My EVIL Plan

Disney did not close Carousel of Progress because it was popular or because they hate everything related to Walt. I know what I've seen over the years in Carousel lines: NO ONE. Just come to grips with the fact that it's closing...

Exactly..if the attraction was worht it (crouds etc) they would keep it open year round...apparently what YOU see is hardly what matters...numbers are important..and CoP doesnt bring them in...

They would do everything in their power to keep it open...if it were worth it to them....but as I am sure you could clearly see..it ISNT. A handfull of people (and trust me..its a handfull) sending letters and signing petitions didnt help horizons..didnt help toad...and is most definatly not going to save CoP....

I argee with Grizz. CoP's technology doesn't get old for me. I don't care how old or outdated some people say a ride may get! It never gets outdated in my opinon!

I can't really comment on the crowds because ONE: My past two visits were during the low seasons, and TWO: I made a note of trying to beat the crowds to CoP, so I always went on it near it's opening, so the crowds were a bit low when I went on. Of course on my 2000 trip I saw a crowd building up when I left Tommorowland. (Though I missed out on going on it because I didn't know my Keys of The Kingdom tour would run so long, plus at the time I thought CoP was one of the things we would go on...)

Thanks, Zeke! You're a pal. 9 out of 10 times CoP is open. And this winter break, there was AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE...in fact, they had to add an extra WEEK of operation and extended the 11-5 hours from 10:00 to 6 on some days, and 9-4 on another!! And the people loved it. Do I have to put up video as proof??? Come on....

Every other time I went to CoP, the crowds weren't long, until time went on before the doors open. Then the whole queue area after the turnsteils were full. Heck, that's about 130 people per every 5 minutes...which may not be the majority, but is still a whole lot.

You don't have to be a "Disney fan" to love CoP...I know a 14 year old teenager, who actually is more in the favour of Universal, but said that he loved CoP and rode it twice in January. Heck, you're a Disney nut if you visit the theme parks at all! :D

InterCot.Com and other websites prove it to be: "a very popular attraction at the park".... And I would like you to read some recent reports from mouseplanet - I selected these out of the whole letter:

"It appears that this past weekend, Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress was resurrected from Yesterland and once again spun its way into the hearts of Magic Kingdom visitors..."

"At a couple minutes after 11AM, the first group of Carousel visitors were ushered into the theatre."

"All around me I heard parents telling their children how important this show was. That they had seen it first at the NY World's Fair "way back in 1964" with THEIR parents when THEY were children. That they remember all of the words to the song. ."

"By the time the automatic doors closed, the entire theatre was full and the air was electric (pardon the pun) with anticipation and excitement."

"As the curtains were raised and the narrator began to speak, applause erupted from the crowd."

"And, to my amazement, as the theatre turned from late 19th century to early 20th century, I glimpsed the adjacent theatre -- completely full, too!!!!"

"After getting over the shock of seeing grandma in her virtual reality helmet, the audience ended the show with another round of enthusiastic applause."

"Additionally, keeping Walt Disney's Carousel of Progress open reminds visitors -- especially younger generations -- that Walt Disney was the name of a great man, not just a great corporation. "

CoP is still loved. So, it's the crowded season? Yeah, it is...but that doesn't mean it's not loved...;)

Well, excuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me ... you're an Eisner fan...I can see why you don't like CoP...

Huh??? That makes absolutly no sense.....

You think this is a PERSONAL thing against CoP? I have been being REALISTIC here....I have made it quite clear several times in this thread alone that I personally think CoP should stay just for its HISTORICAL aspect alone..but i dont SEE it happening.

Me being an Eisner fan has nothing to do with this thread... I'm sorry if you think it does....but you need to think more before making statments like that...

there are obviously two dichotomies in this argument that will never give in to the other...so we'll all just have to wait until Pressler busts out the wrecking ball...

I asked my father today...to see about the crowds...you all seem to say there is no one there!

So I asked: "Hey, Dad - Disney question for ya. When did you see Carousel of Progress without crowds?"
His response: "Never!"

Ok..and we always go during October and the Spring when it is LEAST crowded! CoP is a crowded attraction...we will see what happens if CoP opens next time...

Because the attraction is so darn expensive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They've wanted to close CoP since the mid-90s...and it was still as crowded as it was!

It costs more to keep TT running....so why dont they close THAT?

I am going to guess and say because its popular....

TT runs similar to those old slot car tracks from the 80's, it takes a LOT of juice to keep it running, not to mention the constant monitoring and maintenence on the ride vehicles.....its actually quite a headache...but they keep it open...

CoP..yes..its expensive...and if it were a more popular attraction..Disney would put up with it...

Before you get all hot and bothered..allow me to explain::

I agree, that when CoP started running on a seasonal schedual..it was crouded..but I stand by my statment that says that the ONLY reason it was crouded is because it WAS THE SEASON. I have been going to MK at least once a week since 1998..and I can count the # of times there was ever a CROUD at CoP on one hand. (off season). CoP has a LARGE underground following..but not large enough to save it...and thats where my being Realistic comes from...

OK...when I see the day that CoP has not many people..I will believe you. I like Seasonal Operation anyway...if only I KNEW when it was open...more in advance... Sorry...it's one of those "see to believe" type things...sorry, NowInc.

DEBATE OVER! Unless you have something more to add....lol

No one wins...I believe we both ended up where we started and we each made our own points ... :brick:
