My wifes one ( or two) MINOR Complaint(s)

1. RE: newspaper - willing to read it but not to retrieve it from elevator lobby. I know it isn't you, but it sounds contradictory to complain about walking for a newspaper but being in a place that requires alot of walking to tour the parks.

How true - the complaint actually seems to be I don't want to walk 22 steps for a newspaper and 4 steps from the shelter that is provided to the bus stop, yet I am on my way to spend 8 hours walking around a park. :veryconfu

I realize the OP did say these were minor complaints but for me it's just not worth a complaint at all...but everybody is different, I guess.

I agree that, at least at the Deluxe Resorts, the newspapers should be delivered to the rooms of guests who want them. Yes, it is easier for Disney to have people go to the elevator, but doing what is easiest for the staff is not what earns and maintains a reputation for having the best service.

They also have to weigh the cost of delivering newspapers with what it really gets them in return. I don't think it gets them much. I've never heard anyone excited to stay at a resort because they deliver the newspaper to the room.

Your last sentence really sums it up well. A newspaper just isn't a demanded service anymore. It used to be, and not long ago, but the rapid growth in use of tablets, smartphones etc has changed that and with free wifi now at the resorts newspapers will be even less in demand.

Cost of delivery certainly is part of it (we can certainly use that person's time more productively elsewhere) but the biggest factor is that we in the business provide those things for competitive advantage and newspapers just isn't one of those things that gives you that now.

You know, some of us go to Florida so we can be in the sun! How about you wear a hat? Or carry an umbrella, I have seen people do that to keep the sun off of them. If I wanted to be in a temperature controlled environment and ride some rides I'd go to the Mall of America. In Florida I want to be out in the sun!!!
When do you go to Florida? If you go in the months of July or August you could cook standing in the sun. I live in the deep south and it gets HOT and a hat doesn't help. A little shade can drop the temperature 10 degrees. That means a lot when the temp is in the 90's or hitting the 100 degree mark. Standing in the shade is a lot better than standing in the direct sun in extreme heat.

My recommendation for people who go in the summer yet can't take the heat is generally to stay home but if they HAVE to for some reason, they can stand in the shade that is at every bus stop. When the bus pulls up, get up and take a few steps forward and voila...you're on the bus. Then at the park, don't do any attraction with an outdoor line up and avoid all parades.

I've been to WDW during the week of the 4th of July, so I know how hot it can be. If I don't want the sun beating down on me, I wear a hat. It does help. I've also seen many women carrying parasols around to keep the sun off of them.

If someone can't stand being out in the sun for 20 minutes, how do they handle being in the parks all day long? Or do they spend their time running back and forth to the gift shops? Springing from one attraction to the next can't be healthy in the hot weather either.

Again, Disney has resorts that have shaded bus stops. And if that is something that is vital to a person's vacation, they should book one. I like that Disney offers cheaper, less fancy resorts. We each have to decide what amenities are important to us. Disney doesn't have to offer them all to everyone.

All Disney resorts have shaded areas at the bus stops - for the Values it is just a few steps away from the line, not right over the line. There is plenty of shade, benches to sit on, trash cans all within 4 steps of the bus stop. I have no idea why people are complaining about having to take a few steps from the shade to the bus. They should really just stay home or spend all their time in their hotel room if 4 steps in the sun is going to irritate them.

Ok ,we love disney. Go every year. Hopefully will go a lot more BUT there are little( well maybe big) things ( complaints) my wife seems to bring up each year. I keep telling her" Well write them and let them know"

1....she believes EVERY room should get complimentary newspaper. Probably cost them zero...would it kill them to have everyone ( not just delux) get a newspaper?

2.....Her major complaint ( been brought up previously) is that she can not understand why the bus stops at all stars cant have an overhang while people are standing, sometimes 20-25 minutes in the hot sun or pouring rain. Again..would it break the disney bank to give all star customers some protection at bus stops?

I can understand your DW's frustration, believe me I do. As far as newspapers, I am sure there has been many experiences where mousekeeping picked these newspapers up, never had been read. (Let's face it, alot who go to Disney want to shut the outside world away, me, being one of them) It could very well be a *as needed basis*, instead of creating alot of trash (I mean, the newspapers are readily available in the lobbys).

