Never had a Mary Poppins attraction?

Is Mary Poppins yet another Disney Classic that isn't fresh or edgy enough for modern Disney? Have they ever had a Mary Poppins-themed attraction at Magic Kingdom? I know my kids love this movie, and if there were actually a decent themed-attraction we would be waiting hours in line for it.

I believe that there was originally supposed to be a Mary Poppins dark ride in Fantasyland in which you would ride in upside down umbrellas, somthing similar to Peter Pan. I think there was also supposed to be a Sleeping Beauty dark ride. Instead, we got clones of the Disneyland rides.

Mary Poppins should have its own themed attraction I feel in all the parks.
It may not be "fresh or edgy enough for modern Disney" as it was earlier stated but any movie that wins that many awards and is touched that much by Walt Disney himself needs to be honored with its own attraction.
I know there is one scene in the Great Movie ride with mary Poppins in it but that is no where nearly enough tribute to this great classic. There is some meorabilia regarding this movie inthe great movie ride (the horse) and also in one mans dream (outfit) but that is it.
any ideas on what would be a good themed ride to honor this movie?

on additional note.
I think that they should get Walt's voice to do a preshow area of the attraction. I think this is very do-able with todays technology. The spots that would not be able to be spoken by walt can be filled in by CG voice over. I know this can be done because I have done it myself with my figment site to have "fig" do the opening lines as well as Dream Finder do the intro to the original attraction tribute.
and I know I did forget that Mary poppins is also in the stars cars and motorcars parade at MGM.

How about something in England over at Epcot? Related to the Chimney Scene.

I agree! A Mary Poppins attraction would be perfect in the UK Pavillion! The film itself is regaining popularity with the opening of the stage musical here in London. The show is getting rave reviews, which proves there's still a demand from today's audience.

It could be a dark ride with overlaid animation, as in the film. Guests would wear 3D glasses like in Spiderman at IOA. I'm sure Disney could find some willing British companies to invest in the attraction, and there's plenty of land behind the pavillion. Plus a new ride which is both hi-tec and traditionally Disney would be such a popular draw to Epcot...

Here is another vote for Mary Poppins.

My kids (4 and 2) LOVE this movie. Just ask my 4 year old and he will give you the "Step in Time" choreography he made up himself. And my 2 year old walks around singing "Spoonful of Sugar". Beyond Sweet.

We are going in June and will do the Mary Poppins meal at 1900 Park. But if my 4 year old could meet "Bert" he would never stop grinning.

Here's hoping for more classics.

Great idea to put it in Epcot some will argue an attraction should go In Disney studios or even in Magic Kingdom but England would be a great place for it too. Maybe this could be put in fantaqy land in the 20k area besides the dual ater attraction I suggested earlier

There was plans for a Mary Poppins Attraction, called "A Jolly Holiday with Mary Poppins". The attraction was to have guest ride "merry-go-round" horses and tour different scenes from the movie. It never got the green-light. I read about this project in an issue of Disney Magazine

Well, maybe the Imagineers need to go back to the drawing board. If I were to tell my kids they could watch one movie and I listed off all the Disney movies, old and new, they would choose Mary Poppins every time. There is plenty of magic and fantasy in that movie that they could translate to an attraction. But especially the theme of busy parents spending time with their kids.

Meeting Bert

If I recall correctly, when I went to a character breakfast at 1900 Park Fare, I was able to meet Eeyore, Alice, Mary Poppins, Bert and Mr. Penguin....so if any kids out there are thrilled with Bert, the will likely be able to see him at 1900 Park Fare.

I would like to see a dark ride based on the movie. I do however question its appeal with todays generations. Even my generation ( 28yrs old ) really didnt watch that movie all that much. Not saying its a bad movie becuase I love it myself.

Well, I never saw it until I was an adult and I'm 34. Today's kids can own all these movies and see them whenever they want. The only Disney movies I saw as a kid were the ones shown on Sunday night on the Wonderful World of Disney. And those always seemed to be cartoon medleys or Herbie movies, hardly ever the classics.

In fact I still have never seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Her personal appearances at character meals at the Grand Floridian, combined with the Mary Poppins scene in the Great Movie Ride are enough for me.

Even so, it was and is an important movie in Disney history and provided needed cash for the building of Disney attractions. It was so important that there was a company within the Disney umbrella named MAPO (for Mary Poppins). This was the company that provides the mechanical /electrical engineering functions of Imagineering, and designed the people mover, now known as the Tomorrowland Transit Authority.

I thought about this myself. I'm 20, and Mary Poppins always had good songs (my favorite used to be "Jolly Holiday"), but I never really got into the movie. Nevertheless, I got the movie for my birthday a couple of weeks ago and after seeing the bonus features and really absorbing it all, I have now come to appreciate this movie very much. As a kid, you really don't get something like the meaning of "Feed the Birds"...I always found the song boring. Now, after seeing how much it meant to Walt and listening to it a few times, it has become my favorite song in the movie. It's one of those movies that if you didn't love it as a child, you should give it another chance as an adult. There are those kids, however, that the movie will click the first time. Not me, it took watching it as an adult to finally get it.

So yeah, I'm all for a Mary Poppins attraction :D.
