My Disneyland vs. WDW Opinion...what's yours?

No flaming anyone in here...I just got back from a few days at Disneyland (my first visit) and can FINALLY put an informed comparison between the two. These are just opinions and nothing more, nothing less.

First off...let me say that people complain and think that DCA is bad...well, it's not. It's not a perfect park by any means...but it's not a bad park and, to be honest, I had a more enjoyable time at DCA than I did Disneyland.

Let's start with Disneyland since it can be most easily compared to the Magic Kingdom.

Main Street USA (DL) vs. Main Street USA (WDW)

No comparison whatsoever. Disneyland's seems cheap compared to its WDW counterpart. The one shining thing about Disneyland's Main Street is the little sitting area near the bakery.
The castle is a joke. Sure, it may hold nostalgic value but nostalgia aside...Sleeping Beauty's shack is nothing compared to Cinderella's. Unless you're on Main Street looking at it...you can't see it from anywhere in the park!

Tomorrowland DL vs. Tomorrowland WDW

The architecture of DL's Tomorrowland is better. WDW's went in the right direction with the Jules Verne look...but didn't pull it off well at all.

Star Tours fits in well...so that's a huge plus.
The Astro Orbiter right in the front doesn't work and seems like it was plopped there without any rhyme or reason.
No TTA? *shrug* I think I'd rather have a vacant lagoon than tracks unused about my head.
Why is the Imagination pavilion here?
I understand why they placed Space Mountain where they did but WDW's Space Mountain ride building is a LOT grander. The ride...well, I didn't know much about the Space Mountain refurb but I was under the assumption that they gutted it and started over with inversions and a launch (I have no idea where I got that from). I checked out Deb's review online and it said that the basic layout remained the same...so I got disappointed. After riding it...they don't need inversions...they don't need ANYTHING...I loved it...and want this at WDW! Space Mountain WDW is laughable after riding the DL version.
Buzz is better at DL due to the fact that you have free reign with the lasers.
The monorail going through it was a nice touch...but again, now out of place "theme-wise" due to the Year of a Million Dreams wrap on the trains.
Overall...aside from a few "out of place" attractions...DL's Tomorrowland is better.

Fantasyland DL vs. Fantasyland WDW

Matterhorn...what is everybody raving about this attraction for? It's a rough-riding lackluster attraction set in a mountain. Boo on all accounts. I, for one, am glad that WDW does not have it...save the room for something else.

DL definitely takes the cake as far as dark rides go. Alice, Pinocchio, and TOAD!

Storybook Land Canal Boats...um...what? That was the most pointless attraction in the park.

IASW was closed...but the exterior is far better than WDW's version.

Toontown vs. Mickey's Toontown Fair.

Honestly, I don't think this was even a match. Again, The Magic Kingdom's version is a joke.
Roger Rabbit's Car-Toon spin was fun (and a bit of a workout LOL ).

New Orleans Square vs. Liberty Square.

Well, due to the fact that Pirates is located here...it's 2 big names vs. 1. Overall I like the feel of Liberty Square much more.

After hearing how much better Pirates is in DL...I can finally say that I agree with it. While WDW's version is good...it doesn't compare and it the "Curse of the Black Pearl" really followed the storyline of the DL version much more than what is in the WDW version.

I haven't been on the WDW version since the revamp...but I gotta say that aesthetically, the WDW's version is MUCH better. If the WDW version has the floating Leota, and the bride section...on TOP of the stairs...then WDW's is better all around (with the exception of the FAR superior stretching effect in DL).

Frontierland DL vs. Frontierland WDW

That's "Big Thunder Mountain?" It looks like "Lil Thunder Mountain!" The ride itself was about the same, no better, no worse.

In my opinion, the Splash Mountain in WDW is far better than the DL version. I will admit that it's placement in DL is better (Critter Country over Frontierland)

No CBJ???? Booooooo

Adventureland DL vs. Adventureland WDW

Let me just say that I hate that the Magic Carpets of Aladdin are placed in the middle of the beautiful lush landscaping of Adventureland in WDW. Big minus in my book.

