I have registered my daughter for her birthday as we will be down there during her actual birth date.

We are planning on buying 5 day passes for everyone? How does that work with her birthday free ticket? We start parks on Monday and her Birthday is not till Wednesday and we are staying till Saturday? Does anyone know how this works. We are planning a buying 5 day passes with water parks and more.

Thanks!

Though it doesn't apply in your situation, if you'd been arriving *on* your daughter's birthday (or her birthday was your first day in the parks) you also could have gotten her free ticket and then upgraded it to a 5-day pass. You would only have to pay the difference between a 1-day base ticket and the price of the 5-day ticket.

I have an issue like that, I arrive on my birthday but I'm getting an annual pass which I won't activate until my birthday. I would much rather get the gift card than a birthday ticket which I've already paid for within the AP but not activated.

Could i activate it and then manage to sweet talk them into a gift card???

That question is helpfully answered on their site in the FAQ section
Q: I purchased* a valid Passholder Pass or a Multi-Day Ticket that I will use for admission on my birthday in 2009. Is there anything else I could receive on my birthday?

A: Yes, you have several options which are available for you to select once you arrive at the Park with your confirmation message, your proper valid ID, and your Passholder Pass or Multi-Day Ticket that you will use for admission on your birthday. You can choose one of the following:

  • Disney's Special Birthday FASTPASS® Cards+. Save time waiting in line and get immediate entrance to the FASTPASS® return lines of 6 select FASTPASS® attractions at the theme park you visit that day. No need to return later in the day to ride. Plus, when you select this option, you can also receive cards for up to 5 additional members of your party+.
  • A birthday fun card in an amount equal to the price of a 1-day Magic Your Way base ticket* for you to use for certain purchases including select merchandise, recreation or tour experiences, or for Disney's PhotoPass® on-site services at participating locations at Walt Disney World® Resort; or
  • A 1-day Magic Your Way base ticket for you to use any time until your next birthday.
Hope this Helps!

The card that they give you has a credit on it that either gets you into the park or allows you to use it like a credit card. There is a magnetic strip on the back. Below is a picture of the actual card.

If you have valid multi-day admission to present to Guest Relations *on* your birthday, then you can get one of the alternate options, even if you activated it that morning.

I don't know what happened to mine but it basically just details out the exclusions. China, Japan and Morocco pavilions are excluded as are any other non-Disney owned location such as Arribas Brothers, hair braiding, the non-Disney stores in Dowtown Disney (Basin, etc.), food, and such.

It CAN be used for tours or merchandise at any Disney-owned shop. (Basically any of your major park shops like Emporium and such are valid.) This also includes things like Art of Disney.

Right well I think I'll run to the AK as I'm staying at AKV as soon as i get there activate my pass and then try to wangle my gift card. Will it matter that it'll be in the evening as I don't land until 4pm??

Nope. Just has to be the actual birthday. Anytime that day is fine.

Helpful thread.

How about this?
What if you have your multi day ticket, but you're not planning on going into the parks on your birthday. Can you still go to a ticket booth, get your birthday merchandise card, and not enter a park?

Let me phrase it differently.
When they give you the merchandise card, do they scan your multi day ticket so that it automatically uses an admission? Or is the merchandise card tied into your multi day ticket so that it only works once you've entered a park?

Sorry for the poorly worded questions, but I know some of you must know what I'm asking.
Thanks.

Sure. Since you do it at Will Call and not inside a park, there's no rule saying you have to go to a park that day. You just have to have valid multi-day tickets or an AP to prove you qualify for the gift card option.
