Nearly ever ride closed this morning at MK

Park-wide technical difficulties have kept nearly every ride at MK this morning from being open. They are giving away fast passes...to Tom Sawyer Island. Winnie the Pooh and the Treehouse are open however. Bet there will be a long line at Guest Service!

Fun....
Why not simply let anyone without a Park Hopper park hop if they started at the MK today?

Allow 2nd entry, or better yet, just don't care at all. Let turnstyle cast members know that as long as the ticket was valid for the day and it was used to enter MK, it's good for any of the 4 parks for the remainder of the day...

its because there was a power failure to one of the air compressers that power ALOT of the safety systems, (such as the auto gates that let you board rides like sm) effectls, (like the cannonballs landing in the water on potc) things like that. it was reported in the sentinal this morning. check www.thedailydisney.com

Seriously. Could turn ugly incredibly fast if it doesnt get repaired quickly...

Already Fixed.. and there was no fire ... Apparently a main BUS line overheated, and tripped safety systems (breakers) for shutdown...

The issue has been addressed, and the systems are now back online.. In fact, power was restored relatively quickly, but system pressurization takes time.... Normal maintenance for this system is generally planned FAR in advance, because of the re-pressurization time.. BTW, the air pressure is also used for AVAC trash collection system as well.

Wow, they run all of that off of ONE compressor.

Do they have air lines all over the park? I would have thought that each attraction that has an air requirement had it's own system.

They must have air pipe and telemetry (pressure and flow transducers) all over the place to ensure that a single system breach does not bring the whole system down.

I too am astonished that all of those rides are dependent on a single system/point of failure. Not that is hasn't worked great over the years but is sure sounds like a bad design decision to me. And I really don't see how it could be that much cheaper in the long run either.

These are probably the same systems since being installed in the 70's.
Kind of like the power co I work for, Alot of our substations are outdated
to the 50's era and what not. They run until they fail and at that point
its upgraded. Its a bad design in todays world, yes, but wasnt in the 70's, so dont fix it till it breaks. Hence what they did today at MK

This happened to Epcot last year. Every ride was down except for Spaceship Earth.

I wonder why only Pooh was open? Does it have its own system? Treehouse was obviously open because it's just a walkthrough.

They'll probably be reviewing that now...

The compressors are newer than the 70's. Studios uses seperate ones. Rock n Roller coaster has a backup and a portable for the rest of the park in emergency.

Pooh uses electrical servo safety gates (air gates) as well as animations (the figures in pooh are not AA's by definition)

independent systems....

Now,the reason why a central system was built? well.. Air compressors (even muffled) are noisy when they pressurize.. wouldn't make for a very good guest experience to hear the rattle all the time from each attraction..... which this one does CONSTANTLY..... just a bigger version of what you use in your garage at home, really....

They could put one system for each ride down in the Utilidoors.

Pooh was also closed at first. However it was one of the first attractions to open. The only attractions in the park that are not connected to the park air system are the treehouse, riverboat, wdw railroad and rafts.

The WDW Railroad was also affected? How? I would have thought it would have been one of the few attractions operating.

You are correct. I thought I had typed that as well. The WDW railroad does not utilize park air and was open this morning. However the animation (Indian Village) does use park air and was thus inop.