Adventureland in DL seems more "immersive." The Jungle Cruise is better in WDW (although I loved the pirahna). The Tiki Room is better in DL. The preshow with the Tiki Gods is pretty cool too.

And, Adventureland is DL has an overlooked attraction that is hardly talked about...it's called Indiana Jones and the Temple of the Forbidden Eye. It blows Dinosaur away makes Dinosaur almost laughable. It's hard to imagine that Dinosaur came AFTER Indy. (I'll admit it...when the blowdarts were shooting out of the wall, I ducked)

Now...Wishes is a fantastic "nighttime spectacular" but it is slaughtered by Remember. Tinkerbell is far better at DL and I hope the "she" comes to WDW.

People have always told me that Fantasmic is better in DL and I just can't imagine it. So, there are some people on here that have probably been reading this waiting for me to comment on it.

Yes, the Jolly Roger was incredible and, IMO the highlight of the show.
The "grandness" of the show itself just didn't live up to it.
I'm a huge Dumbo fan and I hated the "Pink Elephants on Parade" and I love Pinocchio but I thought that scene was pointless.
Why were Ursula and Chernabog the only ones shown being "called" by the witch...but then Maleficent shows up??? Jafar as the snake was much more impressive than Kaa.

Steamboat Willie was much more impressive than the WDW version.

Sorry Fantasmic DL'ers...but it didn't sway me into thinking that the DL version was better than the WDW version. I'd love to see the Jolly Roger replace the Pocahontas scene...but overall, WDW's is superior.

So, is DL better than the Magic Kingdom? Attraction-wise...yes. Layout-wise? No. There are more attractions (oh yeah, the Nemo subs are better than the Epcot version...but the wait is way too long) but the layout isn't as nice, it's not as grand, all of the queues are just unthemed and outside (with a few exceptions) and it doesn't have that, "I'm not just in an amusement park" feel because of it. DL suffers due to lack of space...and that is basically the reason why I can't say that I prefer it over the Magic Kingdom. (Hey, I guess I like things bigger :lookaroun ) The Magic Kingdom has fewer attractions, but the castle is huge and "magical," Frontierland is laid out really well and the flow of the park just works better overall. It's more than just the attractions (which DL crushes the Magic Kingdom).

Now, onto DCA...

I'm not saying this is my favorite park...but I'd say that it's definitely better than DHS!
It's a little "jumbled" and not easy to navigate.

Tower of Terror is not better in DCA. The building aesthetics are FAR better at the Studios as is that actual ride. The mirror was a nice effect and it definitely caught me off guard when it didn't "roll out" into the drop chamber. The "5th Dimension" room is part of the whole experience though.

Monsters Inc. I liked it. It's nothing special but it was nice to see a new dark ride. I wish the animatronics were better though. It would've been nice to see mouths move when they talked. The Randall effect was awesome.

Muppets is Muppets...nothing new here. The waiting area is better in DHS but the entry of DCA's is better.

Grizzly River Run was pretty good...a lot better than Kali...actually, Kali just stinks

Soarin' is Soarin'...much nicer area in DCA.

Paradise Pier...I don't know whether to really like it or really hate it. California Screamin' is an awesome coaster. That ride just doesn't let up (much better at night too!). The Sun Wheel is a nice spin on an old classic...I liked it, but I wish they had done at least one FULL rotation without stopping!!! Then you get to Mulholland Madness. Boring. Primeval Whirl, even if the theming is horrible, is at least fun when it spins... The Orange Stinger? Whuh? Maliboomer...huh? The Zephyr thing... Whassat now? You had two attractions with nice Disney flair to them...and then just plop up off-the-shelf rides that you can ride in any amusement park or traveling fair!

A Bug's Land was cute...but the theater under the Tree of Life works a lot better.

We had dinner in The Vineyard Room and had great food...just way overpriced for what you get.

Well, that's about it...overall I had a great time...DL was really crowded because it was spring break in CA but aside from that..it was fun and it was nice to finally be able to experience the things that I read about on a daily basis!

