OKAY....:D

in 1964...I would believe it WOULD be impressive...considering there was nothing better at the time...

Try to remember this is 2002 here....

Oh, please...thousands people still love 'Progress'...when they don't, then we can finish this discussion.

Thousands eh? Wow..such large numbers...especially considering thats a really low # for a day at MK....

Seriously, CoP doesnt leave a mark on anyone who isnt a fanatic...if it DID..why is it closed? If it was so popular..with EVERYONE (as you like to think) it would have had crouds all the time..and thus...been kept open.

The majority of the times I have ridden CoP...i have seen more people SLEEPING on it than actually paying attention (The A/C was most likley the thing that pulled them in)...

Face it...back in 1964...yes..it was AMAZING. It was the first ever theme park attraction ever built. It would leave a burn mark on ANYONES memory at that year...

2002..people who go to WDW for the first time...they are more likley to remember something else....

Hey, it's GREAT to remeber Walt...there is no better way.

Again...the majority of people who ride it wont think of Walt..since they would have no idea how much he had to do with it...

I personally think its historical value cannot be replaced or duplicated..but as always..im being realistic...

Ok, Now and Griz, you both have your points.
Now- CoP's technology is outdated and no longer impressive.
Griz- CoP was completely Walt's idea from start to finish and should be kept open just for that.

WHAT? UNIMPRESSIVE! I am VERY Impressed! I have never seen such a colobaroation of technolgoy ever used in a Disney attraction! It's magnificent! There ARE people who think this way...and we don't REALLY know what the majority of people like...for all that I know for sure...there may be no one on this forum!

Don't get me wrong I am for the Carousel al the way but the technology is losing its touch a bit IMHO.

<EDIT> also I meant compared to how impressive it seemed in '64 it isn't as impressive.

The question is: do enough people exist that love this ride enough that it's worth it to keep it open? I'd say no....I like it, but you have to try and please as many people as you can, and if that takes the removal of CoP for another ride that is as or more impressive, I'm all for it...

Especially if it'd be for a new/expanded space mountain.

But Grizzly...you are a disney fanatic like all of us:) Peeeeeeeersonally...I would like to see them move this attraction to Main Street. That seems to be where it belongs--I say take out the "future" scene, replace it with the scene that used to be there, and put it near the entrance to Main Street the way Walt designed it. Walt loved Main Street, so I think it belongs here. Instead of having reduced hours, I say quit having continuous shows. Have one showing every 45 minutes. That way everyone who wants to see it could, they wouldn't have shows with 3 people in the audience, and it'd open up room for a Space Mountain expansion. I always thought it would have been good at the end of the street where the Emporium is now...but that's not going to happen! Just my two cents...

Exactly..thats the frame of mind you have to maintain...not what WE would want..but what Disney would REALISTICALLY do...

I personally think if it stays..great...but I am a pessimest (duh), and thus my glass is half empty sort of thinking makes me not the most liked person on here...but SOMEONE has to be the conflicting point of view...

Compromise?

What do you think would be the possibility of Disney donating CoP to a museum? The quandry, as I see it, is that CoP has significant historical value, but is not interesting enough to be theme park attraction today.

After going through the new attraction at MGM that covers Walt's life and the history of Disney, my wife and I thought that Disney should either open a museum somewhere, or sponsor a large exhibit at some other museum. My wife was at WDW in Nov. of '71 and for several years after that. Seeing some of the old merchandise, the old ticket books (intact with A through E tickets), posters, etc. brought back a lot of memories for her.

So, I think a Disney museum would do very well.

It is interesting enough! :)

And that thing about it NOT BEING IMPRESSIVE...Heck, neither is IASW or POTC...they are just as old...and HAUNTED MANSION is aging 10x more than CoP (as far as how old it seems to be getting). Yet, many people here say that they never want HM to go away.

CoP should ALWAYS be in existence SOMEWHERE. It doesn't have to be WDW, yet here, it is still getting the full-capacity applause...some people here just can't hear it...

You just prooved exactly what we have been saying..that CoP isnt POPULAR..so why keep it? HM. PoTC and IASM get long lines at all times of the year...CoP only gets it during the ON season..which is why they only open it at those times.

Everytime I went to MK when CoP was open before its restricted schedual...it was the most deserted attraction in the park....

CoP has always had long lines. Check out PopKid's video from Early September...look how crowded it was! And in the previous Spring, when I visited, I could never get the seat I wanted!

Carousel of Progress has always been a popular attraction, until, of Course when 9/11 took place and the whole park was deserted....geez...

Then CoP must aufully be crowded on low seasons....

We have already discussed it here: SAVE THE CAROUSEL OF PROGRESS - and we have all (even CMs who RAN it, geez) have agreed that CoP is one of the most crowded attractions.

I guess you don't "look behind" yourself when everyone goes into the theater...:D

You know, NowInc, people DO watch those TV screens outside while they are waiting... ...and listen to the introduction...

I make a special note to ALWAYS see how many people are on an attraction with me...CoP has been close to empty 9 out of 10 times....I guess my vision must be bad...

Those screens outside..what about them? CoP is FAR from the most popualr attraction at MK..in fact..I will go out on a limb and say that its an attraction that most people (read: non disney nuts) care LEAST about. Even the name doesnt sound too appealing...the building looks boring...and most people breeze by it on thier way to SpaceMountain....
