Mr. Toad's Wild Ride

Mr. Toads Wild Ride was a great little ride that took guests on a wild and crazy trip through the 1949 Disney film "The Adventures of Ichabod Crane and Mr. Toad". It operated from The Magic Kingdom's grand opening on October 1, 1971 to September 7, 1998, and is being replaced by "The Many Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh". During the three-minute ride, Guests sat in old motor cars as they crashed through Toad Hall, barns, a gypsy camp, haystacks, and eventually a train, to end up in a very hot place. The ride also had encounters with all your favourite Mr. Toad characters including Ratty, Mole, Badger, the Weasels, and even the villainous bartender Winkie. One great thing about this ride, was that it had two completely different tracks (which they used on busy days) on which you saw completely different scenes! So, it was actually like two rides in one. Even though this ride was very low-tech, using black-light and mostly 2-D characters, it was still one of The Magic Kingdom's most popular rides, and will always be remembered.

Personally, I have never been able to deceide for myself if I think it was a good idea for MTWR to be closed down (considering what would be in the best interest of WDW and it's patrons). Despite that, I do miss the attraction, so I created this thread, so that we can discuss attraction info, and most importantly MTWR stories and memories.

To start it off, here are a handfull of MTWR links:

I rode the original Disneyland version reently. I always liked the ride when I was young, though the ride's age shows. Still, for one of the first "dark rides" in history, (and quite possibly the most popular of all) I can see how this could have been a favorite attraction for many Disneyland visitors when it first opened! I mean, it must have been to 1950's guests what Tower of Terror or Spiderman is to us!

And ya gotta love the old cars you ride in!

I believe they were selling one of the ride vehicles, "McBadger", on Disney Auctions starting at $5,000. I don't believe anybody made a bid, though...

I am confused. Did the Disneyworld MTWR have 2 tracks? One of the sites was hard to follow.

I was wondering that, too. There was only one track at Disneyland. I remember there being 2 at WDW, both had different adventures (but either way you'd end up in aich ee double hockeysticks!)

I love Disney's animated Mr. Toad, but never really enjoyed the ride too much. It just didn't capture the same feel for me. I like the ride that replaced it better better. I always wondered how long it would take Disney to figure out they needed a Pooh ride.

Has anyone ever noticed that in the animated "Adventures of Mr.Toad and Ichabod", that they never do show Mr. Toad driving the car??

I guess the ride was sort of like a "deleted scene" that never happened in the film.

Yeah, I noticed that. I'm pretty sure that there is no possible way his feet could reach the gas and have him be able to steer the car. No wonder he was such a bad driver.

I guess the track to that ride was the 1950's version of the Primeval Whirl! All I can remember as a kid is pretending to get whiplash. :D

RIP Mr. Toad

I love Winnie the Pooh, but I think they should have kept my man Toad. Especially if they were going to replace Snow White's attraction years later.

Pooh + Toad

sounds better than

Pooh + a Meet and Greet