I've always said that if Walt wasn't dead, the castle would have been demolished and rebuilt long ago. I really detest when people guess what Walt would do, mostly because that argument is usually used to support museum-wishes, but at the risk of becoming one of those people that dares guess what a dead man would think...I don't think he would ever stood for WDW's castle being so much more grand and beautiful than Disneyland's.

I'll admit the feeling of nostalgia is pretty high with it, knowing it's the same castle that's been there for 50+ years. Walt may have been nostalgic about the past (hence the theme of Main Street to begin with), but he wasn't nostalgic about the parks. We would have seen a much more intricate, beautiful castle at Disneyland before Epcot ever saw the light of day, I truly believe.

Could they add on to the castle? I agree with the nostalgia part... but would building a few tall spires or some other architectural addition be viable, while still keeping the genuine main body of the building?

You want to talk about an UPROAR if they were to even lay one finger on DL's Castle?!?!?!
It's one thing to have the Christmas snow layover - but to think about adding on to the "original"...
That would be suicide on Disney's part - by anyone's standards. Unless they deem it structurally unsound - it will never be "redone".

I don't understand. It does do one full rotation without stopping, at least when I went on it.

It did go around...but not fully. It went about 3/4 around...We know because when we started and when we stopped weren't in the same spots. (It may have been because it was so crowded and the line was so long)

i think DL is better.

people always act like its small and dirty but the fantasy land is better, it still has toad, the matterhorn, club 33, better pirates, better buzz..i could go on forever baby.

not to mention Walt actually went to DL!

Yes, as the first poster talked about there would be uproar. However he was talking about rebuilding the castle. Agreeing with him, a total demolishment of the castle would probably never happen. I was wondering if an architectural addition would actually be feasible (could the building even handle it?).

Club 33 isn't really a bonus if you're an Average Joe like the majority of us. And whilst DL still has Mr Toad, we retain the Peoplemover, CBJ and COP.

Disneyland was however a victim of its own popularity. Dirty motels and tacky souvenir shops popped up all around it, ruining the nearby area and severely limiting expansion. When Walt planned WDW, he bought up huge amounts of land so he could prevent the same happening again. WDW is bigger and better... the lessons learned from DL could be implemented to improve the park-going experience. WDW is Disneyland V2.0. :)

I really don't agree with your last statement. It was all dreamed up by Walt imo it doesn't matter if he visited there or not. I think WDW is much better, I love the magic it has and its authentic feel. I also feel very attached to WDW because I have visited it more than DL and DCA. My reason for visiting WDW more than the other two is because my like for it is more. I feel WDW did everything DL did, cleaned up its mistakes and made it better. Just my opinion.

Interesting take on DL vs WDW. As a WDW vet who first visited DL in 2002 (and again in 2003, and twice in 2006), I can appreciate your point of view. Here's my reaction to some of your thoughts...

No comparison whatsoever. Disneyland's seems cheap compared to its WDW counterpart. The one shining thing about Disneyland's Main Street is the little sitting area near the bakery.

I completely, albeit respectfully, disagree. MK's Main Street has essentially become one large World of Disney store. DL's at least still has the Magic Shop and *gasp* the Main Street Cinema. I'll also lump the railroad into this one, and say that the RR in DL is way better. I love the Dino scene, and the entire effect is just better.

I missed Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln during the 50th, but I love the exhibit in there and the hilarious Steve Martin movie. Exposition Hall at MK is really a forgotten area, and DL utilizes their space much better, IMO.

Tomorrowland DL vs. Tomorrowland WDW
Why is the Imagination pavilion here?
The Imagination pavilion as it exists in Epcot does not exist in DL. HISTA "fits" because the Wayne Szalinski is an inventor, therefore, futuristic (I know, I know).

After riding it...they don't need inversions...they don't need ANYTHING...I loved it...and want this at WDW! Space Mountain WDW is laughable after riding the DL version. Buzz is better at DL due to the fact that you have free reign with the lasers.
I agree with both of these statements. I do wish there were more traditional hills and drops in DLs new Space Mountain, though. Buzz also has the bonuses available when the target is illuminated, and the best touch for me, free pictures emailed to your family and friends.

