Nervous 'bout Braces

I twice had them in the past, but they were the type I could pop in and out. I recall it took an hour or two for my mouth to get used to them and stop drooling. But other than that they were fine.

I had braces a few years ago. They were not that bad after you get used to them. The only thing I was nervous about was the check ups with the orthodontist. Sometimes I forgot I had braces on.

Thanks, even though I'm getting the more "well-known" type of braces, your words are reassuring. :D

I had 'em. They're not as scary as they look- and the brackets are smaller now than the ones I had!

Your mouth will be sore at first, and then after each adjustment, but it's not that bad. Pudding, mashed potatoes, and ice cream will get you through the tough days!

I had the big, nasty, old fashioned ones with metal bands around each tooth when I was about 14. The one's they're doing now seem much better.

It's a little uncomfortable having all that metal in your mouth, but you get used to it after a few days, so try to relax.

My son is 11 and he just got them. That made me more nervous than I was when I got mine, but he's doing great with them.

Oh, and nobody actually pays attention to the what you're not supposed to eat after about the second week, but don't tell your orthodondist (or my son) I told you that.:zipit:

I'm sure no one does, but I'm one of those "Better Safe Than Sorry" persons. :lookaroun

And my mom knows about the gummies, and she will see to it that I don't have any. She doesn't want to pay for broken brackets.

Had them back in Highschool. They weren't so bad. Had to give up Jolly Ranchers, Doritos, and Skoal. Made it interesting for my mouthpiece in Football.

Good Luck.

And we very often see the results of such behavior, especially when paired with less brushing and flossing than is recommended

Firedancer- if you're not able to brush/floss at lunchtime, consider carrying a pack of sugarless gum with you. It's better than nothing.

I've had teeth pulled before, and getting teeth pulled usually doesn't hurt, 'cause they give you a anthstetic shot. It hurts a little afterward. But you can't eat or drink for at least an hour. I don't know much about getting wisdom teeth pulled though. But I'm sure I can expect it when I have my braces on. I've been told that some of my teeth will have to be sacrificed.

I have braces, yet I still manage to eat some snacks, like Doritos, Starburst and Twizzlers. It may hurt a little the first day, but you get used to them.

Wow, a Simpsons quote! Cool! I'm sure I'm going to hear that over and over again when I visit my aunt next week. She's a Simpson fanatic.

Had to give up the Doritos because they would bend the wires when chomped on. I remember the fun of shooting somebody with a rubberband everytime I yawned. . .
