new campaign "LET THE MEMORIES BEGIN"

I miss my chocolate mousse boat that I'd used to get at the Coral Reef restaurant. It was so light and delicious. It also had little white chocolate sticks for paddles. Mmm...

Oh, oh. I also miss the Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah Tip for Today bumpers and things from when I was younger. I also was very entertained by the man in the Park Hopper Ticket costume.

They dont do that anymore? i used to annoy the CRAP out of my GF singing that for like half an hour on our way to the parks lol. To be honest it would have ended 5 mins after but she told me how annoying it was so..... well you get the idea lol

Nope, it's been retired for years.

Very insightful post. You would think that given how many fond memories guests has had of WDW, and especially of features of WDW that aren't around anymore, you'd think Disney would do SOMETHING to commemorate them. And not all of these things would be as grand a gesture as reopening Horizons, either. Reopen the Adventurer's Club, restore the Chinese theater as the main icon of DHS, put the old Tiki Room show back in, play up EPCOT Center history by going back to the old name logo... There's a vast plethora of Disney history that they could really use to play up on guest's ACTUAL WDW memories, and you'd think that with a campaign based on nostalgia they would at least utilize some of it.

When Disneyland put on their heavily nostalgia-based Happiest Homecoming On Earth, they made several smaller gestures like creating a fireworks show featuring the sounds and music of classic attractions, putting vintage ride posters in the entry tunnels, reopening their long-dormant Tiki Room, repainting their Tomorrowland to something closer to its original color scheme, and putting ride vehicles from extinct attractions out on display. Nothing huge or budget-breaking, but enough that older guests would have tangible ways to actually connect with the park's history, ie, their memories, while celebrating the park's anniversary.

And what do we get? We get a darkened castle every night, plastered with the faces of people we've never met. And if these will in fact be projected on every park icon, then we also get confirmation that the hat will be sticking around another year.

Hopefully there are some other, more impressive announcements that they are holding out on until the campaign gets rolling. I won't hold my breath though.

I find myself always agreeing with you. Well done.

I agree with your sentiments. But I have to say, I saw a commercial based on the "Let The Memories Begin" campaign the other day, and it was great. It showed real home movies of parents telling their kids they were going to Disneyland or Disney World, and the kids' reactions. PRICELESS. :sohappy: Now that kind of campaign is worthy of the Parks' spirit. But I have to admit that's the only part of this new campaign I'm liking so far. But I hope to be happily surprised as the campaign continues.

well, here's my real point in starting this thread. While Disney remains the happiest place on Earth, when walking by what was or what used to be one of my fav and missed attractions, it can be depressing.

I miss when Figment was out and about in Epcot and that little robot that would roll around and talk to guests. I was super impressed with him back in 85.

i also miss the name MGM. can't get used to hollywood studios.
i miss the earful tower too. i know it's still there, but that stupid hat has taken over everything.
i also miss the great movie ride being in good condition! the ripley animatronic in the alien segment has definately seen better days, and the alien doesn't jump out of the roof like it used to. fix it!!

i suppose i don't have many issues with closed rides. i was either too young to remember them or they shut before i ever got to go. i would have liked to have gone on 20k though, and the wonders of life i wish i'd seen.