Matterhorn...what is everybody raving about this attraction for? It's a rough-riding lackluster attraction set in a mountain.
I understand your opinion on this one. I enjoyed the Matterhorn; however, it certainly pales in comparison to E:E. DL locals are very protective of classic DL, though, and the queues for this attraction are very steady from what I saw during my trips. Locals ride over and over because they love it, and it seems their kids are raised to revere it, because I saw large amounts of all ages in the queues for this during my trip.

DL definitely takes the cake as far as dark rides go. Alice, Pinocchio, and TOAD!
Storybook Land Canal Boats...um...what? That was the most pointless attraction in the park.
DL's Fantasyland is far superior. I love Pinocchio, Alice, and of course, Mr. Toad. I also prefer DL's layout and styling, and I love the lack of FP in DL's Fantasyland. Getting to all the attractions is much more simple and enjoyable this way.

Now, as for Storybookland...I love this attraction! No, I can't exactly pinpoint why, but when I read your opinion, I silently gasped in horror . I love the simple charm in this attraction. I also love the Casey Jr. Train

Toontown vs. Mickey's Toontown Fair.
Agreed again! DL's Toontown has a bunch of hidden gems and cool ways of interacting that are so cool. Love Roger Rabbit, and I love the Jolly Trolley (is that back in commission?).

New Orleans Square vs. Liberty Square.
While I love NOS's uniqueness, I do find myself missing Liberty Square while in DL.

I also agree about POTC. The attraction is far better in DL (even better in DLP). I find the queue very lackluster (and hot!) though, compared to MK.

I like the external theming and facade of DL's HM; however, with the latest upgrades to MK's, there is no question for me that MK has the superior HM.

In my opinion, the Splash Mountain in WDW is far better than the DL version. I will admit that it's placement in DL is better (Critter Country over Frontierland)
I agree that MK's Splash is way better. I disagree about placement in Critter Country; however. For me, Critter Country as a "land" serves no purpose. It says to me that there was no room for Splash and CB (grr, Pooh - CBJ closed in DL just before my first trip in 2002...very disappointing) in Frontierland (which is practically non-existent, and very poorly laid out, in DL), so put an annex next to NOS and call it a land.

Adventureland in DL seems more "immersive." The Jungle Cruise is better in WDW (although I loved the pirahna). The Tiki Room is better in DL. The preshow with the Tiki Gods is pretty cool too.
Agreed on all counts. I love DL's Adventureland (although it gets so easily congested). Seeing the original Tiki Room in DL really makes me want to skip MK's version (which I used to think was okay...after seeing the original again, I can't see MK's tikis). I also agree about the preshow in DL - almost as good as the attraction for me!

Now...Wishes is a fantastic "nighttime spectacular" but it is slaughtered by Remember. Tinkerbell is far better at DL and I hope the "she" comes to WDW.
I could not agree with this statement any more wholeheartedly! The effects blow Wishes out of the water, the inclusion of classic and current attractions is awesome, and for me, Julie Andrews = Disney magic. The first time I saw Remember during the 50th, I literally cried. Just amazing. Wishes is fine and all, but after seeing Remember, Wishes doesn't have the same effect on me.

I appreciate both Fantasmics, but I'm not going to lie, I like sitting down in DHS . Truthfully, though, it's impossible to get anywhere near HM or Splash (and Adventureland, it's crazy) due to traffic from about a half hour prior to Remember to park closing. Nighttime entertainment shuts down that half of the park.

On to DCA...
It's a little "jumbled" and not easy to navigate.
There's also fairly large gaps where there's literally no theming or anything to look at.

Tower of Terror is not better in DCA. The building aesthetics are FAR better at the Studios as is that actual ride. The mirror was a nice effect and it definitely caught me off guard when it didn't "roll out" into the drop chamber. The "5th Dimension" room is part of the whole experience though.
I was extremely disappointed with DCA's ToT. I could not wait to experience what 10 years worth of technology brought to a "new and improved" ToT. Unfortunately, all it brought was a mirror and lost the 5th dimension. Oh, and the queue was a disappointment as well.

