Nasty Accident in Parking Lot at Magic Kingdom

I think it's moreso the vehicles than their speed in the parking lot - though I could definately be wrong.

My sister got into an accident with her Firebird years ago and she essentially T-boned an SUV and it rolled up and onto her car before landing upside down in a grassy area. Neither driver was going fast, and it wasn't her fault or the other driver's because someone has stolen both of the stop signs from the intersections and the bushes made the corners blind.

Note to stupid people: Don't steal stop signs!

Thankfully no one was seriously hurt.

I can't stand driving in parking lots. It doesn't matter if it is WDW, Cedar Point, K-Mart, or Burger King. I normally park a few spaces beyond all of the other vehicles. I have never been able to understand why people have to speed and jam in front of others to get a parking spot right by the entrance. After all walking is excercise.

Even when we drive to WDW the vehilcle stays at the hotel and we use the WDW Transportation system - I would rather wait 15 minutes for a bus than deal with the traffic.

At WDW people are on vacation - no need to rush just relax and enjoy. I hope everyone involved is OK.

I can just imagine it...

"The parking lot kills people! Shut it down now! I almost died in there!" :animwink:

The next thing you'll see is a "Friends of WDW parking lot" club springing up....

The Scion xB is an extremely unstable car. It doesn't surprise me that it may have flipped.
no it's not. It's tiny and low to the ground.

It's a small sedan with a lightweight box for sheetmetal.

The Scion xB looks like a Cardboard Box on wheels, no wonder it flipped over. I think a lite breeze would flip it over.

Any car driven like a racecar that isn't meant to be driven like that will react justly. The Scion xB is probably the best econobox right now.

I also park beyond and/or away from other cars in parking lots. As for driving in them, I find I have to be more vigilant than on the roads. People (none of you guys, of course) are stupid, careless, and selfish. That's the way of the world these days.

I actually like parking lots its good organization, unless you screw it up by causing an accident. But I agree when we go anywhere too, we try to place it back awhile its too crazy upfront with all the other cars and people. Oh an another thing if it was a Dodge or a Jeep the accedent prolly wouldnt have been bad.

I agree its an econobox but it is still prone to tipping, I know you are a car guy too and are much more into the import scene but with the wheelbase being relatively short and a having a tall roof = the stability of a jeep.Which is not good. I bet the 2 of us could rock one onto its side after a few pints.:D

I'll respectfully disagree after having one at my disposal for 10 days. It's not as stable as say, the xA or the Echo which it's based on, but it won't flip like an SUV. The body control on that box is nothing short of amazing given its dimensions.

I have seen numerous accidents and it does not take much speed to cause serious damage. From the sound of the accident scene, the scion could have been going as slow as 35-40mph and struck in the rear half by another car and it is very possible it would flip. I have only observed a flipped vehicle at around 40mph but it could happen at a slower speed. On a side note you can figure out the speed of both cars prior to the accident by measuring distance of skid, impact crush on vehicles etc.
On the other question about a wrecker, after fire and ems are on scene dealing with injuries(they usually arrive the same time as police) a wrecker is called to clear the roadway of inoperable vehicles which can take as long as 40 minutes to arrive after calling.

Couldn't a car like the scion strike a low profile vehicle on one side and essentially use that car as a ramp to flip over?

Exactly. The probability of flipping an SUV is higher than with the xB.

Perhaps a tire blew? And one thing led to another.
