Hey guys, can we take a breath in this thread. It is becoming less than friendly. Thanks.

Absolutely, I just didn't like the way the original poster was being treated and it felt really unnecessary and unfair. Hopefully there will be no more negative posts after your guidance to all :) this should be a magical place

It isn't quite an upgrade but 2 weeks ago I stayed at AOA I knew they had king rooms (stayed in little mermaid) but there is no way to reserve them ahead of time. Our room was already ready when we arrived (at 8am) and we still asked to get a king room if possible. The CM made a phone call and then switched the room with no issue.

I would say that it is dependent on how full the resort is and the cast member! Hope you enjoy you're birthday!

Congrats on both your celebrations. I sense no attitude in your inquiry, and I hope you DO get your upgrade. If it were me, I'd note the two celebrations on your booking, and perhaps hint at an upgrade when you check in in a jovial manner. Perhaps you'll get lucky! I think that asking outright would take away the excitement the CM might otherwise have at "surprising" you with an upgrade in the small chance one is available. Don't let anyone make you feel bad for asking your question.

If you request an odd number room on the 3rd or 4th floor (3145-3157 or 4145-4157) at the Yacht Club, you will get the most "bang for your buck" without an upgrade. These are garden view rooms that are close to the elevator (a plus because the hallways at Yacht are long!) and they face Epcot...meaning you can see Illuminations while on your balcony :joyfull:. We could also see a little of Stormalong Bay and Crescent Lake. But watching Illuminations from our balcony was the best!!
This ^^^ also, when booking your trip, mention it's a special 40th, 40th trip, 40 candles on your birthday cake. Engage the agent a little bit. (The gift of gab sometimes pays off!) It's been my experience, this is the way to get an upgrade :) Other posters are correct, there is little the CMs at the front desk can do, maybe your luck would be better with an agent and his/her notifications on your reservation? I would think it would be easier prior to room assignments? Hey, it's a shot! Good luck and early Happy Birthday!!

@mousehockey37 , no we did not get an upgrade per se. They did give us a king bed room for nothing extra though.

Let them know you are celebrating your birthday, your trip count, and the number of other birthdays. CM's pay more attention to you. You may get singled out a tad more. Everyone there including other guests will be wishing you a happy birthday. I was over whelmed by the attention so much that I stared for a second before replying, just due to shock. Normally I don't get people smiling at me or being polite. It was a great change!:D

I am not sure about the request for an upgrade. April is a spring break month so it may get crowded. But, it never ever hurts to ask.

I have gotten random complimentary upgrades four times, I think. Twice to a tower room from a garden wing at CR, once to a garden club level from a standard non-club level room at the poly, and once from a garden club to a MK view club level room at the Poly (!!! That room was amazing.) There may have been one or two others I don't recall now.

All the times I got an upgrade were totally random, I'm afraid. I said nothing at check in and I usually didn't have any kind of special room requests (like wanting a particular building or whatever.) I don't believe I was celebrating anything on any of those trips either. As far as I know, it's really more about where the resort needs to shuffle guests around to rather than necessarily doing it to be extra nice to me. :)

Wow! You're are one lucky girl! Can I rub you arm or something? We shall see how my luck turns out! Either way, just can't wait to get there. With the year I have had, Disney World is sounding better and better. :)

I think one big thing that helped me get upgraded, if anything, was the fact that most of those trips were pretty short stays. I think one of them was only a single night because I treated my sister to an extra night at the Poly after our stay at POR earlier in the week. I'm guessing it's easier for them to move a guest who's only looking for a room for a few nights, as opposed to a week or more, but I'm not privy to how their room planning works so i don't really know what I'm talking about. ;)

I hope you have a great trip no matter what! :) You picked a great resort so you can't go wrong.

If the 3 rooms are connected to the same reservation, chances are you will not be upgraded. Reason being most people want the rooms close together and they are not going to upgrade all 3 for free. Also keep in mind the Front Desk Cast Members do not assign upgrades they are done before hand.

We're 3 different reservations. :) I wouldn't think they'd upgrade 3 either.

That's a great point! We are doing 4 nights. We actually tried for Wilderness Lodge because we absolutely loved it last year but with the room discount promo, WL was sold out for non-club rooms. I'm happy Yacht Club was open--we got the 3 last garden rooms with the promo price for our dates!