Monsters Inc. I liked it. It's nothing special but it was nice to see a new dark ride. I wish the animatronics were better though. It would've been nice to see mouths move when they talked. The Randall effect was awesome.
I LOVE this attraction. For me, it brought the classic, immersive feeling of a dark ride to the 21st century. The Randall AA is very cool, as is the Roz effect at the end. I would have rather seen this attraction go into DHS than the Laugh Floor invade MK.

I enjoyed your take on DL vs WDW, and it was interesting to see where our opinions differed. Glad you had a good time!

To me, the biggest one is Remember. Just saw it in Feb. Unbelievable. To be honest, Wishes dropped quite a few notches after seeing it. I do think that DL's Fantasmic is superior. The ship and the ending make a huge difference. I find New Orleans Square is more immersive as well.

I was mainly basing my comparison of Main Street on aesthetics...the uniqueness of the stores is better at DL...but the look of it didn't do it for me.

Storybook Land has hope...and the idea of the attraction is great...it wasn't pulled off well (IMO). You basically go up...turn around and see the same models...and pull back into the dock. Make the models have some "magic" to them. The Casey Jr. Train is a nice touch and thought it was really well placed. (I didn't ride it though).

The HISTA fitting into Tomorrowland is a stretch. It MAY have fit in better if it was part of Innoventions because they could've said that it was a new technology coming out and a demonstration is going on. *gulp* Did I just have a good idea of where HISTA would fit in that didn't have to do with Imagination?!?!?!?

I didn't want to compare The Matterhorn to Everest. That's been done...and not a fair comparison. Sure, they both have a Yeti and both are rollercoasters in a mountain...but that would be like putting a Lamborghini up against a Model T. The nostalgic people would pick the Model T even though the Lamborghini is a better machine and appeals to a much larger population. I was hoping the Matterhorn would live up to the likes to Space and Thunder...and it fell REALLY short. Again, the idea is great...I'd love to have a bobsledding coaster, but I didn't feel like I was on a bobsled at all...I felt like I was on a rough riding coaster that was extremely lackluster including the water splashdown at the end.

I agree with the PotC queue...much better at WDW. Actually, the majority of the queues stink in DL. They are basically outside which begs people to cut in line because they can easily hop the chains. We waiting 90 minutes for Nemo because people would just call their friends when they got to the front. Nobody stopped them...and it happened in front of 2 CM's! We counted...we saw one guy in line...and 7 jumped in when he got close!

The exterior of the DL Haunted Mansion works better in its land than WDW's Haunted Mansion but as a single attraction...I prefer the WDW's much better.

Critter Country does seem like some made up place because they didn't know what to do with certain attractions...however...it is a "land" now...and the theme of the land is based on "critters." Splash Mountain as an attraction has NOTHING to do with the old west. It DOES however...involve critters...MANY critters. If "Critter Country" must exist...Splash Mountain should be located there.

I loved Monsters Inc. (Don't get me wrong) It was really nice to see an "old school" Disney attraction again. I would love to see it in Pixar Place at DHS also. I just think, in this day and age, it would've added so much if the AA's moved their mouths.

Oh, something I really thought was cool (yet simple) was the monorail...THE WINDOWS WERE DOWN!

Hey, I was just at DL a couple of days ago too. I was there on Wednesday and Saturday. I've been there before, but it was a few years ago.

First off...let me say that people complain and think that DCA is bad...well, it's not. It's not a perfect park by any means...but it's not a bad park and, to be honest, I had a more enjoyable time at DCA than I did Disneyland.

Well, DCA does have its charms. I like the Grizzly peak area, the condor flats area, and the Hollywood section. My main gripe with the park is that there is a great lack of attractions for me. The rides at Paradise Peir are unappealing or too intense for me, and the bugs land rides are too kiddie. Plus some of the theming is jubled around and the main theme of the park is just too weak for a full fledged park. Oh well, just IMHO.

