Anyone heard rumors that another attraction besides Avatar is on the table for Animal Kingdom? I believe there could be some truth to some rumors floating around.

I recall someone stating that Joe Rohde was going to utilize some of the Avatarland budget for a new attraction in Asia.

I hope we finally get a another new attraction that is innovative, not based on a film or television franchise, not a clone attraction, and fits the theme of the park and land that it is placed in. I also hope they don't destroy a previously existing attraction to make a new one.

Well, DAK needs more rides and there is a big gaping hole next to Asia (between there and Rafiki's) that could fit a sizable ride. If they wanted to tie it to a franchise, they could always do something from Jungle Book.

I really wish they would do Australian animals instead of expanding Asia...but Asia does need some filling out so I am torn on what to say here. Is it better to introduce a whole new area or to make what's there even better?
I need to do more research on this because I do not know a lot about it but I see here and there references to a big water ride that they had planned for Asia that would have been on par with the Kilimanjaro Safari they built for Africa...and it would have been a boat ride that would have allowed you to see all sorts of Asian animals from that vantage point. Sort of a live Jungle Cruise.

But that got scrapped as too expensive. From what I understand they even cleared all the land for this but then didn't build it. Maybe they will build it now.

It's funny that while DAK is my favorite of all the parks I really don't know a lot about its construction. To be honest, I was upset for many years that the Beastly Kingdom was never built and it still kind of hurts to look at the original concept art of what was thought up in Blue Sky phases. I saw a Prehistoric Jungle Cruise that would have been AMAZING. But, once again, it was too expensive.

Sometimes being a Disney parks fan makes me feel like a kid at Christmas who wants all sorts of big toys but knows her family can only afford a little one here or there. It's hard to not want something, and it's so frustrating to see such magical ideas that I know won't be built because of money issues.

I always feel like I am missing something on threads like this...but if someone is going to talk about "rumors floating around", then why not say what those rumors are?

As in..."I heard that TDO is looking at building XXXXXXXXXXX at Animal Kingdom and the rumor is that it will include XXXXXXXX and XXXXXXXX. I have seen this rumor posted on several competing sites and my bus driver and monorail conductor told me this rumor on my last trip to WDW last week".

Why not tell us what you have heard instead of being so mysterious about it?

I know forum rules don't allow posting links to competing sites, but I've seen other people paraphrase what they learned there and then discuss the information here.

I can't see any expansion that includes live animals. They are trying so hard to figure out ways to make this park a full day and night experience that you can bet there will be no live animals in the next expansion even if it isn't Avatar.

While that's likely true, I don't think it excludes live animals being added. For example, I don't think Disney would pass up the opportunity to add Giant Pandas (as has been rumored in the past) if that were to be an option.

That said, I would expect live animals additions to be relatively modest going forward. If they were to add Australia, it would probably be heavier on rides/shows than an animals, I'd expect. I've long argued that a "Critter Country" featuring attractions based on various Disney animal franchises would make a lot of sense as a new land -- sort of a Fantasyland for animals.

VERY astute comment. I had not thought about that angle. You are spot-on correct. They will want to find something that can be open at night...so that thing will have to be quiet and inside a building so that it does not disturb the animals that are already there.

This limits what they could be up to...definitely no roller coaster or rides outside that have people screaming and cheering.

Could they maybe build the Indiana Jones ride in Asia at DAK...the one that's in California? That would be inside a very large show building and could be themed to Indy going to find some kind of animal that is rare in Asia, maybe an Asian unicorn creature?

Too much like Dinosaur, I know...but you get the idea. It would be inside a building and would not bother the animals who are sleeping elsewhere.

To me a South America themed land would honestly meet all of DAKs needs.
1. New Land
2. Exotic South American animals/trails
3. Lots of Culture and Crusine
4. Matches existing lands and theme
5. Character tie ins with Up and Emperor's New Groove
6. Ride possibilities featuring Incan, Mayan, or Aztec storylines, and many diverse landscapes
7. Distinct architecture

The land could easily house a quick service restaurant, small show or interactive experience; small ride, larger e-ticket ride, a character meet and greet, and an animal trail.

The Shanghai Disneyland makes me wonder if pandas really could happen.

China is very reluctant to ever part with pandas. But, Shanghai Disneyland's construction might be an incentive for China to reward Disney with pandas for DAK if that new park is a big boon for Shanghai.

This could be fascinating.

Despite the fact that I don't think it'll ever happen, I'm definitely cool with spreading a rumor that they're replacing Camp Minnie-Mickey with "South America," anchored by an Indiana Jones boat ride

I don't get my info from bus/monorail drivers. I didn't read this or hear this from another site either. I think there are several possible things in the pipeline for DAK. What I am asking is, if any of the insiders have heard recent rumblings about something new.
