My Magic+, Rapid Fill, & My Disney Experience

Now that my trip countdown is under 30 days, I want to share some pre-trip preparations. We will be leaving NJ on the 17th of August for a 19th-23rd stay at POP. Yesterday, was a technological breakthrough in the planning phase. As many of us know, My Magic+ is currently in the testing phase and my family is a part of the testing. Supposedly, a lot of trips in August will be offered this opportunity. We actually lucked out as yesterday was the last day for us to be able to customize our bands. The default is gray, but the DW chose pink, DS1 chose red, DS2 chose orange, and I chose blue. So if you are heading down in the second half of August, time is running out for you on bracelet customization.

I am glad that the refillable mugs are going to be different this year. We have 8 of the gang poolside. I get the desire by Disney to limit people's ability use of the filing station, and I know it is probably slim to none it ever happens again, but I'd really like to report specific mugs, even if they cost a little bit more. (Sorry for the forums longest run-on sentence.)

Finally, I've gotten rid of the Disney Parks app in favor of My Disney Experience. The trip is attached to my DW e-mail, and (supposedly) she accepted my information request, but I haven't been able to access our reservation info on either my phone or my Kindle. A phone call to Disney Tech Desk will probably be in my near future. I want to take advantage of making a pre-trip Fast Pass+ for Soarin' (the only ride we've never been able to do as a family).

Any tips regarding these items would be appreciated. Any questions or comments will be replied in kind. Hopefully all of this will lead up to my first ever trip report. Wish me luck.

How did you find out that you were a part of the testing? Did they contact you or tell you at booking?

I called and asked if I had to choose the colors for our My Magic+ bands ahead of time. They said it still wasn't the standard operating system, but they were doing testing in August. I was told if we were a part of the testing, we'd see it in our Disney profile. It was under tickets/bands.

That's exactly how I found out. It just appeared in My Disney Experience a few days ago.

I was told (not sure how accurately) by a CM at Disney Travel when I called that they will not be shipping the bands for these tests, rather, they will be issuing them at the hotels. In addition, when you customize them, I was also told that you "may not" get the colors you chose.

Basically, Disney is saying nada and making no promises. <grin>

Still, if it's on your experience app, you've been chosen for testing. Customize your bands, book your FP+ options (I note, the tiering is gone now), and have fun!

Guess I'm not a part of it (yet) as I don't have anything allowing me to customize a band. It keeps asking me if I want to link a reservation/card/ticket and I booked through disney for sept. Honestly though I really don't care as it is a wearable version of what's in my wallet already :)

I am 24 days out. If they contact you for this test, can you opt out? We have days where we have recreational activities scheduled and I am not planning rides around that.

Sure. You just opt not to do any FP+ reservations for that day...

I don't see why that wouldn't work...

Thanks. I wasn't sure, because there is a similar thread in General Discussion and sounds like Disney is sending people snail mail notification of their participation. I haven't been totally following this because I thought my trip was too near for full implementation.

I can say from personal experience, some are getting snail mail notices, some are getting email notices, and some (like me) aren't getting any notices at all, it just "appears" in My Disney Experience.

I only found out because I was double checking plans earlier this week, and noticed I now had access to those features.

There are screen shots in my pre-trip / trip report for this year...it's my latest post in there...

I am going on my first cruise with the Girls' Cruise in Sept., I don't even know what to expect and that's half the fun. :)

I am anticipating the "call" at our Chef Mickey's breakfast where she finds out (yes, she still doesn't know about the cruise, or Disney really. Disney, I suspect, won't be as big a surprise, as we've done it every year since 2010, so even if she doesn't know, she'll figure it out quickly)...

In fact, her only request for this year was to do legoland, so we are going to peel off a day to do that. She did the legoland here in Atlanta last year (not quite a theme park experience at all, but it's still fun) and has been obsessed since then with lego (which her mom and I, both lego fans, have not discouraged). She was a bit upset that she wasn't here for the whole summer, like previous years...she called me the last day of school to say how excited she was to come visit.

She also wants to do Be Our Guest, but according to her mom, she thinks it's a ride (based on adverts they are running up in their market)...her mom and I joked (and actually bet) on if she'd be disappointed by a restaurant, based on her pre-conceptions. I bet she would be. Mom bet she wouldn't. I lose ten bucks if I'm wrong!
