I am SO sorry! I will be facing that in the near future. My little maltese is 13 and has severe arthritis and patella luxation. He moves very slowly, but still has lots of spirit. It is going to kill me when his time comes. My heart breaks for you.

Sorry to hear about your loss. I speak from experience when I say that it is very hard to make the decision to let them go. I lost my beautiful Cholcolate Lab to an ongoing disease process in 2002. She was only 7 years old and we just could not let her suffer any longer. It still hurts to this day. We have since "adopted" a dog from a rescue shelter and he is 1 1/2 years old and is an absolute terror, but we still like him. I hope your Mom considers getting another dog, they are good company (when they behave) and it would also keep your Mom busy with something to occupy her time.

Take care and remember it will get better with time.

So sorry for your loss, Nick . . . most of us really do feel that our pets are part of our families; and, it's hard to let go of any loved one. Remember the happy times and take comfort that your pet is no longer suffering.

Awww I'm sorry about your dog, my mum's cat passed away last Monday, she was very old and sick. I know what you are going through.

My condolences. As everyone one has mentioned it's more than loosing a pet. Just remember the great times and think that she's now at a happier place. Celebrate her life and all she's done!

I've gone through this ordeal before and it was tough. After 16 years with my cat and loosing him to old age and kidney failure...it was tough.

Take care.

I am terribly sorry-- I know the pain of losing a dog and fear that i may be losing my second dog soon....

it truly is like losing a friend-- the pain takes a long time to go away but is eventually replaced with happy memories. my heart goes out to you during this hard time-- but stay strong!

So sorry to hear this Nicky, my dog Tammy died in December last year aged 13 so I know what it's like. *big huggles*

Last Christmas was so peculiar - not having her padding around trying to eat the wrapping paper (Yes, still at 13!). I kept looking around to find her, thinking I saw her and even at one point throwing some toast crust on the floor expecting her to run over and eat it!
I haven't been home at all since January 3rd this year now because I don't really have a reason or a need to anymore.

I have one great photo that just sums her up totally:

She did like a bit of a drink

I feel your loss. If your not a pet lover you can't explain to others how the loss of a longtime pet hits you. We just lost our silverhaired persian cat after 15 years. We bought "JAZZ" with some of our wedding money. The day after we got back from WDW, we went and got him. Our kids are 14 and 12, and they only knew life existing with him. Life lesson learned for them and us, but like your pain, it doesn't make any easier. I might take a photo of "JAZZ" and put him on leave a legacy. May be weird to some, but closure for us. Thanks for letting me talk on your thread. Pixie dust and wishes for you and your family.
