My Review Of Revenge Of The Mummy!

I went on Revenge of the Mummy today! Even though it isn't even finished, I think that it is an amazing ride, and it may be my new favorite ride ever! I'm sure there's lots of reviews out now that it's open, but here are my thoughts:

The lines were really short! I don't think people know that this is open yet. It was no more than 30 minutes when I was there. (One time it said 40 min, but it was actually more like 20) They also have a single riders line open.

I don't like the lockers. Even if you had the tiniest little bag they said that you had to store it in the lockers. The lockers are confusing and there isn't much room to walk around in the locker area.

The cast members (or whatever they are called at Universal) are amazing! They were all carrying around coffee and saying, "Where's Brendan Fraiser? He needs his latte!" And then later they were saying how Imotep was going to steal our souls and things like that.

The line is amazing! It is also very long. First you go through a whole building where a movie is playing and Mummy movie stuff and props are on the walls. I didn't see much of the movie because the line was short, but I did see Brendan Fraiser looking for a latte and an old lady from the movie Polterguiest talking about how the place is haunted and stuff like that. They show clips of the movie and have interviews with the director, etc. Later they don't play the movie anymore and you get to a room with Egyptian pictures on the walls and such. There's a place where you put your hand and I think it makes the lights get brighter (?) and then they have video you can see of people in line, a blue stone thing that lights up, a piece of gold that you reach at and it hits you with air, and a bridge that has air coming out of it. Then you go up some stairs and get to the ride.

The ride starts off in a dark room with skeletons. One skeleton on the left is wearing an Islands of Adventure shirt which is very obvious. On the right side there is a mummy, I guess. I thought it was going to move but it does not. As you turn the corner you see a guy that was in the pre-show video, Reggie, and he is wrapped up like a mummy and moving around, telling you how you need to find the madgi symbol. Suddenly the mummy next to him light up and says that you will never get out. (Or something like that, I'm not good with details...it was hard to hear what they were saying sometimes).

Soon you find yourself in another room. This room is filled with gold. Imotep talks to you on a screen and lots of mummies pop out at you. Then you go under a door that is closing. This is better to do in the front because if you sit in the back you can already see that it stops before it can close on you.

The next room is one of the best parts of the ride. It's a small room and bugs come out in front of you. Suddenly you go backwards which is an awesome feeling. Next you turn around while Imotep is talking to you and now you are facing a tall hill. You go up the hill and then you launch into the coaster and right into Imotep's mouth which is filled with green smoke.

The coaster part is lots of fun. It feels like it is going pretty fast, I'm not sure exactly how fast it goes though. While you are doing the coaster portion of the ride lots of mummies are around.

There is sort of a fake ending next. Lots of people thought this was the end of the ride and were pretty surprised. There is a window with a ride worker in it. She talks, but then Imotep comes back and the window is broken. If you are sitting towards the front you get wet. Whenever I sat in the back I didn't get wet at all. Then it gets hot when the whole ceiling is set on fire! Then you go down an awesome drop and there is another coaster portion of the ride!

This coaster part of the ride is shorter than the first, I think. There are more mummies and Imotep blows smoke at you. Then you go through another opening and the ride is sadly over.

Brendan Fraiser tells you that you all did is great job. Then he says he would have enjoyed his interview better if he had a coffee. Then a mummy hand hands Brendan his coffee and Brendan screams and the screen goes blank. Throughout this video the words are on the screen.

I'm definately not the only one who loves this ride! I went on it about 5 times and each time I heard people throughout the ride saying, "that's awesome!" or "that's wicked!" At the end each time everyone clapped really loud and I heard a lot of "that's the best ride!"

I can't wait to go back when the ride is 100% done! The only things I don't like are the lockers and it does seem a little short because the ending is pretty fast. But it's still an A+++++ ride!

I'm so glad you liked the ride! And just think... you loved it this much even without the 3 advanced animatronics that are still being tinkered with and will be installed mid-April sometime. Be sure to check out the ride after it has its official opening on May 21st because I'm sure you'll find you like the ride even more!

Well, sounds like the ride is EXACTLY as the video that has been floating around indicated. Hope the false ending isn't as cheap as it looked there. I always hate ride elements which are 1 time only things.

Also, I give the cast members until May before they say... screw this coffee-line crap... load up another ride vehicle and let's get out of here.

As for the bags, I find that really odd. My only guess is that there is some extreme safety issue if they were to fall out. I mean, I've taken large bags on everything from ToT to RnRC without problems. They stay put.

