Man, this is our first trip to Disney in August, and it certainly did not cross my mind that we would be right in the middle of freaking hurricane season. At first, Hurricane Alex had me worried; however, it moved away from the Florida area. Now, here comes what may become Hurricane Bonnie. Early estimates expect South Florida to be affected. Man oh man, should I expect to see the worst of the worst weather wise next week?

If it rains try and make the most of it. I know for some reason guest just can't get wet...you would think the wizard of oz was true the way some people run. But when I am at the park and its raining I try and make the most of it. Animal Kingdom is my fav park to go to when it rains...I think it make the park better.

I live on the coast of North Carolina. We had Hurricane Alex hit yesterday. It was awful. It sprinkled for about 10 minutes, there was a slight breeze, and it was sunny the rest of the day LOL!!

But I live a little bit south of Cape Hatteras so we just barely missed it. They got the worst of it.

I've lived on the North Carolina coast for 5 years now and I still have not seen a hurricane! When the huge one came through last September I was in NY visiting family - go figure.

It will be ok. I was in Orlando during Andrew in 1992 and it was crazy, but we survived. It might be a little scary, but don't let it ruin your trip or the excitement before you trip! It will be fine!

Weatherchannel.com shows no more than 40% chance of rain on any day in the next 10. I think we who are going this upcoming week will be fine!

The Hurricane season is from June to Nov. But, I would not worry, WDW is smack dab in the middle of the state. Lots of land to buffer the problems caused by a hurricane or storm. We flew down durning Floyd 1999 and in reality got it worse in CT than they did in FL. All WDW got was some rain and wind at night.

Also, you are not in South FL, you will be in central FL.

We will be there next week also. I'm not too worried about it. We always go in August and some years we've been rained on and some years not. Last year a tropical wave moved across central Florida. We were at Epcot that day and although it was windy all day, the rain was on and off. Just bring your rain panchos and you'll be prepared. Enjoy your trip!

The storms are something to keep an eye on, but don't let it worry you out of sleep! I've lived on the coast of NC for several years, now I'm down near the mouse... Hurricane's come and go, some are bad, some cause wind and rain.

I wouldn't really start to be concerned until your cancelation deadline is nearing. Then, if there's a storm and it looks like it could affect Florida, you can get your money back... the downside, the storm could turn away and it could still be hot and sunny here.

It's just one of those things you have to wait and see on! Don't worry! It will all work out!

Even if a hurrican were to hit, the effects in Central Florida would rarely last over 24 hours. I'm not referring to damage caused by the storm, I'm referring to the storm itself.

As Hurricane Alex leaves the US, it leaves trails. I was in WDW Friday night through last night and the storms weren't bad at all. We had the typcial rainstorm on Sunday and a little yesterday but that's it. I don't think we got much of the storm but mainly because it had blown north already and we were just getting the tail end. Just keep an eye on the weather and call the weather number from the room phone or watch the Weather Channel!

I wouldn't worry...not yet anyway...if anything does form from this tropical disturbance in Atlantic...it will have to pass through the mountainous regions of Cuba, Haiti/Dominican Rep and maybe even Puerto Rico...anything could be weakened...besides with the 'cold fronts' coming down so early in the year and so far down...its bound to get caught up and sent up north, away from the eastern coast line.

I would expect a little rain and wind if anything, not an expert or anything though...

Good thing about rain though...it scares away park guests...don't know why...I find the parks less crowded in the rain...

I agree with se8472, AK is great in the rain....

Yeah I will be down there next week as well....someone mentioned about 40% chance in the next 10 days, that pretty much means it will rain EVERY day haha. Not too excited about rain everyday but what's a Disney trip without getting totally soaked while running across World Showcase :sohappy: :sohappy:

I would not worry either. We flew down to WDW in 1994 and started our decent through the eye of Hurricane Gordon. It was a bumpy one through wind and rain. That was the worst part of the trip because when we arrived in Orlando, it was absolutely beautiful staying that way for the entire week we were at WDW. It was as if all the bad weather purposely stayed away from it. I am headed to WDW in September taking basically the same path as you will be on your way from Baton Rouge. I know I will be fine when I get to WDW, but the traveling weather may not be so great. We have to take our chances and plan accordingly because I know the light crowds will be worth it.

We have done WDW in the rain many times but we have done the hurricane watch thing too because of flights being canceled. If you are driving I would not give it a second thought. The rain makes the marks less crowded and you can see more. If swiming is your thing, that is a different story.

I thought Alex was just a tropical storm, not a full-blown hurricane.

Anyhow, I'm going to Epcot one day next week, but I'm checking the weather forecast every day as it changes daily. Right now it's showing it's going to be nice and sunny on Sunday (my birthday!) and then again next Friday. Most days show isolated storms with a 30% chance of rain. That can mean it'll actually rain or it'll be sunny.

About a month ago, I went to Downtown Disney to meet a couple friends who were on vacation. The weather forecast the night before said it was supposed to start raining around noon and rain the rest of the day. We didn't see a single drop. It was sunny and clear all day.

You never know what the weather down here is going to do until it happens. And then it usually does a complete 360º after 15-20 minutes when something does happen. I swear our state slogan should be "Welcome to Florida! Don't like the weather? Wait 15 minutes!"

For what it's worth. A few years back, my wife and I were at WDW and the weather reports called for a major storm. May have even been a hurricane, I can't remember exactly. What I do remember is preparing for bad weather at the park yet we had one of the most perfect days we have even had there. Blue skies, white fluffy clouds and a very light breeze. Simply a perfect day. When we got back to our room, we watched the local Orlando news as they show portions of the city dealing with serious floods in the aftermath of the days storm. We also had a bunch of phone messages from our families back home who had heard of the bad weather. We kind of chuckled when we told them what a beautiful day we had. It was rather strange. The moral of the story, just because it's happening outside of the front gates does not mean it's going to happen inside the front gates. No worries... :animwink:

This is so true. In Florida you can drive down the highway and watch the cars on teh other side of the highway getting poured on and you have clear skys. It is strange...

The weather always said about 40% for us during our stay but didn't always happen. Sometimes we would have rain for like 5 minutes others it would be a nice mist for about 30 minutes. On Saturday, we stayed perfectly dry at MK while at MGM others got DRENCHED from a downpour. It's all basically hit or miss while there. When they say scattered, they aren't joking. I wouldn't worry about the storms at all.
