Well I'm not sure where to start looking for help on how to go about selling my paintings so I thought I'd start here and see if anyone has any idea.

I know some people use ebay and are selling what are in my eyes peices of crap fro upwards of 200 bucks. So I thought Id give it a shot. However Id rather not use ebay. Does anyone have any idea how I go about getting started? I mean do I just start calling random galleries or what? I dunno I'm lost lol.

HEEEELP! :D

You need to call galleries if you want someone else to sell your work, but be careful. Galleries usually like to buy work from "respected" artists, so you need to get your feet in the door. The best way to do that is to find out about art shows in your area and get a booth there and sell your art. Sell it cheap enough that people will buy it, and that way, people will talk about your work through word of mouth, etc. When you have entered enough shows, then try the galleries. Directors of galleries usually go to art shows, and often find talent there. Hopefully this helps!

I don't know if this is an option for you, but locally, many restaurants display local artists, with prices and a contact number.

getting your paintings into galleries is harder than you might think. firstly do some research and find out if any galleries in your area show work similar to yours. then maybe go to a couple of art openings there and start meeting people. you may be able to get one of the people you've met to come see your work at your studio. they may or may not like it. if they like it and know the gallery owner, they may mention to them that, they too should go see your work. just taking slides, photos or the work itself to a gallery owner almost never works. if you even intend to approach a gallerist, they will want to see a resume, that would include where you went to art school, and where you have already exhibited, also any publications you've been in. also galleries usually will split the sale 50% / 50% with you .there are sometimes alternative art spaces in cities that are more open to showing artists without an exhibition history.

hope this helps

Along the same lines as what The Mom said, check the local stores (particularly in Malls) that specialize in frames and framing. Often they will display and sell local artists work with a charge to the buyer (of course) for the proper frame.

I have a cousin who is AWESOMe and is a graphic artist and she has her own studio.

If you don't like abstract just nod and say "neat." ;) :p

And if you know at all what you're talking about please feel free to crit. :)

*nods head* neat-o!!

No, seriously, I haven't a clue about art... or what makes good art different from bad art, BUT, I do like that painting, for what it's worth! I love the colors... I could never be an art critic, I know. They'd be rambling on about lines, and contrast, and emotion, blah, blah blah. I like it. So there. :p

Neat!! Does it come in more "earthy" colors?

I´m kidding you Josh, I have no clue about pop art, but something with leaves and dry flowers in it, would be something I would buy if it comes in softer colors. :animwink:

I would post them in Ebay to start with and then move on to street markets, expos and then galleries.

Good luck!! :sohappy:

I `m sorry but I don`t like abstract my friend!:D
Reminds me of the lady that submitted her 2 year old daughters finger painting to a gallery and got $5,000.00 for it!

Accrylic on stretched canvas. I've used guache....it's horrible stuff. Plus it's expensive as hell.
