My one complaint with the new rides in the parks

While it would be really cool if these new attractions were longer, what they do have is just simply awesome. Yeah it would be great if all attractions were as long as Pirates, Splash Mountain, Haunted Mansion or any other really long E-ticket attractions but what these attractions lack in ride time, they make up in quality.

The general public wants thrill rides...

Does it? Im sure there is a better balance to be struck. But if all itsoffered is thrill rides it sort of makes it self perpetuating. Look at how popular it is, lets build another.

That's where I'm different. I don't get to visit very often so the preshow is important to me as well. Had I been told we're skipping this part I'd have felt jipped out of a part of the ride I was interested in.

I agree with you in a way. I mean, I like the preshows the first time I see them on a trip. Generally, they're well done and entertaining, and they usually tie directly back into the actual attraction (as is the case in TT, Dinosaur, and M:S, to begin with), but on the last day of our vacation, when we'd sat through the TT preshow 4 times already, I was VERY glad he ushered us through!

That is what it kind of seems like to me. "This [insert brand new shiny thrill ride here] is doing so well, we should build another one!!!!!1!11!!!" I don't mind that the thrill rides are there, at all. I can even ride some of them without losing my lunch! But I also miss some of the old, long, immersive omnimover rides and such.

I don't think the general public wants thrill rides. The 12-25 crowd does, but the children don't, and the older adult public doesn't either. The problems Six Flags is having should show that. Their parks are becoming nothing but teen hangouts. They're realizing that they need some dark rides and things like that get the whole family there and having a great time.

I have no problem with having some thrill rides, but we're getting close to the balance we need. Disney doesn't need to become known as a thrill park, it needs to retain its charm for the entire family no matter how old or young you are. If we keep going with the thrill rides we're going to get to the point where we're isolating major demographic groups. I think there had been not been enough rides for the teens in the parks and that looks to be getting fixed. I'm just hoping that we don't overload the parks with them. Hopefully our next E-Tickets in the future can be something the whole family can love.

I totally agree, they cant stop making thrill rides but they also cant stop making family friendly dark rides. The key is BALANCE and I hope Disneys new blood remembers what has made Disney special.

The line speaks

There has been a lot of debate about what people want. Sadly, at least to me, the lines speak volumes. I love the Carousel of Progress but during my last visit, we were able to walk right on. That was not the case for Tower of Terror or Soarin or Dinasaur. I hope that Disney keeps some of the classics but economics will eventually drive the direction.

There's something that bother's me about this whole "thrill-ride" debate. These thrill rides aren't the norm. You guys are copmparing them to Six Flags' coasters. Let me tell you, Disney's most intense coaster, Rockin Roller Coaster, is a baby compared to almost anything that you can find at a Six Flags park. These aren't bon jarring rides, with the exception of M:S. Plus it's not like these are the only rides that Disney is building. Both the Nemo attractions and the rumored Midway Mania are not thrill rides. Plus Disney is taking time to refurb classics like POTC, and maybe we'll even get a new version of Imagination. I'll agree that the thrill rides get most of the billing, but that's because they are the mos expensive to build.

I would have thought that the rate of people riding per operation would have been a factor in that

Of course there is always going to be disagreement with this topic...and of course, I do not disagree that I love being able to enjoy the longer rides because it's worth it after 50 minutes of waiting in line. But those 3-minute thrill rides? IT'S A THRILL!! Your heart beats faster and you want more. But I think that's good.

So in my heart, there is a place for rides both old and new. The older rides bring back tradition...the new rides hopefully contribute a new aspect to that never-ending tradition.

Though lines can be a measuring stick, you must be careful not to rely on them alone for evaluating the popularity of an attraction. Ride capacity, load/unload procedures, the length of ride, promotion, location in the park, size and popularity of nearby attractions, and a host of other things can greatly affect the length of lines. Remember that the Discovery Island river boats had enormous lines but Disney still closed them because so many people complained about how little there was to the attraction.

I've said this before but here you go again. IMO, it's not the E-tickets that make Disney the king of theme parks. Its the B-, C-, and D-Tickets. Those attractions "fill out" the parks and make them a more richer experience. Most of those second tier attractions are friendly to people of all ages.