So the real opening is pretty much confirmed for the 21st now? I hope they're still doing soft openings when I get down there (We're going to Universal the 14th and 15th of May, then to Disney World til the 26th)

Yes, the official opening was confirmed by Universal a few days ago as May 21st. However, the chances of the ride being in some form of a soft opening when you are down there in April are pretty good. Just walk past the building once in the morning, once in the afternoon, and then once again at night to see if people are walking into the building. Good luck!

Yeah, I can't wait to see the ride when it is 100% done! They had signs everywhere saying that the ride wasn't done and the employees were all stressing that you have to come back and see "what Imotep has in store for you" after the grand opening. :D

There a several rides at RTM and IOA where they require you to put any bags in a locker- but the locker is free- you just go to a computer screen and it gives you a locker number and you just take the key. You have to do this on Hulk and Men in Black, I know.

I like how at WDW you can take your bags on every ride. -Stephanie

The locker is free for 2 hours. You don't use a key, you use your fingerprint. I saw that many people were really confused about this, and didn't know what to do. When I tried to get my bag back it kept saying that my fingerprint was invalid and it seemed to take forever to get the bag back, I pressed my finger on the scanner so many times... When the ride officially opens I hope it's not going to be a madhouse around there to get to the lockers because it was packed enough already! Also, I've always been able to take a bag on Men In Black, they have a pouch to put your stuff in.

Thanks in advance!

They don't look like roller coaster cars at all to me. There are four rows with four people in each row. I guess I could compare them to Dinosaur cars? They are themed, they have words on the front and they say "London 1929" and things like that, I really didn't pay that much attention to the cars though. They aren't UNcomfortable but I wouldn't say that they are really comfortable either. You are packed in there pretty tight. The restraints are a big black bar with padding on the top of it for each individual seat that fits to each person well. I felt really secure. There is also a black headrest and they tell you on the warning signs to put your head back.

Thanks for the report/review Brooke! Very good! :D

This locker thing seems like it could be a disaster when things are really busy. I didn't know they did it at DD and MIB though, so if its worked before, I guess there's nothing to worry about. I still don't know what the big problem is though, I've taken bags on nearly every ride and coaster at Disney and Universal at one time or another and never had problems. I could see where larger bags would be a problem and how lockers could be handy then, but the "warning" signs for Mummy distinctly say NO CARRY-ON bags, etc. How strict do you think Uni employees are with that rule?

Thanks again for the review :)

Universal is VERY strict with this rule. They provide FREE lockers for your convenience so I don't see why people get angry and don't follow the rules. Universal hated having to shut rides down for a few minutes while they searched for some shmucks wallet and keys so they decided to do something about it. Also, rides are sophisticated pieces of machinery that can be damaged by falling coins, keys, etc. They were also sick of hearing about lost items while in queues and after the rides were over. In my opinion, Disney should do this at Space and Splash Mountains because I HATE bringing my stuff on those rides. Yes, they probably won't fall out but it is uncomfortable and one more thing to worry about while trying to have fun.

I totally understand why Universal has the lockers and think it's a great idea. I just don't like the locker situation at the Mummy ride and I didn't like that when I was there there was no one to help all the people that were upset and couldn't get their stuff out of the lockers. Hopefully they will fix this soon and make it easier for everyone because I saw some people get fed up and not go on the great ride because of this.

Thanks for the review Brooke.

I am trying to guage whether I will be able to handle this ride. I love Splash Mountain, BTMR, Star Tours, TOT, and Back to the Future. I would have a heart attack on Hulk or DD.

Can you give me an idea where this attraction falls on the coaster spectrum, with Goofy's Barnstormer being a 1, Splash Mountain being a 2, BTMR being a 3, and on the other end, Hulk and DD being 10s. Thanks.

I'd rate it about a 4 or 5. It's not really an intense ride, but it's very fun. I'd say that if you can handle the roughness of Back to the Future, you won't have any problems with this ride.

Thanks MrNonacho. I am going to try it. Hopefully they will have some kind of preview/soft opening at the end of this month when I am down there. Though it sounds like late May is more likely. Oh well, next year.

I got some questions also.

1) Does the "No Carry-On Items Are Allowed" rule affect people with glasses, and are people with glasses safe wearing them on the ride?(I have glasses, and the thing is that 1) I don't want to lose them, and 2) I can
see without them, it's just for the distance.)

2) Does anyone know when exactly the Technical Rehearsal is actually in place?

Thanks!

I wore mine on the ride, cannot see much ahead of me without them, not even larger print...

I believe it might have a pause for slight adjustments but be continuing untill grand opening, like with Mission Space...

Actually there are rumblings that the ride will close this Saturday so that they can install the animatronics. It isn't rumored to re-open until early May. I'm not sure if this is 100 percent accurate but I figured I would warn you all.
