Never realized how much fun the tomorrowland speedway is

I believe that there is or at least was an outside gas pedal used by the CMs but there has always been a pedal inside the car.

The last time I was on it, which was close to 20 years ago, I remember a CM standing on the side of a cart using that side gas peddle to get a kid to the finish line.

It would be pretty neat if they could turn them into electric cars and maybe have some kind of on board audio track with high tech futuristic space ship sounds!

haha. I like it. :D

I pressed the pedal all the way to the floor, but we crawled all the way around the track, with my husband and younger daughter following us at a snail's pace. Since we had never ridden before, I assumed the cars were supposed to go so slowly. None of us were thrilled with the experience, and my foot hurt from pressing the pedal so hard the whole ride just to move. Did we have a defective car? Should we give this ride another chance?

According to Wikipedia the max speed is 7.5MPH. It might be my imagination, but it seems like the cars get a bit faster as the day wears on. If you were there early, perhaps the engines hadn't warmed up completely?

Also, again it might have been my imagination, but it seems if you let up on the accelerator just a hair, the car speeds up just a tad (well, the engine seems to smooth out a bit without losing speed).

It could be worse. The "Rockin Roadway" at Dollywood is electric. It runs at a constant speed (no gas pedal) and the steering is so loose as to be mostly useless. It's more fun to be a passenger blowing the horn than to be a driver.

Ahhh. That is right. Ok, memory is safe and intact.

That makes sense now. I guess when I was a kid I could reach the pedals but I could reach that. That is too funny.

I hate to throw a monkey wrench into the electric car with speakers plan but the Speedway is notorious for flooding quite badly. Last time I checked electricity, computers and speakers do not mix all that well with water. Even if they were to fix the flooding issue WDW gets an average of 4 feet of rain per year which I am sure would not be good on a couple dozen electric cars that are never under cover.

Ooh, an new thrill element. I like!

Seriously, I always have a good time on the speedway. Even without the kids. :lookaroun

My kids all loved it untill they could drive, now its only Turd who still goes on it every trip. Thing is its one of the few things that puts a smile on the E-mo face.

I dont like that it stinks, and despite not being a tree hugger still think it could be a bit more new technology and green.
Dear Gawd, Sak....does this mean you've reproduced?!?!

The car speeds do vary a bit. I rode a few years ago and got behind my DW in a car that was going much faster than hers and I spent the ride bumping her car. The CM's thought it was funny, she did not.
