My tragic day

Oh well... I went to the care center this evening still with the knot in my stomach, and the guy (they are all very nice to me) gave me a little bit of hope: he said they were using a special program to try to save my hard drive and they were running it with it, and there was a 50-50 chance of getting my info back. I´m keeping my fingers crossed that the good 50 is on my side! 
He is also ordering a new hard drive with the warranty, so I will not have to pay for this (thank God!) and he agreed that it seems to be just my luck that I got a crappy computer! *sigh* (how does that make me feel better? I don´t know, but I feel less depressed than yesterday!).
Anyways... after that, I returned some clothes at a store that I bought one year ago and haven´t worn because when I lost weight, they were too big for me then (and I don´t plan to gain that weight again!)... so I got back a good amount of $ very much needed! lol So that cheered me up a little tonight, and I am going out with my family to have dinner at the beach.
I´ll leave you all now... my brother is coming and don´t want to get in troubles for the pc...

Maria..you know I have been there before..i have even had my BACKUPS go corrupt (Why i dont use my JAZZ drive anymore)...The good news is...its these types of mistakes we only make ONCE.....as the old saying goes (For computer artists at least)..Save Once...Save Often. All too common is the story of the artist/writer working on something VERY important for 5 hours..and without saving..and then BOOM!!! Power goes out....
...anyway...good luck getting the paper recovered...id hate to see you have to go thru that again.

Now... you reminded me of an old joke someone once told me... I'll see if I can remember it...
Both Jesus and Satan were both avid computer programmers. Every day, they would boast about how thier new computer program was far superior to the others. Finally, one day, they decided to hold a contest, to see who truly was the best. So, they found an impartial judge, set the rules, and they began. Both Jesus and Satan start feverishly pounding away at the computer, trying to create the most amazing program ever. 3 and a half hours went by, and the contest was nearing the time limit. When my dell laptop frtized out on me about 2 months ago..I freaked out...my movie script was on there..
and I was having alot of issues writing character dialog, and developing my characters in the first 10 min (pages) of the script...and I kinda got over that hump and was progressing....so I was bummed.....but...I remembered I had saved a copy of it on a floppy and stashed it away....(phew)

Thanks for asking! I was supposed to call them yesterday at noon, but I went out with my family and nephew and forgot the time, so when I called them, the guy had already left. I´m trying to stay positive, but I think I will have to start the paper all over again tonight or tomorrow, as soon as my brother leaves the house and I can freely use his pc (which I don´t like!). :animwink: Pray for me please!

I called the guy today and he told me that they managed to save my pictures and my paper!! I´m sooo happy!! They are great! :sohappy: My hard drive is dead, but they managed to save my info! Pheeeew!!

That's wonderful Maria! We're all glad to hear the good news (except for that guy in the "Post your Jokes Here" section). Just remember to take the advice others have given you and in the future always backup your hard disk on a regular basis. Also, based upon your original post, you should always have your computer's power line and phone line hooked into a good UPS/Surge Protector. If you do that then maybe I won't have to pray for you so often! Take care.:wave:
