Nara Dreamland was a park that opened up in Japan in 1961 and was a cheap knockoff of Disneyland. It closed in 2006. If you want to get an idea what Disneyland or the Magic Kingdom would look like if they had failed here is a link to pictures of Nara Dreamland taken recently.

Thanks for sharing!! I've seen pictures (and even video) of Nara Dreamland before (including on this site), but this is the first time I've seen recent pictures of what the park looks like now. Very eerie. That would be cool to be able to go around and explore. Did you take these pictures yourself? If so, how did you get in to take them? I have pics of River Country that I should post. They were taken a few years back, but still long after the park had been closed already, so very eerie.

I found the link to the blog on another site that deals with themeparks. I figured I would share the link so other people could see it.

Abandoned amusement parks scare me. Could you imagine walking around that place at night. I think that would be worse than a cemetery.

Creepy and compelling! Thanks for sharing that!

It's amazing how eerily similar many of those building designs are to Disneys.

I am reminded of the" old abandoned Old Abandoned Amusement Park" mentioned in Phineus and Ferb.

It was like looking at some post-apocolyptic world or something. Very eerie and unsettling to look at. It must not have closed too long ago as I saw Thomas the Tank engine in the arcade. I would not mind picking up some of the merry-go-round horeses for nostagia. It is amazing they did not liquidate any of the stuff. It looks like they just walked away from everything.

...and what exactly went on in the "screw coaster" que lines!?

I totally agree, it looks like they just evacuated one day and never went back,

i'm amazed by the lack of vandalism and mindless destruction that the youth of today cause. they should film some sort of horror film there it would be the perfect location

i LOVE creepy things and am extremely fascinated by this entire park! how eerie is it in the link for when the park was open, that they were the only people there?! AWESOME! no matter how creepy... oh an boo for trying to steal Disney ideas... but yay for creepiness!
