Re: Disney Fever

This is the one place my family gets away from the worries, the jobs, etc. No other place on the face of the Earth makes us feel this way! My husband (normally a grouch) is a totally different person down here. He is totally tuned ino a child and we love it!!!! He has Disney fever like the rest of us and can't wait to go every year. We are from New York and I have to tell you after last September 11th, we came down and it brought such a peace in our family. Why people chose not to come is beyond me. It was worth it!!! We have been coming since my kids were little and they are both young adults now. The four of us still come down together and love the family atmosphere, the joy and happiness it brings. You can't get that feeling anywhere else in the world. When your kids are 21 and 26 and they still come down with their parents you know they are hooked!!! For people who come down all the time, it's definitely a fever. You need a fix each year. You can only understand it, if you truly have it!!!! :)

I agree. I go AT LEAST once a year. And I came with my parents up until the end of high school, now I go with friends. It's the best week or two of the year!

We've always gone as a family once a year (we live in upstate New York, so it requires planning). I also go for a week every summer by myself. WDW changes all the time, I think, in little ways as well as the more obvious ways. One thing that DOESN'T change, though, is how terrific I feel when I'm there - no matter what the weather is like, and no matter how crowded the parks are or aren't! It's truly a magical place, and it never loses its charm for me. :)

What do these people get out of it? Personally I go every 4 or 5 years but noting changes from month to month, or even year to year. (Remember this is a question and is in no way to be taken as a criticism). :D

This is the kind of question where an explanation is useless. It's like trying to explain to my kids why I love avocado. I just do.

First, when going to WDW, you just don't have time to do EVERYTHING, so if you don't go except every couple years, you always have to do the "can't miss" things. When we go, we always try to fit in some new things whether its a new restaurant, ride, show, etc...

Second, I like to see it at different times of the year, so I can do that faster if I go more times in a year.

Third, and this is the most important reason, it is not real life there. I have traveled a lot around the US and gone abroad before, but no other place makes me feel like all is right with the world like WDW does.

OK let's forget about that intangible we on the Boards here call "Magic" just for a moment if we may. Why do people buy timeshares and go to the same Island year after year. Did the sand or the water change? No. Did they build a new hotel?? well that isnt it either, as you wouldnt be staying there. Yet the timeshare business is still around so I have to assume it is desirable to at least some people.
Part of why I go to Disney is it is relatively close. I live in NYC so in 2 1/2 hours I can be away from all the stress of my everyday life here in the City and be in Fantasyland for a few days. It is a mental type of vacation as it certainly isnt a physically relaxing vacation in any sense of the word, although as an AP holder I dont feel the burning need to see and do EVERYTHING in the time I have there as I know I will be coming back. The biggest part for me though is the Magic. I love that special something that only Disney has. I live 40 minutes rom Great Adventure Six Flags and it just isnt the same. It isnt even close actually. Disney is an escape for me into a world that Id like to have where Fairies Fly, Princesses dance, and a happy little Mouse named Mickey keeps alive the spirit of a true pioneer named Walt Disney!!!! Does this answer your question?? Belle

To CDS,

In reply to your question. Not all, but a large majority of people that are registered on these boards are what we might call Disney fanatics. I haven't been to Disney since December of 1999, but before that I tried to go every year. A couple of years I went twice. I live in Ohio so it is a bit hard sometimes to go more than 2 times in one year but I would if I had the time.
I don't understand though how you could say it doesn't change. They are always adding new hotels, new parks or additions to parks. They change the parades from season to season and quite often have special events going on.
I respectfull hope that this might give some answers to your question. I will be going this year from December 28, 2002 to January 4, 2003. I am bringing 8 other people besides myself.

To Figmentmom,

I agree with you completely. Some people have told me that they don't feel especially happy at Disney because they know the cast members are paid to make the guests happy; that doesn't make a difference to me. I feel wonderful when I am there, whether I am there with famil, friends, or by myself.

Of course they are paid, working at Disney is their job. With that said, you still must have a certain something to be believable. My sister worked for the Disney store here in Chicago. Their interview process was different than anything she or I had ever experienced before. You must be a "Disney" type person to work for the Disney Corp. Just as we have the bug, Disney Cast Members do as well.

Never bored

To btb6mm,

That might be something that has also helped me eveytime that I have gone. Each time that I have gone, except once, I have taken a different group & number of people, so as you had stated, I love watching them experience each ride and event for the first time. I am going again December 28 to January 4 of 2003, and this time besides my son, his girlfriend, her 20-month old daughter, my brother, and mom, I am also taking a very good friend of mine and his wife and 14 year old daughter. My friend and his wife haven't been to Disney in 15 years. They are in for so many neat things.

Magic, stress relief, the need to feel constant happiness, the smells of Disney, the feel of Disney, and everything else that everyone posted. What a question!!! We go 2-3 times a year and always find something new. Sometimes I wish I didn't find something new. I liked the original so much that it sometimes hurts to find something new. etc, etc. etc.

It's a complete disconnect from reality. The happy people, beautiful scenery and weather, fun things to do, and Mickey Mouse everywhere = powerful mojo.

Now I think that people are getting the wrong idea about me. Did I say that I disliked Disney??? No, not at all. Heck I even applied to the Disney college program and was accepted. I just want to know what makes people want to go to Disney so much. I like Disney as much as the next guy but for me it’s a major undertaking (very expensive). So I just wanted to know why people go so many times in a year, that’s all. I'm not saying that I hate Disney or that people who go there more than one time a year are stupid. When I said that "nothing changes" I believe now that I miss spoke. I beg your forgiveness and hope my image hasn’t been tarnished.

Happy Thanksgiving all. :slurp:

We go because it is the greatest place in the world to escape from reality. the heaviest thing we watch on TV is the Disney channel, and the biggest descision we make is where to make a PS reservation.

greatest place

Yes, I also agree. WDW is the greatest place on earth to leave reality for awhile. I am a bit different in that I do watch a lot of cable late at night. I watch a lot of news and I do watch horror movies, and drama. I do have to deal with a lot reality, a lot of people in my work. I love to come to Disney to forget all that for a short time. 32 days left and we are there again! WDW here we come. December 28 to January 4.

For us we try to go twice a year, we love the Food and Wine Festival and Christmas time at Disney. This year we were able to go as well for the 4th July holiday. I think every trip brings me peace, fun times and i come back relaxed ( believe it or not) maybe not physically but mentally recharged for my daily back to normal routine ! If hubby or family can't go i just take a quick trip by myself ( week end) and i'm home again ! Sounds sappy doesn't it ?:D

I have been there every weekend for the last 3 weeks! Any excuse to go, for me! I just LOVE it, everything about it, and I NEVER get tired of it. It is nice to come to this site to hear from others who feel this way too.
