New DVC Resort

Why not get rid of the useless speedway and build the DVC - or any resort - inside that secluded berm.

Sure, it's outdated. But look at HKDL.... brand new speedway with electric (quiet) cars and a beauitufl landscape. There's so much potential. And it's a classic ride itself. I believe opening day?

It's one of my family's favorites. Something about it screams nostalgia and good ole' fashion FUN.

I think they are talking about the Richard Petty Drive-Along: Experience of a Lifetime at Walt Disney World Speedway Orlando at the Magic Kingdom and not the Tomorrowland speedway

Hurricanes shouldn't matter for a parking structure but with the high watertable, they will have to be drive down the support pylons a hundred feet into the earth.

There are 3 parking garages already on property already.:shrug: So let me add a bit to the watertable and pylons argument many default to. Look no further than the CR. The contemporary is a massive heavy structure that has been in place for over 40 years. Not to mention the heavy supports for the monorail. I realize it has a massive foundation to match but it is not sinking and it is located in the heart of the 'swampland' WDW was built out of. If the land can support the weight of the Contemporary, than a parking garage is not a big deal in the right spot. I do realize there are unstable areas on property that can't support such structures.

As for the watertable, again look at the Contemporary. The access road goes under the water bridge. It does not get much wetter than that. Again this has been there since the beginning with no major issues I know of. So proper engineering can work around these 'problems' rather easily. As for the extra cost, I have that covered. Well not literally. :lol:

For Disney, there is not going to be a roi for constructing and maintaining a parking structure for theme park parking vs just expanding what is already in place.

Right. The only reason they built the massive garage at DL was because they're landlocked. That problem does not exist in FL.

Plenty of room to build more hotels, including at least one more monorail hotel, without tearing down the TTC and building parking garages with money that could go toward more rides and attractions.

Nobody is going to make the decision to go to WDW because they built a new parking garage and it will take 10 minutes less to get to the park. They'll go because they heard Animal Kingdom finally got it's 5th worth attraction, or because DHS is finally welcoming guests to Pixar Place.

Shades of Green has a fairly large parking structure as does the new AKL DVC. There is also a large structure at the Studios. I agree it does add to the cost but I think there is a workaround that would cost Disney little if anything.

I'm hoping that if the HSR is approved that Disney will take the initiative or possibly they have been waiting to unveil some new stuff. And, if so, it would certainly trump anything I could 'armchair imagineer'.

We won't have to wait long in any case.

that garage was added by the us military in their last round of updates, disney didn't pay for it. the backlot garage was built for the employees of the working studios, it made sense to build that instead of running a park and bus lot. as for the Kidani garage, it is ground level parking with 4 floors of parking on top.
