New Enhancements, Dining Options Coming to Disney’s BoardWalk

Especially with new aand expanded meeting facilities going in at the Swan, it would have made sense for Disney to have a good CASUAL dining option open late night...A place to have a meal that is not fast food nor a fancy expensive dinner with a $26 slice of cake. They need a general sort of everythng Diner fare place for After park dining.... They now have more than enough signature dining on Crescent Lake...
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/dolphin-hotel/fountain/ and https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/dolphin-hotel/cabana-bar-and-beach-club/ are covering the S&D crowd I think

But Disney has more rooms on Crescent Lake than the S&D... and if I am staying at the Boardwalk or Beach Club, I would generally not go over to the Dolphin to look for food... I would expect my much more expensive resort to have a convenient late night dining venue.
I have stayed at the Dolphin a lot over the years and it seems like every time I stayed there either The Fountain was closed or completely empty... And seriously they need someplace that is open until at least 12am...

Sorry I was responding to this part of your statement:

Agreed - I know opinions are mixed here, but heading to S&D feels like I'm leaving the bubble. I'll do it for a change (or even some random Karaoke) but I'd rather enjoy the ambiance of cresent lake when paying to stay there.

I guess this comes down to can the cake bake shop only be viable with their overpricing (a la Star Cruiser), or are their margins actually obscene?

Steve's comparator between Gideons and Cake Bake shop is certainly telling.

They seem to have brought their breakfast pricing back down to earth, but the baked goods are not. I think the venue will survive, but I think we'll see a second round of repricing to salvage it.

$7 for a 50 cent cookie at Publix is wild.

Probably not a great waffles-to-waffles comparison, but a Belgian Waffle at Original Pancake House locally goes for $6.95. The Cake Bake Shop's waffle has "pink vanilla buttercream" and comes with "Vermont maple syrup", which is probably why it's nearly 2.5x higher priced... ??

The comparison between Publix grocery store and a real honest to goodness bakery are invalid... And quite frankly the reason we have so few real bakeries left in this country... People go for convenience rather than quality... sadly. There may come a time when the only baked goods we can get are from a commercial factory... It is certainly true in many places where the bakeries abd butcher shops were driven out of business by the cheaper commercially produced inferior quality baked goods and meats. I make it a point to only buy cakes from a real bakery... to support those businesses... never Publix!!

The appearence and price debate is fair and just!

Funny no one mentions Summer House or Gideons cookies as Publix! 🙄

I just been super annoyed by LBV TV, WrightDownMainStreet, PMM blasting referencing Publix etc just because how their review taste, never hearing them say Publix quality at other places, yet they raving they would come back.
