I don't look so dumb now do I?

See what I'm saying now. There are two reasons that I don't want to see this attraction IN PERSON. First off they didnt' change the look all that much. I will be thinking about AE the whole time and I will start missing it. Everything looks so similar in there. I got a little sad when I looked at some of the pics of the attraction. Everytime I see Sarge, I think "Hey that's S.I.R.'s spot" And I know that if it was hard for me to look at the pics and watch some video of the attraction, imagine how hard it would be for me to actually be in there. I just couldn't handle it. I know it sounds dumb because it's just a theme park attraction, but AE was special to me. I think about it everyday and I wish it was still there constantly. I know I should be able to "get over it", but while I am trying, it is still tough.

The 2nd reason I don't want to see this is simply....I don't like Stitch. I didn't like "Lilo & Stitch" the film and I don't like the character.

So now hopefully you can see my point of view. I wasn't trying to be snotty or rude to Stitch fans or anything, but I just don't think I can see this and be happy about it. And it wasn't just sour grapes either. If they had put a Treasure Planet attraction in there instead of Stitch (A movie that I really liked, for example, as opposed to Lilo and Stitch), it would still be the same thing for me.

Thanks for the review Kevin
Phew.. Im glad someone finally said it. I am also not a big fan of Lilo & Stitch and thought I was the only one. The movie was just OK to me and am amazed that it was popular enough to have an attraction. I was a big fan of AE and will miss it. When I visit next I will ride the attraction just to see how it is but know it can never replace AE.

Remember when?

As I recall, Alien Encounter opened in '94 (or so) very briefly. The show then went down for a month or so, and re-opened after some script changes. Does anyone else recall that, or am I getting things mixed up? (wouldn't be the first time)

Yep. Actually I believe it closed around November 94 and reopened in June 1995 (not 100% sure about the closing date).

They completely changed the 2nd preshow and the made quite a few changes to the main chamber show.

I saw the original AE before they closed it and reopened it, and the original was HORRIBLE. I remember being so disappointed by it because it made no sense whatsoever and was utterly un-scary (which considering all the ads for it promised that it would be terrifying, was a very bad thing). When I heard it was nixed by Eisner, I remember being very gald to hear that it would be re-done. I always liked the attraction after the changes, and am sad it is gone. But there was never anyone that wanted to see it anymore, so change was inevitable...

Wt S Sge Ae N Mnsshp?

I think he's asking what SGE, AE, and MNSSHP stand for. Well, SGE is Stitch's Great Escape, AE is Alien Encounter, and MNSSHP is Mickey's Not so Scary Halloween party.

Great review Kevin. I think this attraction might have gotten its little slice of budgets. I agree, It all looks too similar to AE. The gags are too predictable while AE had more fun sly humor. And I also agree that Tomorrowland has lost its balance. I mean, its good in Fantaseyland that they have character rides, but it doesn't work too well in Tomorrowland. Stitch would have been perfect in MGM! Its really upsetting how they keep adding all of these attractions with characters in them in other lands instead of Fantaseyland. I mean, look, Character greeting in Salloon, Iago and Zazu in the Enchanted Tiki room, a new section in Adventureland themed to aladdin, Buzz, then Stitch! :brick: Such a shame.

I don't have a problem with the attraction having the same look & layout as long as it's a good quality and something I want to experience over and over.

Heck, the gags they used in AE can be essentially the same as well, as long as they are implemented well. But Disney has to realize that a certain segment of then population

I'm not disappointed in the attraction because of what I thought of AE, just using it as a basis for comparision in my review. :D

Just returned from WDW yesterday, and I got to see SGE myself also.

I liked it...I think it'll appeal to a larger audience than AE did. That being said, I might not see it more than a couple times a trip.

I did think it was VERY well done, and the AA Stitch and the plasma cannons inparticular were some of the best I've seen anywhere in WDW.

While I don't think anybody will be totally disappointed, I don't think anyone walks away saying "wow".

Well one word comes to mind after reading that.....DUH!

 Just teasing man.

It was no secret that you didn't like AE at all and that's fine. What was it that kept the attraction from getting the "wow" factor in your opinion? Was it not different enough from AE for your taste or did it seem to short, or what exactly was it? Thanks.

Well, I think that I liked it better than AE....and the way it sounded, a large number of people did as well. I suppose it depends on your age.

I did like AE....I just felt it would have been a better attraction at the studios...but not at MK. I think that the stitch ride better suits the overall focus of the park. It's more family friendly, and that's what the park is about.

In the long run, this is a better decision than AE. It'll have a larger core audience....much larger than the lingering few still upset that AE left.

Well that's your opinion and I respect that, even though I disagree on some points.

But anyways what was it that you thought that SGE was missing? I'm trying to see what people think it needs to do a better job on, because it seems that there is a possibility that this might need some changes.

Vs...

My review for the new detractors who haven't read it yet I am a huge AE fan and have been on Stitch many many times. Those who have already made up their minds ought to experience the thing first. By not doing so, they are putting themselves at a serious disadvantage. For more info click above

I agree, people should form their own opinions based on their own experience.

I noticed you enjoyed the attraction the more times you went on it. I've had that happen many times myself. Could it happen with SGE? Yes, though right now I dont see myself thinking that.
