As much as I wanted to enjoy it, I sadly must admit that I was pretty disapointed. :brick:

I guess after growing up watching the original muppet movies though, it's difficult to accept a uummm new twist like this...I dunno...I don't really know what to think of it I guess? :veryconfu

Man, that was a disappointment. Ashanti did the worst acting I've seen since Lil Bow-wow in "Just like Mike". What they need to do is go back to Muppet movies about the Muppets not some stupid spoof. Think of "Muppets take Manhattan", "The Great Muppet Caper".. Those were movies based on the Muppets, and they were great. Also the voices of Fozzie, Gonzo, Kermit, well all of them really, didn't sound right. That was one sorry movie. Oh, what ever happened to Ruff, or Ralph (I can't remember his name, he was the dog that played the piano) I didn't see him in the movie? Now that I think about it, I also don't remember him being in Muppets 3-D. What's up with that?:veryconfu

I thought that the movie was hilarious.
The Good Witch of the South? Now where do we have to go? Tomorrowland? Adventureland? Candyland?!?!
I really hope that enough people watched for Disney to take note and keep the Muppets in action.

I thought it could have been much better. I was disappointed at all the inappropriate inuendos that were made. I was watching it with my young daughter. Nipples on Tin Man? The word "sexy" was mentioned to describe several things, the seductive chicken? The movie in MGM doesn't have to stoop to that level to make everyone laugh. I kept thinking, "wow, this is Disney?"

*Looking over Munchkinland* Pepe- "It is a small world after all..."

That, and several other quotes were REALLY funny, but the movie overall was more for little kids, but even if, I know the Muppets do things for both little kids and adults, but this one in the first hour was good...but then it went downhill. Ashanti was absolutely HORRIBLE. I HATEd how she acted and how she did things in it. She REALLY brought it down.

So, overall, I would give it a 3.1 out of 5.0

I am a huge Muppet fan. I love the muppets. I watched the movie last night and was just praying that nobody in the younger generations sat down to see the muppets for the first time in their life, and had to experience that. It was a TOTAL let down for me. I laughed at like two things. Frank Oz did the voices WAY better than this guy. Heck, Fozzie sounded like Miss Piggy several times - Frank seperated them better. Also, Kermit and Statler (?) sounded exactly the same - Jim Henson seperated their voices better as well.

Ashante was not appropriate playing Dorothy, in my opinion. There were some subtle adult-oriented puns and jokes, to keep the attention of the grown-ups, but the overall scripting was still way too boring. The old Muppets had personalities (especially Kermit), and had slapstick humor and spur-of-the-moment things. It felt like the show dragged on and on. Usually Muppet shows are fast-paced and energetic. This one had LOTS and LOTS of dead time where there was no dialogue, or stupid dialogue. I even think I heard Toto, when he was first on the cell phone as her "agent", say, 'don't mess with my $h!t, ok' - sounded like it at least.

I REALLY REALLY was hoping to be entertained, but it depresses me to have watched that movie. I can only hope that if they try to do the Muppet Show again, they stick to the old style with slapstick, and fast-paced dialogue and Kermit making funny faces and cracking sarcastic jokes!

yeah, I made the same comment. Those parts comedically, were funny, but the suductive chicken went WAYYYYYYYYYY too far. That part was really bad.

Along w/ the nipple comment that pushed it over the edge. What was Disney thinking going that low in a family movie? As for the movie itself the only things I liked being a true OZ fan were the glasses for the emrald city & the SILVER shoes. Thank you Disney for at least going back to the book for that much. These things made me at least slighty enjoy it. Which really doesn't say much for it.

Did anyone catch Kermits line " you mean Frank Oz" . Also, anyone remember Ralph the piano playing dog?? Who else thinks Fozzie screaming sounded just like Miss Piggy??

I thought it was simple horrid. I enjoyed the Muppet movies..i.e. Christmas Carol, etc., but this was just plan BORING!!!!!! As for the voices..face it, no one can replace the voices we are use to; but at least make the characters sound somewhat different. I also thought some of the jokes were way out of order............the only good thing I can say about this movie was when it ended!!!!!!!!!!

I have to agree, it was terrible. Ashanti just cannot act. Risking her life in a twister over a PRAWN?

And where was the singing? She sang once in the beginning, once in the end. Niether songs were memorable. I really would have loved to hear some modernized versions of the classic Wizard of Oz songs.

I *LOVE* the Muppets, and was so hoping for something better.

The voices kind of drove me nuts. They were close, but far enough away from what they should have been to drive me nuts. Like, Kermit. He introduced himself as Kermit "thuh" frog. No no, it's Kermit "thee" frog.

Excuse the repeats/venting for a moment...

Fozzie DID sound like Piggy...I mean sure, same person does the voice, alright, but pleeeaassee try to seperate the two, okay?

and some of the comments WERE way out of line! Girls gone wild, Gonzos nipples, the entire chicken scene with that strange computer animated girl with the large chest that then turned into the seductive chicken....YUK

What a dissapointment. What was great about the other muppet movies (ie: Take Manhattan & Great Caper) was that they could appeal to children AND adults with the same humor. And it was a humor that didn't step over the line.

Yes, I'm a 22 year old who still loves the muppets (some would call it an obsession) and I face much teasing, but I have always been willing to defend myself because of the pure entertainment that Jim's muppets gave that few others (Disney being the exception) could. Now, all I can hope is that people did not see THOSE muppets and think they were the ones that I care so much for...and on that note, I'm going to abc.com to find a means to tell them how I felt about this...

I thought it was cute. Not the best thing in the world but it was okay. I cracked up in the nipples part. Sorry. It's so wrong but hilarious. The girls gone wild part was funny but kinda inappropriate, but oh well. Ashanti can't act if her life depended on it. Stick to singing, girl. I liked Pepe but I still don't get why they used a prawn instead of a dog to be Toto. Just like someone else asked, what ever happened to Ruff (I think that's his name).

In general, it was cute, but not the best thing ever. I guess that's what you get with a made-for-TV movie.

Muppet trivia

The piano-playing dog was Rowlf. I've been wondering if he was retired when Jim Henson died because he was the very first muppet.

I haven't managed to watch the movie yet. We came running home from Star Wars Ep. 3 to start the videotape. The kids were not interested in it at all--though they love Muppet Christmas Carol, Muppets from Space, the original Muppet Movie, and Muppet Treasure Island. I was hoping that the muppets would make Wizard of Oz more accessible for my kids (they've always been freaked out by the original and won't watch once the Munchkins come on). Oh, well--I hope I can enjoy it anyway.
