New AK logo

I noticed that too. I commented on that, in fact, in the HCOE banner thread. That seems a bit too intentional to not mean something in the long run since it throws off the balance of animals IMHO and could have EASILY been removed or changed out. Here's to hoping, anyway!

It does seem a bit intentional that they left in it. Especially when you look at original AK logos where the animals where on flat ground, and on this one, it is a bit curved. So some touch-up had to be done to that dragon.

What is located directly across the park from EE? Any land cleared there?

Thrawn always gives people on this board harsh responses. I respect everyone's opinion and will not rush to judgement on anyone's "rumors."

If this becomes reality, then the OP could be right. Let's not condemn the OP because no one wants to believe him.

I personally like EE behind the tree of life. I don't feel that it is a new logo that will be used all the time but definitely can see it on t-shirts and other advertising items at least for a while.

Thrawn - just a bit of insight about your comment about having 30 years of it. Experience is great, but that does not make you better than others that don't have that. It depends on how you use it. Also I can't remember if it was you or someone else about respecting posters that have been here longer. They should but that respect is not only one way. Now everyone please get along and discuss disney (even if its just rumor, speculation, news, etc) since that is what myself and others come here for.

Eh...I like the logo with the mountain behind the tree, even if it is temporary.

But hey...Everest has it's own logo, anyway. :animwink:

I just have one question: Why isn't it possible that they would use the "temporary" logo as a new official logo? The addition of EE behind the Tree of Life actually looks nicer, IMO. As far as changing of logos goes, the Earful Tower had been the official landmark for Disney-MGM Studios originally. Then they built the Sorcerer Mickey hat and changed it to that. Does the Hat get the point across that it is a park about the movies? Not really, but since it's one of the first things you notice when you walk in, it makes sense to use it as the icon of the park. EE is one of the first things you notice on the approach to the entrance of AK. Also, when it is completed, it will be the tallest "Mountain" in the State of Florida. I'm not saying remove the Tree of Life as the icon, I'm saying they could very well end up keeping the logo they are using for HCOE if they wanted to. They could also go and come up with a new logo that incorporates both, maybe with animals going from the Tree to the Mountain, or something. Just my thoughts on the matter.

I meant that WDW hasn't changed an icon for a new ride in 30+ years. Sorry if that wasn't clear.

Simple. Because the Epcot "logo" for the HCOE is Soarin. They won't be using that as the new official logo. Therefore, it would be naive to believe that this is the new AK logo.

Theres a big difference. What you are describing is changing the icon because they changed the icon. What the OP is describing is changing the logo to a new ride when the old icon is still the park icon.

Yeah, but they aren't advertising EE on these banners. I mean just look at the new park passes. Each of the three other parks has the new ride on it and it says that ride (Soarin, LMA, Cinderellabration). The park pass with AK on it, however, has this logo on it and it just says Animal Kingdom. Look at this thread for what I'm talking about.

Not sure I understand that logic...

Of course the main reason for this could be that Expedition Everest will not be open during the celebration. It is slated to open in early 2006, and there have been rumors of POSSIBLE soft openings in December 2005 if everything progresses at the current rate. But I don't really know how realiabe or accurate those rumors are so take them with a grain of salt.

I guess Lucky the Dinosaur wasn't considered to be big enough to be part of the HCOE ticket promotion.

In seriousness, the other three parks have their "gifts" on the ticket (I refuse to call it a logo, because it's not really a logo. More like an emblem.). Anyways, it looks like since Lucky the Dinosaur was the AK "gift", there was probably little recognition factor to that so, instead of putting Lucky on the ticket, they came up with a new emblem with EE.

I don't think it's that mysterious and I don't think there was a change in the park icon. It was just a way to promote AK, like the other parks.

Can't advertise a ride that won't be open for almost a year still. Once it gets closer to open they will be advertising it. All they have to do is add a "Expedition Everest" sign over where it says Animal Kingdom.

They changed from the earful tower to the sorceror's hat to make the icon something more recognizable and more centrally located.

There is no possible way that they will change the icon of AK from the Tree of Life into a thrill ride of a mountain, moving from the central object to an object off in the outskirts of the park. Not going to happen.

Exactly right. And emblem is probably a much better term.

Nobody is saying that EE is going to be the new icon of the park. What I (along with some others)am saying is that EE will be added to the current logo (like on the signs). Why can't one park have more than one focal point. Take DMGM for example...I can name 4 objects people could consider the focal point (Hat, GMR, Earful Tower, ToT). In Disneyland, although the castle is the undisputed icon, I have seen shots with both castle and Matterhorn (DL's unofficial logo).

But what some of us are saying is not to replace the Tree of Life with EE on the emblem/logo/image, but instead to enhance said emblem/logo/image with EE. When I look at the standard version, it's okay and all, but when I see the mountain of EE in what would be the distance, with the Tree of Life in the foreground and still being the focus of the image, it just looks better IMO.

Since the celebration is lasting for 18 months, it will be open during the celebration, just not until late in the celebration. ;)

Remember about disney and TEMPORARY, Mickey's Arm and "2000" was temporary. I'm not saying that this is the case for AK's logo though, just an idea.

My two cents: I like the everest logo because it doesn't take away from the Tree. The way the artist put the mountain behind and the color used, doesnt take away from Tree. Well with that said, continue on...
