My family will be staying at the Poy for 10 days in April. Any suggestions on what to do at the resort? I heard something about a water palyground? We have 3 kids 6,4 and an infant.

Just so everyone knows...

Poly is a slang term in the Polynesian language. It is some kind of insult in the language.

:veryconfu Please clarify! I know some Polynesians, and none ever mentioned it...but of course, there are many islands, with many languages...hence the name Poly= many Which language are you referring to? Or is this another case of someone taking exception to a name introduced from the outside, and then being used in an insulting way...Indian for Native American, for example. I'm not saying they don't have a right to take umbrage, just that it wasn't in their language originally.

On WDWig.com under the Polynesian's FAQ it says that Poly is not a good term to use because it is an insult.

Here is what is says...

Can I just call it the Poly for short?

You shouldn't. In the Polynesian islands, the term "Poly" is actually a racial slur, and considered offensive to many people.

They said something to all of us CP's going through traditions. I also took a hospitality management course. In it we talked about gestures and other words and phrases that are offensive to some but not to others. We had a book (I think it was called Gestures...???). In the book, it said something about using poly.

Thank you for the clarification. So it isn't as if the word sounds the same as a Polynesian word for , say, genitals, but is offensive because it is (allegedly) used to identify a certain group of people in a demeaning way? Kind of like people calling my daughter preppie? ;) Or referring to me as a soccer mom? ;)
