i think it will be something along the line of getting a 4 day hopper for the price of 3 in wdw and 3 day hopper in dlr for the price of a 2 day... same thing for resorts.... for leap (hopper) year.... you get an extra day

But what was the rest of the announcement? ABC (Disney) aired the commercial and at the end of the "get one free" announcement they said to stay tuned for the big announcement. What was it? My wife changed the channel without realizing it was coming up.

The contest. The second announcement was the fact that they're giving away 60 free vacations starting tomorrow (which I guess is now technically today) and ending on the 29th of February.

Starting January 1, 2012, enter every day through February 29, 2012 for a chance to win one of 60 vacation packages for 4 to either Walt Disney World Resort or Disneyland Resort.

The window is only two weeks? I just went to book just to see what the deal was, and it says: February 26 through March 10, 2012 are the only date ranges for the extra day promotion.

That's a pretty narrow window.

4 nights at Pop Century with a 4-day non-hopper was about $630. Because I have an AP (and probably won't renew for awhile after it expires) I put no expiration on the ticket and it was about $670. A 4-day non-hopper no-expry runs about $318, so the hotel is about $88/night.

AP rate is about $80ish, so you are saving maybe $5-10 a night by doing AP Rate, and of course I'd still have a 4-day pass to use next year.

Not really a bargain, but not terribly shabby. But the time frame is so limited, I am surprised they made such a big deal out of this - since it is so limited, I don't think I'd want to be there for it LOL because everyone taking advantage will be there.

(Of course I left out taxes to simplify things, but as in most cases, because of the price of park tickets mostly, it's hard for me to see the value in a 4-day trip when you've almost paid for a 7-day trip at the prices it costs).

and I assume those that booked free dining for this time period earlier won't be switching to this free day. Havent run the numbers but my guess is the free dining is a much better deal?

After hearing the big announcement last night I'm just not that impressed! Which is a first for me before I usually will defend Disney's marketing decisions to my grave LOL Ok so open 24 hours on 2/29 which doesn't affect anyone unless you are THERE! And then the buy 3 get 1 night free from January something to March something...again does not affect you unless you are THERE! Other then the "giving away a vacation package a day" for that particular time frame.....what about the rest of the year? Maybe Disney is just focusing on 1st Quarter and something else will come to light further down the line...any thoughts?

Either way I'm still going to my Happy Place in November. I was just hoping for a bit more! However, anyone who can benefit from the buy 3 get 1 night free deal? GREAT NEWS! CONGRATS! :)

I had no idea they had an announcement scheduled for yesterday. I did see the Disney commercial on abc right before the ball dropped, and made a remark to my family that a commercial that long at that time must've cost them serious cash. And to be honest, it didn't have too much promotional impact for their new "announcement."

Now, I can completely understand why they did this: to get more bodies through the gates during a relatively slow period on the calendar. The promotion of 4 for 3 is effective, as its an easy to remember and figure out deal (as opposed to buying four nights and trying to figure out discounts etc). Its simpler, and honestly the simpler you can make these things the more appeal they are going to have to the masses.

HOWEVER, its only valid during a period of less than 2 weeks? Really :brick:? Really?! I'm honestly stunned by this move. All this promotion and you can only take advantage of it for 2 weeks. It just seems like an amateur move that I wouldn't expect of Disney. I mean, give the masses a longer timeframe to take advantage of the offer. People who are coming over spring breaks probably have already booked reservations. This would help fill the empty space during that busy mid-March through April period. The promotion could end sometime in May and bring the resort into another busy period. I just fail to see why offering this for two weeks does Disney any good.

I'm not really that impressed either, and I usually am excited for anything Disney does, however small. But this is such a narrow window, and most people can't plan a Disney vacation for 2 months from now. Especially us Disney fanatics who plan so far in advance. The vacation giveaway is fun - I'm glad they added something in like that. I was just hoping for something more exciting. Oh well - congrats to those who can take advantage of this deal. :animwink:
