Mystery Project at Epcot

I think the problems with Epcot aren't as bad as the problems in Hollywood Studios. They can go at Epcot enhancements in a piecemeal approach with Band Aid solutions provided that they're real band aids and not bargain basement solutions. A Ratatouille clone would not be a bargain basement option.

I agree totally with this. Epcot is still a full day/multi-day park for a lot of folks. There's actually a decent number of rides plus a bunch of shows and a lot of streetmosphere. And the WS pavilions (and stuff like Innoventions/Seabase Alpha/the SSE and Space postshows, etc.) can occupy a decent amount of time if you want to just hang in the park and see the sites. And there's obvious a lot of shopping and dining. Epcot is still solidly the #2 attended park in WDW -- and I think #3 in America -- so it still draws a lot of guests.

I am totally in favor in adding new rides and upgrading some of the weaker offerings and improving the theme in FW. I think those are needed things. But there's far less that is urgent with Epcot than with DAK and DHS. If I were TDO, I would absolutely focus more money and projects on fixing/improving DAK/DHS and would be fine with more piecemeal/smaller scale projects at Epcot. Adding Ratatoulle and a new Soarin' video, plus maybe something like updating Imagination isn't terrible for a short term plan for Epcot.

The only thing hilarious is the situation that made everyone desperate for new attractions. Not a single new ride has been added to the world showcase since 1988. That to me is hilarious.

Yeah, I find it hilarious when people say that WS doesn't need new rides or that a new pavilion/country would be more important or that FW needs all the attention. I personally think that a new ride on the western half of the WS is massively overdue. Much as I'd like to see an Imagination or Energy re-do or WoL re-opened, I don't see how people are content with only a couple of measly films on the west side of the WS. I'd favor a non-IP ride (like the Mt Fuji idea for Japan) than Ratatoulle, but like that doing something in the WS is being considered.

Other than a few new restaurants and a clumsy reworking of El Rio del Tiempo and the Canada and China films, World Showcase has been ignored for decades when it comes to attractions. Sad, but true.

I personally can't justify going to Epcot until:

-Wonders of Life pavilion is replaced with a new pavilion (if they were to repair the WoL and just reopen it that would be ok to but its not going to happen)
-Universe of Energy has Ellen removed
-Journey into Imagination is redone properly back to being a WOW dark ride with Dreamfinder and non-obnoxious Figment. Open up Imageworks upstairs again.
-World Showcase either gets a new pavilion or new ride

I have a wish list of other things that I would like to see done that aren't going to happen:
-Mission Space is replaced with an actual good ride/pavillion
-Test Track is replaced with an actual good ride/pavillion
-Innoventions/Communicore gets retooled and window covers are removed so light can enter again
-Totally redo ending of Spaceship Earth with actual stuff to see on the descent, better narration, better score, ideally remove touch screen or come up with better use for them.
-Bring back street buses to shuttle people around World Showcase
-Remove character tie-ins from rides (Nemo, 3 Cabelleros)

If you're not going to EPCOT to drink/eat/shop you're probably going for the wrong reasons.
Disney seems to think so, at any rate.
I like some of the attractions there, but they're really just diversions to fill the time between eating.

That is not the ethos of the park.

This thread is hilarious. The desperation for new things and willingness to believe the smallest hint of an addition is getting out of control.
I think Disney smells the desperation and is using it to their advantage. They have magically spun 7DMT into more than it is and the result is people soiling themselves in anticipation. I think when the next ACTUAL big attraction is announced/started, it will be like being in love, we will just know.

Until then, they will keep playing the shell game with announcements and value engineered improvements while stock prices of adult diaper companies soar as surges of grown men and woman hoard the product in an attempt to control their "WDW rumor" induced uncontrolled urination.

disclaimer: I have nothing against 7dmt and please don't site Avatar as "the one"

Is it? Looking at the mission statements from a 1990 guide map, seems like thats was the focus.

epcot912.jpg

uh Epcot didn't open in 1990. Might as well scan a park map from last year while you are at it.

Also nowhere does that say going to Epcot is primarily to "eat/shop/drink".

I would argue that the early 90's was the height of EPCOT Center as it was envisioned before the changes in 94. I see "art/culture/cuisine" as in line with this.

So when is the last time you were in Epcot? You've not visited since 1999 or earlier? (When JII was fudged up...)

PS - I agree in theory with everything on your wish list, except the bus, it would not be safe anymore on a busy day (any F&W weekend), what with a dozen bottlenecks they created in WS. They would have to demo Spice Road, merch kiosks, and a few other "speedbumps" to have a wide enough path... though I do miss the double decker.
