinks and appetizers later at night or when we arrived before we could check in. This is more a place for the Grand Floridian than the Boardwalk. The boardwalks I have vacationed at at beachside resorts are fun, cheap eat places. Boardwalks have hot dogs, burgers, corn dogs, fries, etc. An $80 afternoon tea is ridiculous. The sad thing is people will pay and Chopek will rake in more money. If it wasn't for our family owning a DVC, would doubt we would be going to Disney.

The real problem with Board Walk, it needs dedicated parking for people not staying at the resorts. Dedicated bus/tram from Disney Springs? Real reason the BW never took off. I'm pretty sure BW hotel is usually dead, they should just let people just park so they can enjoy the BW, the more people the more opportunity to make money. BW always seemed like a stranded oasis, horrible design, hard to get to and an unpleasantly long walk to leave.
Honestly, with Disney Springs there's not much reason for people not staying at Boardwalk to go there (short of using it to walk to Epcot). You still have the water view, shopping, and other things to do. We used to like visiting once per trip, but I don't feel like it really offers much. Maybe if Boardwalk had more interactive carnival type activities it could attract more people.

The Boardwalk could use some real casual food...Something general like the Cafe at the GF.... This al seems too light and fluffy and sweet-centric... Where can I get a club sandwich, chicken tenders for the kid and a burger for my partner... Good quality Diner Fare... That would be a convenient restaurant to have. If this were just replacing the bakery, that would be fine, but with the only alternative Italian or the questionable food I have had at Big River, they need something better.

The current bakery becoming a sandwich shop will help some of that concern, but your point is still valid.

Ale & Compass, sort of? They definitely have a burger. :D
Beaches & Cream used to have club sandwich type fare, hopefully still do.

And there is a place at Swan/Dolphin too I think - yes, The Fountain.
So, maybe not exactly on the Boardwalk...a short walk. 😬

Do we not think at least the existing Boardwalk Bakery becoming a sandwich shop will have good sandwiches? I was thinking it would be like deli rather than a Subway. Hoping anyways.

The bake shop and the sandwich shop are different entities. We are getting a Famcy Nancy tea time place and we are also getting a Subway, basically. Real high-class strip mall vibe.
Is the Cake Bake Shop taking over Boardwalk Bakery? If not, there will be two spaces right next each other to grab sandwiches.

I don't think you can grab a sandwich at the Cake Bake Shop; I think you have to sit down and order a meal. Your meal can be a sandwich, of course, but definitely not the same thing as a QS spot.

Right. I’m picturing the walk-up at Cake Bake being like the walk up at Toothsome at Universal. Just treats. Brownies, bars, cupcakes, etc. Sandwich shop next door would be Disney-run with pastry at breakfast time. More Disney treats would be at the gift shop down the way (Stage Door, I think?).

Yeah, this seems strange. I'm sad to see espn close for the sports bar aspect, but good lord that place needed to be overhauled. Over like 10 years, the menu shrunk, the portions shrunk, and the prices trippled. I could live with it having the worst service of anywhere in disney when we got good bar food for cheap, but not when two chicken tenders cost $15. There is such a need market for a good sports bar at WDW.