I agree. But the new paint job looks great though.

Tomorrowland DL vs. Tomorrowland WDW

The architecture of DL's Tomorrowland is better. WDW's went in the right direction with the Jules Verne look...but didn't pull it off well at all.

Eh, I disagree. The avenue of the planets kicks anything at DL's tomorrowland's tail. I love the Buck Rogers look.

I agree, DL's Space Mountain was incredible. WDW's is simply pathetic in comparison.

Fantasyland DL vs. Fantasyland WDW

Matterhorn...what is everybody raving about this attraction for? It's a rough-riding lackluster attraction set in a mountain. Boo on all accounts. I, for one, am glad that WDW does not have it...save the room for something else.

Which side did you ride? The Tomorrowland side was way too rough for me, but the Fantaseyland side is just right IMO.

Storybook Land Canal Boats...um...what? That was the most pointless attraction in the park.

Eh, its made for kids. What can ya say?

Toontown vs. Mickey's Toontown Fair.

Honestly, I don't think this was even a match. Again, The Magic Kingdom's version is a joke.
Roger Rabbit's Car-Toon spin was fun (and a bit of a workout LOL ).

I agree completly WDW's toontown is TERRIBLE. They really could use all that 20k space to expand into somthing similar. Its just a waste!

New Orleans Square vs. Liberty Square.

Well, due to the fact that Pirates is located here...it's 2 big names vs. 1. Overall I like the feel of Liberty Square much more.

I agree, but New Orleans Square has tons of more theming which I like.

After hearing how much better Pirates is in DL...I can finally say that I agree with it. While WDW's version is good...it doesn't compare and it the "Curse of the Black Pearl" really followed the storyline of the DL version much more than what is in the WDW version.

When I first went on it, I couldn't believe how much better than WDW's it was. Longer, more complete, just a better attraction. Plus the movie tie-ins were very tasefully done.

They're both equal in my opinion. I don't prefer one over the other.

Adventureland DL vs. Adventureland WDW

Let me just say that I hate that the Magic Carpets of Aladdin are placed in the middle of the beautiful lush landscaping of Adventureland in WDW. Big minus in my book.

Agreed.

Adventureland in DL seems more "immersive." The Jungle Cruise is better in WDW (although I loved the pirahna). The Tiki Room is better in DL. The preshow with the Tiki Gods is pretty cool too.

The torches are amazing. And I was amazed to see such large crowds at the tiki room. Its unreal!

BEST. ATTRACTION. EVER. Bottom line, end of discussion. They need to bring it to WDW NOW!!!!!

Tower of Terror is not better in DCA. The building aesthetics are FAR better at the Studios as is that actual ride. The mirror was a nice effect and it definitely caught me off guard when it didn't "roll out" into the drop chamber. The "5th Dimension" room is part of the whole experience though.

Agreed. The exterior just looks cute in comparison to WDW's version.

Monsters Inc. I liked it. It's nothing special but it was nice to see a new dark ride. I wish the animatronics were better though. It would've been nice to see mouths move when they talked. The Randall effect was awesome.

I waited 40 minuites in a very unthemed qeue for this ride. I thought it was good, but not worth it. And yes, the animatronics are very underwhelming.

Soarin' is Soarin'...much nicer area in DCA.

And better qeue for that matter.

I agree, none of the rides appealed to me at all. That's why I didn't ride them.

Well, that's about it...overall I had a great time...DL was really crowded because it was spring break in CA but aside from that..it was fun and it was nice to finally be able to experience the things that I read about on a daily basis!

Glad you enjoyed it.

If I could take the BEST parts of each park and combine them I'd be really happy. Of course my opinion of the BEST parts would differ from a lot of other folks. I could never choose between the castles. I love them both. DL's is certainly not a SHACK, but WDW's is more IMPRESSIVE. DL's is more beautiful to me.

I take DL's tomorrowland and put in the NEMO SUBS, COP and the PEOPLEMOVER, move the astro-orbitor up top of the PM. I'd move anything worth keeping from INNOVENTIONS and put it in the old arcade.

