Yay! I loved Superstar TV. I always tried to get in the show, and a few times I even succeeded.
For those who haven't seen it, I'll give a quick rundown. There was a selection process outside before the show, where the 'casting director' would pick audience members (adults and children, men and women) for various roles like baseball player or people from Gilligan's Island.
These people would be given a card telling them their role, and they would go backstage, where the costume people would sort them out with a cool Velcro costume that fastened at the back. When this was done they'd go to the stage area and take a seat, and wait for their part of the show to start.
While this was going on, the audience would move into the theatre and take a seat (moving all the way along the row and filling in all available space :animwink: ). There was a large stage with different sets on it. TV cameras were on the stage and these would send a feed to the gallery, who would send images to the TV monitors that were all around the theatre. There were also signs for APPLAUSE that would light up.
The stage was cool in that it had a turntable which contained the different sets. The Cheers bar was on one section of the turntable, and I think Gilligan's Island was on another.
The show was the same every time, but with different guests playing the various roles. Some scenes used blue screen technology. The guests would be told when to take their positions on the stage, and those with a speaking role read their lines off an autocue.
I really liked it. There was a scene from Home Improvement, Cheers, I Love Lucy, Gilligan's Island, Golden Girls and more.
My memory is kind of sketchy, so corrections and additions are welcome! If they bring back an updated Superstar Television I would be very happy. It was a tragedy when they replaced it with Doug.
