I just watched it on ABC, and I'll rate it about a 7-8 on a scale of 1 to 10. Definitely far better than "Muppets From Space" but not nearly as good as the originals. I also think that Ashanti did a much better job than she was given credit for by some. Overall, I have to say: Well done Disney, even with the cut-outs.

PS- Someone's gonna get witch-slapped!

I enjoyed it, it definitely is different from the original movie but still good!

One of my favorite quotes was Kermit in the club going, "I wish I had a brain so I could understand what's cool about hanging out at trendy night clubs" lol!

Having read the original story of The Wizard of Oz, I will say that it was nice that they followed the story closer than the classic film to a degree(silver shoes from the Witch of the East) and certain things were done pretty clever(using the rats as both Munchkins and as the mice that help get Dorothy and the Lion out of the Poppy Fields). I also liked how they handled the Witch of the West trying to send the wolves after Dorothy & Co(in the original, all wolves were killed by Tin Woodsman, Crows sent after that were killed by scarecrow. In this, there were funny "Wolves are on a ski vacation" excuse and similar for everything else she wanted to send). It wasn't the best Muppets movie I've seen, but it wasn't awful either. Overall, I enjoyed it, but I found "Toto the King Prawn" to be just a little bit out of place most of the time. He did get some good one-liners in though. Also, it was alot of fun watching it with my kids and seeing them enjoy themselves, that really made it more worth watching than anything else.

I think Toto was the best part of that movie...
And I agree with MerHearted's favourite quote. :D It's on a DISNEY network, for Pete's sake... ;)

Toto: What do these knobs do?
Tin Thing: Nothing, those are my nipples.

I do agree that that was funny, but I found it totally un-Muppetish. Also that Toto (aka Pepe) was saying that he was sexy.
It was not as good as what I had hoped, no 'Follow the Yellowbrick Road', no 'We're Off to the See the Wizard', etc.

It was good to see the Muppets again and the movies wasn't all that bad. It won't win an Oscar, but then I really don't think thats what they were aiming for.

I think it was cute. Could've been better though. Most of the humor was pretty funny. I liked the flying monkeys, and I loved Kermit's inside joke "Oh, the great wizard of Oz huh? Any relation to Frank Oz?"
But the Nipples joke was uncalled for. Very un-muppetish.

Does anyone know when the Nielsen Ratings for last night come out? I'd like to know before deciding on whether or not to continue on my Muppets DC project.

I loved Kermit's remark there. :D

As for the un-Muppetish statement, there were many of these style of jokes on "Muppets Tonight" back when they were reintroduced to ABC in the mid or late 90s.

You have to remember that the Muppets were designed for adults, not children originally. Personally, I saw nothing wrong with that joke. Check out this article from the Wall Street Journal: Click Here

I'm not a fan of the joke, per se, but I never said I disagreed or didn't expect it. But that's a great article, thanks.

Sorry Grizz, I wasn't questioning your reaction to the joke, I was just commenting on the past history of these types of jokes from the last show (as you stated).

Grrrrr... Does anyone have it on VHS or preferably DVD? I tried recording it last night, but it doesn't seem to be working. Thanks!

To those who thought the nipple joke was unfunny or "un-muppet"...... you guys must not have been original fans of the muppets. They used to have official bios for the characters and let's just say that Animal and his band are really, really "un-muppet"ish :animwink:

The Muppets were never meant to be "for kids only"

Jim himself wanted them geared more towards adults
