We first started to come to Disney in 1985. Id say 3 of our first 6-7 annual trips we spent staying at The Polynesian. By far our favorite of all the 16 we have stayed at...BUT its been so long since we have been able to stay there and being that we usually stay 10-12 days , paying bout $400 a night just makes no sense. Cost of Poly has gone through the roof. But no worry there are so many nice ones ,that you cant lose. Still...Polynesian will only be in our plans if we choose to go for like 2-3 days or split but dont see that coming anytime soon.

In 2012 I was able to find some great deals at Disney resorts but this year I am having trouble. I am always deal hunting for vacations! Last year I got POP for 77 a night on hotels.com during the field hockey showcase. Now this year the best deal was double. I was also able to get POP 4 months earlier for about the same with my mother in law booking it with her Florida Res. discount. This year I haven't been able to find any really great off season deals. Looks like a few night trip is about all we will see this year.

See all the people who complain about the price of 20 cigarettes 10 year ago when it was $4.50.When next week comes, the chancellor will raise a packet of 20 cigarettes to $9.00,all these same people will still be moaning, but will they give them up..In a answer. No!

Pet peeve of mine, people who complain about the cost of "whatever", yet are 1-4 packs a day smokers. And they never, ever, go without the cigarettes.

Don't even go there. Theres a guy who drinks in my local and smokes 40 cigarettes a day. In December last year he said to me," Thats it,I'am quitting the ,the governments no making me their puppet." Met him at the weekend with the cigarette sticking out his mouth. Puppet eh! He is the walking Pinnochio of the local pub.

Disney hotel prices are ridiculous. You can get so much more for less if you don't stay in a WDW hotel.

The way to get the prices to come down is to stop paying them. If everyone said, "The hell with it. We aren't paying it," the prices would come down immediately. Bam! Just likethat. :)

So long as we pay it, we have nobody to blame but ourselves.
With a weak economy and 2012 occupancy rates down to 79% (very low for WDW) it appears Disney has slowed down the rate of resort room increases. In recent years, price increases have been modest.

For example, the least expensive room at PORS in 2005 was $134/night during Value Season. Today, the least expensive room is $162/night, an average annual increase of 2.4%. Conversely, there are fewer "Value Season" nights in 2013 than there were in 2005, as WDW largely has been successful drawing in more guests during what used to be off season.

With an improving economy and increased attendance from Brazil and Argentina, it's possible that WDW might once again start to price resort rooms more aggressively.

I don't know why people have to be negative on here. This really has nothing to do with cigarettes....This is Disney not politics!People are allowed to post their opinions and I are that it is harder to find deals on Disney resorts than years past. Hopefully things turn around and we can start to see some of the cheaper rates/ better special offers come back.

And as people can post their opinions, they are also allowed to post their negative opinions. Nothing requires you to like those opinions.

Not an angry smoker. Never have smoked. In fact, I am a nurse on a floor that does surgery on people with lung problems. I just think it is a shame to get on here and look for ways to save money and new info on Disney and continue to see negative remarks against others. I enjoy reading about people's experiences with Disney and learning new things. People do not come on here to watch conversations "go sour" and see people rant about wasting money on cigarettes.

Think for yourselfer
Don't complain about prices you guys. Disney is wonderful. If you don't like it, don't go. More room for us. BLAH BLAH BLAH. Let's instead chat about every single review the DisneyfoodBlog posts. Or maybe we can only talk about our favorite WDW scents. Or what is the most underrated counter service back wall decorations.

Sarcasm obvious enough?

Prices are high. Some people think too high. That is OKAY to talk about. Good grief.

thats why i love the all star resorts lol...ill never stay at a deluxe unless i get an inheritance or something. If you can afford it, then by all means do it! the choices i made in my life let us go every two years for 8 or 9 days, sure id love to go every year and stay at a mod or deluxe but oh well. My family and I are just happy we can visit every two yrs with a beach trip in between yrs. Some people will never be able to go so i say take what ya can and run with it!

Just an FYI... Conversations go sour on here all the time. Sometimes things get back on track, sometimes they don't. We get our share of trolls same as an forum. Conversations can get pretty heated, as is the nature of a forum. The cigarette thing was just a story to illustrate a point. It was relevant to the conversation in a roundabout way. Not trying to scare you off but if you took offense to that and missed the point of the comment, only saw the the word "cigarette," this forum might not be the one for you. This thread isn't even heated.

What is the most underrated? Or, if you want to be negative and sour, which is the most overrated?
:p

For me it would have to be " Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe" I mean the theming is just awesome :D :D ;)

Lower your standards! Is it necessary to stay in a deluxe resort? Nope. I believe the world will still be spinning if you opt to a value resort. (It's like 1/4 of the cost)

Yes
Its basic economics, people make the decision on relative worth based on the amount of disposable income and how they want to allocate it. While right now I wont consider staying in one of the Latin American dictator suites in the Grand Floridian because I can be happy with spending less for another venue.

We stay onsite because I drive over 100 miles a day commuting. Getting up, having a variety of good meals available, walking a short distance and being delivered to our destination means a lot to us. Its vacation, not the daily mundane slog.

Of course there's disparity in the amount of money people have to spend, not everyone has the same abilities or have made the same choices, we just deal with reality. Disney makes decisions on price points all the time, they can't give it away for free because they and their cast members like to eat and not live backstage, nor if they charge enough to pay every cast member at least 100K a year.

While the deluxe resorts are priced high, they arebpriced for convenience and those who can afford it. We are not one them. We stayed at poly with 40% off for two us 2 years ago, great, and GF 2 years ago with fre upgrade, awesome. But this year it is back to the mods, por,, still expoensive, but within my price range. Its more than just a room, its an experience, theming, customer service, transportation. Its these thing you can't compare tonoffsite places, because they don't have them. Now food is totally diferent, way overpriced for what it is, but disneynhas a captive audience and know that most will not leave the parks to go eat, so they can command these prices, but they should increase thenquality. I'm stil eating because I dont want to leave the park or pay for a cab/ rental car its all in how one perceives it,
