Need an Idea

We have an arrival day tradition to go to Chef Mickey's for dinner then walk over and catch the parade and wishes at Magic Kingdom. However, the only CM ressie I could get was for 9:15 and Spectro starts 8 PM. I would do Spectro another night, but it's our only chance.

We do CM because it sets the best tone for the start of the trip. It's so "Disney" and the kids get a taste of the characters. ADRs (Darn free dining!) are hard to come by. I have been trying multiple times a day to get something earlier since the 90 day mark. I'm beginning to think it's going to be a no-go since we have long passed the 45 day mark (was hoping for cancellations).

Does anyone have any other ideas for dinner that could get the same reaction and still give us time for Spectro?

The problem is I have a 3 year old who might not make it through dinner if we wait that late and a 5 year old who might not be able to wait that late for dinner, KIWM? But, if I can't think of anything else, we might just give it a go!

What about Crystal Palace in MK? It is Winnie the Pooh characters, but still gives you the same feeling as CM. This way you will already be in the park for the parade/fireworks.

If either of your children are girls you could try 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian. Dinner is w/ Cinderella, Prince Charming, Step Mother & Step Sisters.

Typo, sorry. KWIM: Know What I mean?

All boys, so definitely NO PRINCESSES! They'd have my head on a silver platter--all three of them. That's part of the problem; WDW is a little overly geared towards girls.

My 8 year old, very soon to be 9, would kill me if we did Pooh. So would probably my 5 year old, very soon to be 6. Maybe it's boys, but they outgrow the pooh characters by the time they start K. My little one would love it though. It is a viable idea though; they may let go of some of their "I'm too cool for that" for Disney.

LOL- I guess Crystal Palace is better for girls. Disney should come up with a pirate character dinner- so the older boys would enjoy it :animwink:

I am having the same problem as you. It has been our tradition to go to Chef Mickey's on the night we check in but not this year. The only thing we have been able to get was Crystal Palace. We tried it years ago and did not like it but maybe it will be better this time.

I can not think of anything else either that would fit in for you. Keep trying to get CM and tell the person taking the reservation that this has been a tradtion for your family and see if she can get you something! Good Luck!

You can't break tradition!!! :p Just teasing, you could always start a new one.

LOL, good luck I wish I had some advice for you. I can only think of the Crystal Palace, but I don't think it's the same as CM's!

I thought O'hana's only had characters at breakfast!?! Did they add them for dinner? If they did and I somehow missed it, I'm going to kick myself!! That was an option, but at the time I thought I'd get something earlier for CM around the 45 day mark, but that didn't happen. THAT would work just as well since Mickey is there too.

I agree that a boy themed dinner would be awesome (Peter Pan, Hercules, Alladin, Buzz and Woody) my boys would love it. THey do however really like Crystal Palace, even my 7 year old.

Hmmm....maybe it is the breakfast I am thinking about. I have done deluxe dining 2 years in a row and have eaten at so many places that maybe I am getting confused. Sorry if I am not correct.

Off to do some research

We have been doing Spirit of Aloha for our first night...but it does not have any characters.
But since it is at the Poly...it's pretty close.

In the park maybe Liberty Tree?
Not sure if they have any Characters either. We did lunch there and they did not.

Unfortunately, they cut the characters from Liberty Tree Tavern. There is nothing geared towards boys *at* MK anymore. And that one was actually gender neutral. Rumor is/was that they were supposed to be adding characters back, but the big question has become WHEN? My guess is *if* they do, at the earliest it would be 2010.

I don't know...

I have gotten a few good ideas, and THANK YOU!! I'll keep trying for a cancellation--hey, I have unlimited long distance! And if that doesn't pan out, which is likely, I'll try and go with one of those. Although, I'm still open to any other ideas.
