This is simply Disney's answer to take fans away from sites such as this one -- places where Disney might actually be taken to task and criticized -- and make everything a world of pixie dusted perfection.

Just the words 'social media' hit me like 'homeland security' ... as in we'll control the message and we'll let you have your say, provided it follows our company line.

They'd never 'allow' a post by someone like me to make it through.

To all the fans who enjoy it, great.

I'll stick to places like LaughingPlace.com (which strangely has had its boards down since first thing this morning) and this MAGICAL realm. If I want the company line, then I'll check out a press release.

I don't need Disney to control my fan discussions.

Oh, and I doubt Ghost Galaxy would ever make it to Orlando. First, you'd have the BS excuse about 'we can't have one of our most popular attractions closed for two weeks to install it' ... then, you'd have the small costs inherent in bringing the overlay. Finally, you'd also have all the folks who believe everything at WDW has to be acceptable for 6-year-olds.

Of course, that group would be horrified if they had the DLP version of SW instead of the neutered version we have at MK too.
I will visit but not comment. I really like the behind-the-scenes stuff. But yeah if you read the comments 'you get the impression that Disney is perfect and can do no wrong.

Maybe for people who just signed up but a little blog (like nearly every other company has) will not do any damage to fansites such as this one. Blogs are more for information, then just comments on that info. vBulletin software, like WDWMagic is running is made for on going discussion. While they are similar, they are still quite different.

I tried it and got posted. I asked how many parks and which parks were considered (maybe the ones he took kids to). Don't know if I'll get a response.

Ooh, well done! :sohappy:

You went at it in a subversive way, by asking a question on what "parks" Walt wandered through besides Disneyland. I tried to be very polite and gracious, but I went at it by reminding Mr. Smith flat out that Walt only ever "wandered" Disneyland, and that there were no plural "parks" by the time he passed away in 1966.

My comment was "awaiting moderation" for a few minutes, and then disappeared mysteriously. Congrats to you on at least getting the point out there publicly.

Funny thing is that I've put in a few other vapid, mindless, rah-rah-Disney Parks! comments this afternoon, and they zip right through and are approved.

Hah! No surprise.

I wonder what would happen if someone asked about the transportation management reorganization that just took place ... or about Michael Jordan leaving Napa Rose ... or about why there aren't free tastings at Food and Wine etc ... of course, we know that's not the place for such serious topics. Thankfully, we've got places like this to do so.

An actual official "Disney Parks" message Board would be painful to read.

I don't think America has enough bored housewives hopped up on Xanax to keep such a thing going with nothing but happy-shiny-perky-politically correct comments.

Not sure if you're just stating that generally, but it sure would be. Fan-run sites a much better because we can voice our opinion. (to a degree, depending on the site you're at ;))

It's about time for something, as long as they keep it well maintained.

Liking the holiday overlay for SM, though. You'd figure we could get something holiday at all in Florida.
