My Mouseketeer's Surprise Trip- AKA: "She's been to Disney HOW many times?"-9/28-10/8

We’re back home from the world, and while I’m kinda sad to be home, I’m okay with it. Really. Anyways, though it’s time to get this Trip Report started!

The players: Me, my wonderful DH, Marc, and my 2 year old Anastasia (25 months old, to be exact)

A little background. This trip was SO not supposed to happen. We went last September. We went in January. We went in March (never got around to finishing that TR, but I’ll finish this one if it takes me till 2010!), not to mention we've got a trip planned for this coming January. so we had already had our Disney allotment for a while. It wasn’t in the ever tightening budget. Anastasia was starting preschool. Lots of reasons not to go.

So back in August, one of our dear members went on a trip with a view of the Magic Kingdom from the Contemporary. Every day I’d check their trip report and then tell Marc all about it… “Look how much fun they’re having!” “Awww! Look at that picture!” and so forth. Not really meaning to sound like I was wishing to go, (I was really really happy this certain person was there and having a great time!)

But my Marc… I REALLY should know better by now. Turns out that he had contacted our DVC rep and added on enough points to cover a quick trip this September (in addition to a few we had banked). He had all these grand plans about how to surprise me. He actually changed the mailing address on our account so all the paperwork went to his parents’ house. He was going to either tell me the week before we left, or (this was his favorite) get me out of the house for the day, steal my packing lists off my computer and get us all packed and ready to go. Then he’d wake me up at 5 AM and tell me we were headed to Disney!

All this was going on unknown to me…. Until one day I got a letter in the mail from the DVC about “Welcome Home! More points blah blah blah…” Uh… More points? We didn’t get more points. I called Marc, but he was in meetings all day. Then I called the DVC and asked why I was getting this letter. They told me that their records show that we had purchased XY points and were scheduled to go in September. Uh… and I quote “And I see here on my notes that it was supposed to be a surprise.”

Yeah.

Oops.

When Marc called back, he was livid. How could they spoil the surprise!?! All the other paperwork had been arriving at his parents’ house, why did this one get mailed back to our address? He called back to complain, but nothing came of it, other than my spoiled surprise.

So, even though it decimated our savings, we were going to Disney! He was happy as a kid to be going. He works REALLY long hours, and doesn’t get much quality time with Anastasia. So I let it go, and we were soon in packing mode!

I was apparently a glutton for punishment, so after lunch I decided to head back to the MK. I got there in time to see the afternoon parade. The little pre-parade for Snow White was interesting...

The smallest, most pointless float in existence.

Not wanting to stand out in the heat for a long time, I tried to make my way to The Hall of Presidents... but got stuck in a bottleneck next to Sleepy Hollow. So I ended up watching the parade anyways. Those poor poor performers.. I cannot imagine marching and dancing in that heat..

Finally I made it to HoP, and watched the show. Nice. I liked it a lot - even cried at the end. Stupid dramatic music!! I wandered around for a bit, but didn't feel like doing much. So I took the monorail over to Epcot to meet Marc and Anastasia over there.

Love the pumpkins!

We ate dinner in Seasons, where Marc got his grinder that he looks forward to every trip... except that this time they put mustard on his sandwich for him, and he hates mustard. Sigh. I still liked it though.

Aww, so cute!

Anastasia had been potty trained for a couple of months now, and we were so proud of her for being accident-free while we were at Disney. I had worried about her forgetting or relapsing while there was so much distraction going on. Marc decided to treat her to a lollipop... And I thought he meant a small one... Marc being an extremist, went for the biggest one they had!

ry%3D400

"Look Mommy! It's bigger than my head!!"
ry%3D400

"Mmmm...."
ry%3D400

That dang lollipop lasted the entire trip, came home in one piece, and lasted for the next TWO MONTHS until it got too nasty to handle, and I finally threw it out. It still ended up being a great motivational tool.

Wow, that lollipop is HUGE! I may need to get myself one of those:lookaroun

We met up and rode the safari together, where Anastasia pointed out all the animals. Afterwards we wandered around the trails for a while, trying to keep cool.

Fish!

We then booked it over to the first show of Nemo! We got fantastic seats, and the girl was in her glory...

Then, because the heat was killing us, we ditched the park and headed back to the pool at Saratoga.

This is how we spent the next few hours:

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

We had a light rain while she napped, so we had to suit her up in her rain coat on our way to dinner. Sadly my wussy hubby decided that we didn't want to get rained on, so we drove to Ft. Wilderness instead of taking the boat from the Wilderness Lodge like we usually do.

Of course it stopped raining the second we parked the car. :hammer:

We had plenty of time to play at the playground before our dinner ressies.

So, while we're eating in the Trail's End, I'm noticing that someone is celebrating a birthday and they got a strawberry shortcake!! Just like the one they serve next door at the Hoop De Doo!! I mentioned to Marc that that was the one thing I missed about the HDD food that they don't serve at the Trail's End.

Meanwhile, I had to take Anastasia out to go potty, and when I get back, I'm pounced upon by our waiter who makes me a necklace out of Mickey stickers, announces it's my birthday, and then presents me with cake! Awww... Marc told them we were celebrating my birthay while I was gone.

After dinner we headed over to Epcot for our meet up with Dot (Uponastar)!!

We wandered around for a bit in Mexico..

ry%3D400

We met up by the train garden and Anastasia ooohed and aaahed over the tiny trains with them.

ry%3D400

It's Dot!

ry%3D400

We said goodbye to Marc and Anastasia who had to go back for bedtime. And we wandered around in Epcot, rode Maelstrom and Gran Fiesta:

ry%3D400

We accidently met up with Vince who was also wandering around World Showcase:

ry%3D400

We watched Illuminations together. Yay for fireworks! My one and only time this trip!

Then it was back to bed again.
