EPCOT Multiple 3-hour+ waits at EPCOT

No one wants every ride to be the same, you can make high-capacity rides without ending up like MK where you make Mermaid an omnimover for “reasons.”

That was always EPCOT’s problem.

Give us a Matterhorn Coaster, actually use Wonders of Life, drop an EMV style ride, etc.

That definitely wasn't a problem for EPCOT. It had one of the best attraction lineups of any theme park ever.

The content of a ride is what matters; not the ride system. Otherwise every flying coaster is the same ride, every omnimover is the same ride, etc.

The issue with EPCOT was that some of the attractions (although not all) were at least partially outdated by the early 1990s and needed content updates. The park was wildly successful in the 1980s with the original attraction lineup.

Nemo is an omnimover and a lot better than a 4 min ride through an aquarium you’re about to see from the other side. LWTL is also a people eater.

The SeaCabs were part of the reason the Living Seas was such a masterpiece (one of Imagineering's all-time triumphs). But they were never intended to be a standalone attraction; it doesn't really make sense to compare them to Nemo one to one. They were only one component of a larger whole.

Nemo is also one of the worst rides at WDW.

World Showcase has never had a great attraction lineup even if Future World did, and NYE in particular highlights that issue by condensing everyone into the lagoon area. Having the 4-6 additional attractions the area really needs would probably help a bit if only by creating more queue space for bodies.

I don't think it was as big an issue when Future World was full of great long people eaters -- plus the FW pavilions also had numerous other activities -- but current EPCOT doesn't offer nearly as much in the former Future World.

But yeah, World Showcase barely has an attraction lineup at all. They definitely need to add attractions.

That's largely because most of the plans for it never ended up happening.

Tough crowd…

Nemo was a way for them to put a little appeal on a rotting Epcot pavilion…which they have largely failed to do over and over again in time

It is what it is. We’re lucky they haven’t given it the wonders of life treatment
If the focus of the pavilion was still the Seas with maybe a few Nemo-based exhibits and Turtle Talk I wouldn't have the issue I have with it. The problem is It has literally become all about Nemo with actual oceanography as an afterthought. Also, I have been suggesting a solution to the WOL for eleven years now and apparently Disney is too stupid to actually figure it out for themselves.

Actually…it was so expensive…combined with the idea of tech innovation…that it wasn’t really a success at all for many years…it really only got that way in the early to mid 90s…when change was needed and they weren’t gonna commit to the costs.

Two of the four Orlando parks would NEVER have been built again if the collection of non creatives in charge had say

I agree…but they have a dumb fanbase and they’re catering too it. And have only done more and more of it since.

Epcot had an imbalance for sure

What was shocking from others I know that were in parks yesterday was how almost “light” the others were

Especially magic kingdom and DAK

weird
I wonder why on the day that people get drunk at midnight, were people not at the park that serves much less alcohol and the park not open till midnight.

It's a real headscratcher that one

It’s still very much about educating about oceanography. There are guides throughout explaining process of rescuing animals, ocean ecosystems, marine conservation, divers lockout demos returned, etc. You can focus on nemo but besides bruce’s shark world, and turtle talk, most of seabase is very light on the nemo overlays.

I very rarely am there during peak times (Christmas/New Years - any 3 day weekend). But occasionally have been. My mindset is completely different.

Rides are pretty much an afterthought. If I happen across a queue that is 30-45 minutes for the right type of ride. Maybe.

Otherwise my pass will get me into the park to see some shows and hit some trails at AK, stroll around World Showcase, hit Main Street and maybe a couple of shops at MK, take a Gondola over to DHS, and do some resort hopping. I'll also focus on some ADRs in the resorts so I don't need to take buses from DS.

100%

And this is kinda an unwritten rule in my mind.

It’s never about rides in “peak” crowds