I'd keep NOS, but put in the upgrades from WDW HM. I'd also prefer the CUE and entrance from WDW's POC.

I'd keep DLs Adventureland intact. No, put the treehouse back to being SFR.

I'd keep DL's Fantasyland the same, but enlarge it, add POOH. And I LOVE the MATTERHORN!!

I'd keep DL TOONTOWN and add GOOFY'S BARNSTORMER a well.

I'd keep WDW's Frontierland, but keep DL's Golden Horsehoe Review.

DL Railroad is better, as is the MONORAIL going through the park.

I like both MAINSTREETS, but has a special fondness for DLs.

It's really tough to compare the two parks, but for me, DL wins. I like the smaller scale, with more attractions. I love seeing the Matterhorn and the Monorail in the park. I love Casey JR and Storybookland. I love Fantasmic being in DL. I love STAR TOURS and INDIANA JONES being in the same park. I love the original TIKI ROOM. And I love eating at the Bengal BBQ. And the fact that the SUBS are BACK.

I am stunned the OP didn't like the Matterhorn, Storybookland, Sleeping Beauty's Castle or the original Fantasmic! Just goes to show we're all different!

I am taking my first trip to Disneyland in 18 days! This is the most exciting thread I've read here in weeks. I was apprehensive to bring up the DL topic among WDW fans.

I'm the classic WDW freak that visits once or twice a year, so going to this foreign Disneyland place is really exciting.

Since some of you just recently went, I'd love to hear any touring tips you may have for this WDW veteran. We'll be there from Saturday to Wednesday, with some side trips to San Diego and perhaps L.A. (if some TV taping tickets come through). Otherwise, each night will be spent at the Grand Californian. Just got all the documents yesterday from Costco Travel.

We have reservations for Blue Bayou, Storyteller's Cafe, and Napa Rose. Any other "must eat" places?

Anyone have any favorite "hidden" Disneyland spots like the ones we treasure in Disney World (like the first time you tried Beverly in Club Cool)?

We do plan on taking the Walk in Walt's Footsteps tour, and just enjoy the people watching. I'm trying to set my Disney expectations lower for that "Disney immersion" feeling, though I do hope that staying at the GCH will foster that.

I definitely prefer WDW over DL, even though I live in California. There are a lot of differences between the two. However I think that DL only has a few things that are better than WDW. Space mountain is way better in DL than WDW, but I don't really like the layout of tomorrowland in DL and POTC is way better in DL than WDW. Other than those two things I really prefer WDW.

As for California Adventure, I don't really like that park, yet every time I go to DL I always pay for the park hopper because my all time fav ride is TOT, which is again better in WDW. I like a few things in DCA, but mostly I just go for TOT and California Screamin. Other than that I probably wouldn't go to the park. Although I do like how it isn't usually very busy so it is a nice escape from the huge crowds at DL. I think in time that park will become much better.

I definitely am WDW fan moreso than a DL fan!

This was my first tour in any Disney theme park, and my sister and I really enjoyed it. We did it back in 2003, and the tour ended with a lunch up in the Disney gallery. Does anyone know where they do the lunch now that the Disneyland Dream Suite is up there?

Anyway, have a great time on your trip! Oh, and I recommend the Carnation Cafe on Main Street for breakfast. It's tucked away a bit, and you can relax in the quaint atmosphere and watch people storming down Main Street in the morning! One of my favorite places to eat in DL.

The Matterhorn didn't age well I guess. People that have been going on it since they were kids probably love it for the nostalgic feel. It's a very uncomfortable ride that basically just spirals downward and ends in the splashdown.

Again...Storybookland must be a nostalgic thing.

Sleeping Beauty's Castle as the lone castle may have been great...but compared to what WDW has...it's nothing. (When I said "shack" I meant a shack compared to the WDW version).

I didn't say that I didn't like the original Fantasmic...I enjoyed it a lot. As an overall attraction, I prefer the WDW version but the DL version definitely has it's pluses.

I'm the classic WDW freak

:)

Wait...I thought that was me! :lookaroun
