A friend and I want to go on a drive. We have about a week off from work and live in Upstate NY. So we are thinking of going south to VA Beach (12 hr drive) or could go to Myrtle Beach, SC (for another 2 hours) or just Canada for about 4-5 hours (not sure where to go here, though) or going to the Cape in New Jersey, another 4-5 hour drive... So which if any of these would you pick and why? Thanks for any info.

Two days drive there [one if you split the driving between you], two days back!

Myrtle Beach is tacky -- wax museums, miniature golf and such. I'd do Canada. Niagra Falls, Toronto, Montreal. I took the trip there from Chicago when I was a lad and remembered Montreal as being a beautiful city with lots o' culture and stuff. I think Montreal may have a wax museum, too, but it's a highbrow wax museum. :)

^Niagara Falls' Clifton Hill tourist area could probably beat whatever tackiness Myrtle Beach throws at it in a single blow.

Though I do actually like it...

The above opinion made me realize: Not very many people go to a great tourist attraction they have so close to them. :p

As Dan mentioned, "not very many people go to a great tourist attraction they have so close to them." How much of New York State have you toured threw? There are a lot of great places to go (and not just tourist traps).

I've done my share of Lake Placid, Thousand Islands, Buffalo and Lake George, not sure what that qualifies for. But thanks for the website. I'll give it a looksie.
