I don't think I'm the only one, but how about building the city where a levee is not needed? Just seems so practical!
I agree 100%. Mother nature wants New Orleans to be underwater I think we should respect her wishes. Under todays current building and EPA codes New Orleans could not be legally built. And if we diverted all the efforts and funds from R&D projects to more politically correct projects we would still be living in the stone age. I for one am ecstatic to here that NASA is going back to the moon. Hopefully in my life time we will have men and women on Mars.

But there are no cities on the moon below sea level. :p Hopefully when they build a city on the moon, it won't be at the bottom of a crater.

I hate to be off topic, but is there any chance we can talk about, y'know, going to the moon? :p

UGH... nothing like taking a GIANT step backwards to Apollo style capsules. :hammer:

Am I the only one that dislikes this "new" craft? Where are our cool futristic space ships at? :veryconfu

As was pointed out in one article I read that posed that same question, the "physics" of reentry hasn't changed over the past 40 years so the design can't really change. I don't think most of the "futuristic designs" were really based on science as much as imagination.

But, you have a good point. I think more people would be energized and eager for the return to the moon if the designs were more "Star Trek - like" than what they have shown!

yeah *raises hand* That would be me... :o

I am all for the Star-Trek-esq space vehicles. And... no need for re-entry.. we could build them in space... and store them in Orbit.. you know... space dock. :lookaroun

Yes, but there are much bigger problems like no atmosphere. This means that rocks can hit you without burning up first.

The moon has an atmosphere, it's just not nearly as dense as that of Earth.

From NASA's numbers the atmosphere on the moon is about 1 trillionth the pressure of the Earths. It is kind of like saying that a planet the size of earth with one drop of water on in has water. While technically true the quantity is not enough to do anything with. The moons atmosphere would do nothing to stop any type of meteorite no matter how small. The atmosphere is not even dense enough to stop ions from solar winds.

I heard about this yesterday! How exciting! They're calling it Apollo on steroids!

EXTRA! EXTRA!

Congress Begin Premilanary Hearings for Apollo Steiroid Scandle

NASA: "We never took steroids. Period."