As far as an overhang, I have to agree with your wife. Either blazing sun, or inclement weather, either, is a pain in the neck. (Think about the time spent in parks in either the blazing sun or pouring rain) Perhaps a direct email to Disney regarding her concerns would help?

Is this a problem with reading comprehension or some type of sarcasm that is completely lost on me

Fact #1. Florida = hot, humid, very sunny "sunshine state", lots of rain, bugs.

Fact #2. Disney, see fact #1. And also Disney= pricey, crowded, congested, spread out for everything.

Fact #3. You will be walking, sitting, standing, waiting, eating, going to the potty, as mentioned in facts #1 and #2.

Fact #4. Sunscreen. Duh? SPF 50, Spf 100, Spf 30. Whatever you need bloody wear it. If in doubt see facts 1 and 3.

If you are unable to comprehend the above, stay home in your air conditioning.

Seriously, complaining about having to walk to get a newspaper? What is 22 out of the 300,000 or more steps you will take all day long.

Now here is a fact from our honeymoon. Both my wife and I developed blisters on our feet despite being careful. We used moleskin and corn pads to protect ourselves even more. Then used epsom salt in the tub at night to soak our feet in. We didn't complain, we improvised, over came and adapted.

And we used spf 50 the entire time during the day, and OFF at night. My wife is a redhead, with naturally very fair skin. I hosed her down with spf 50 every few hours. We wore hats all day. Neither of us were burned at the end of two very beautiful sunny Florida weeks.

As for the people subject to skin cancer. Might I respectfully suggest higher, spf, suitable clothing to cover skin, and sit in the shade while the rest of your party waits in the bus line:wave: I understand your concerns. But averaging out the time between attractions and just walking, you are receiving almost the same amount of sun the rest of us do.

Let us not forget the light from the sun does not hurt you, it is the UV rays, which is why you can still burn when it is cloudy.

Again, it is simply a matter of service. What truly sets an experience apart is when the customer service goes beyond the big items that attract people to stay. It is another example of Efficiency really being the most important of the Four Keys.

So my question to you is, do you go to the parks in the middle of the summer? If so, how do you keep the sun off of you while you are in the parks? Do you not go to Epcot? Or AK? How is touring the parks for hours at a time in the sun acceptable, but maybe waiting by the bus stop in the sun is not? How is that 20 minutes so different than the hours on end spent in the parks?

If being out in the sun is torture, which is how some posters make it sound, what are you all doing at a theme park which is mostly outdoors?

Duh, we look for breaks in the shade or in an AC'd building in the parks too.

Yep. A break in the shade. Meaning most of the time you are outside in the sun. Duh.:p Are you planning on saying Na na na na boo boo next?

Also, has been pointed out, there is shade by all of the bus stop. Some are just not covered. So if you want to be in the shade constantly, it is right there for you.

I'm finding it so strange that people are complaining about the ample amounts of shade right next to the bus stop - along with benches to sit down. Seriously WHAT is the compliant? There is shade, lots of it, under covered areas within a few feet of the bus stop.

I picture these exact people walking into the Magic Kingdom and standing 4 feet from an ice-cream cart and complaining that they can't get any ice-cream because the cart is waayyyyyyy over there and they are standing right here and refuse to move and why can't Disney follow me around with ice cream carts so I am not forced to walk 4 feet to get one.

If you don't mind walking 40 feet for shade between attractions why are you incapable of taking 4 steps so you can sit on a bench in the shade at the bus stop? :hammer::brick::hammer::brick:

If you stay at POP, yes there is a covered place for you to sit. If it is rush time and there are a lot of people you have to stand in the bus line which isn't covered. You can't sit in the covered area and jump up when the bus comes and expect to get on if the line is long. No, I don't go in the summer, but I've been there in December and April when it is hot also. Oh we did go one year in August and swore never to do that again. I like to go when I'm going to be comfortable or think I am. Also standing in the hot sun is a lot different than walking around in the sun. I'm sure other people have a different opinion on that point too. I'm from the New Orleans area so I know what hot is. I live and play in heat over half the year.

All I'm saying is give your guests a little shade and make them comfortable while waiting for the bus. It is just an opinion and everyone has one.

I lived in Alaska for four years and during that time I visited WDW during July. We literally spent the entire trip darting back and forth between gift shops. Especially on the TOT side of DHS. We walked all the way down the street in the gift shops.
