My "Philharmagic" pet peeve

As much as I enjoy the attraction, I always thought the way that Donald comes off the screen at the end, does not coorelate to his position in the wall.

He comes at you on a slightly downward arch. So how does he end up much higher than you in the wall

I've tried seats all over the theater and it's the same effect.

I'm surprised I haven't heard more people mention this, even though it's a minor point. :D

I think he had a little Pixie Dust caught up under his wing from the Peter Pan part of the show, and it gives him a little lift...

... No, seriously, good point! Who knows!

Well you're right but I suppose they thought it would be too close to the audience and perhaps they would tamper with it, go figure. YOU JUST HAVE TO LET SOME STUFF SLIDE! lol

That is actually a funny point, because actually I noticed it too. I only saw the show once, so I just assumed it was my mistake. Next time I have to remember to look at the back wall BEFORE that scene to see what it looks like when the animatronic actually comes out of the wall.

And who is it around here that accuses us of criticizing minutae? :lookaroun  :zipit:

I'm not jumping up and down asking Grizz to add this to the D-Troops complaint. Grizz will be upset when they repaint the Genie poster (in the queue) with a slightly off colored blue that is not from the original paint scheme used for the movie and the manufacturer of the paint brush has changed. :p :lookaroun

But when somethnig is good, you want it tweaked to perfection :D

I'm not expecting Donald to come close to the audience at all. But he should have an upward trajectory so it's more believable. It stuck out like a sore thumb to me o the first viewing cause Donald is coming right at you. Then he's up high on the back wall.

Stick in a ricochet sound and have done with it :D

I think this was a case of budget cuts. EVeryone and their mother knows it takes more time to animate UPWARD trajectory than DOWNWARD trajectory.

  :D

P.S. - Has this thread made you sick of the term TRAJECTORY yet?

If you look in the grassy knoll you should see the faint outline of something that has the appearance of an apparatus that could possible have changed the direction of Donald’s flight path. :hammer:

Come on, everyone knows that there were multiple trajectories.....

The downward slope of the projector line of sight to the screen makes it impossible to simulate an UPWARD trajectory in 3D. So, they have to settle with the DOWNWARD trajectory. If, in the future, they wanted to add an UPWARD trajectory, they would have to add a camera in the back below Donald's flight path so as to have an UPWARD line of sight from the projector to screen so as to get the stated UPWARD trajectory. OBVIOUSLY the Imagineers thought of this while creating the show and realized that it would be an impossible feat due to the theater seating being in line of sight from projector to screen. So, in essence, it would be impossible to give Donald an UPWARD trajectory, so they had to settle for the current DOWNWARD trajectory. :hammer:

In all seriousness, I love Philharmagic. It's #2 on my list of 4D movies, right behind ITTBAB.

That doesn't make much sense to me. Why would the projector's line of sight have ANYTHING to do with the placement of the 3-D images? After all, the images do remain on the screen the whole time, so the question should be the placement of the screen, shouldn't it? And I think the screen is tall enough to show an image realistically moving upwards.

The only reason I can think of is that they wanted Donald to be flying right at you at the finally of the show, just for an exciting ending, but the animatronic had to be high enough for the whole audience to see, and perhaps for no one to touch.

Ok now this is awful! Philharmagic is an amazing show that I would highly recommend to anyone. The effects are absolutely amazing and makes Muppets 3-D look like garbage IMO.

Seriously, what next are we going to start complaing that the Main Street USA doesn't line up perfectly with Cinderella's Castle? Come on, honestly who cares? Philharmagic is my favorite attraction at WDW and I never even noticed that Donald was 'off position.'

I do have one peeve about the attraction:
This is pretty much the case with all 3-D attractions but if you sit too close to the screen (first 3 rows or so) the 3-D effects are a little blury. So rather than rush the doors when they open auto-magically wait back and steak out a great seat towards the back, you can't go wrong!

My biggest pet peeve with Philharmagic, or any other seated show, are the morons who do not move all the way down the row to be seated. I think the screen is big enough to have a great view anywhere. Inconsiderate morons who expect you to step over the, I just step on em.
They ought to rig the seats to not fold down unless the farthest seats are down, that'll show em!

OMG... dont even get me started on this! This is my absolute biggest pet peeve ever!!!!!! And the part that gets me the most? After practically crawling all over them to get past them because of THEIR sheer stupidity, they yell at you or get p-d off because you did so!! I hate it when they mutter something like "people are so rude.. dont they say excuse me anymore??!!!"

nooooo.... EXCUSE YOU, YOU... ( explicit language proceeds)

IMO, Muppets is a better total attraction - a brilliant pre-show, inventive use of multiple animatronics coordinated with the main show and a well thought out and scripted story.

Philarmagic is no slouch either, but in comparison to Muppets, it's a 3D trailer for the full length DVDs ;)

I'm not complaining, I'm just stating a little thing that always bugs me, BIG difference. :D

  Didn't you just complain about people doing this

Also, next time I'm in Magic Kingdom, I'll be sure to bring my T Square & leveler to make sure Main Street is correct. :drevil: :drevil:
