Trip Report Movin' In? Two Weeks in the World!

Hello! My husband (Brad) and I (Amy) just got back from a 2 week trip to Walt Disney World, and had a blast! We are frequent visitors and last year we decided to stay at WDW for 2 weeks so we could take touring slow and do things we've wanted to do but never had time to put in the schedule. It was heavenly to have so much time to play with, and of course in the end when it came time to leave we weren't quite ready (although our wallets were!).

I hope you enjoy a recap of our adventures, please share any thoughts or questions you might have! :) It will be full of pictures too (including food!).

I am going to take a brief break to tag a few people here on the boards that have expressed interest in my travels and some that might be. If I missed anyone sorry, but everyone is welcome! :D
@figmentfan423 @Songbird76 @betty rose @donaldtoo @PacNWTigger @MouseDreaming @Tuvalu @JenniferS @StarWarsGirl @MinnieM123 @PUSH @Mr Ferret 88 @MOXOMUMD @Gabe1 @BuddyThomas @Cesar R M

Here are also some links to the other trip reports I've done.

All caught up! Can't wait to read more :)

After drinks we got the cheese empanadas from the stand outside the pavilion.
Those sound so yummy! I'm going to have to try that next time.

The awakenings of the Tree of Life were amazing! This did not disappoint and exceeded our expectations.
A bunch of people have said they enjoyed this part of the new AK offerings, and I'm thinking of going to the park just for that! We have short trip coming up, so we were going to just skip it, but I want to see the awakenings!

e also love to listen to the WDW Radio podcast and the host Lou Mongello was having a meet of the month at the Land so we stopped in to say hello.
I love that show :) He is definitely a pixie-duster, but it doesn't bother me. I enjoy his more history-focused episodes. I tend to skip the top 10s and listener questions. The legends episodes are fantastic! I'd love to meet him someday.

Other thoughts so far: I'll eat all the mushrooms for you! I love them :hungry:. Also, we might have to try Yachtsman! My husband loves steak, so I bet he'd love it. Oh and Hoegaarden is a good beer...glad you tried it. That wit is one of my favs!

Hi and welcome to the forums! I'm glad you are enjoying my report! October in WDW should be great, I've never been at Halloweentime and since you haven't been since 2008 I'm sure you will have a lot of new stuff to explore. :) By the way Brad says it is cool that you are from Scotland, he wants to go there to go to St. Andrews (I don't know he said it has something to do with golf...;)).

Yes cheese empanadas are wonderful, just don't try to get a "deal" and order the children's version. Those are served plain without the salsa verde and that really makes the dish. If you can fit in the Tree of Life Awakening is worth seeing, if you can fit it in and still see all the other stuff you want to see. I too like the history episodes of WDW Radio best as well, but I think the Top Tens are pretty funny with Tim. I really liked when Lou would have Jim Korkis on but he hasn't been on for awhile.

Continuing on.....
We got dinner at Old Port Royale at the Caribbean before we headed to another park. I wanted to go to Shutters, but Brad didn't want table service he wanted something quick.

We have been to Jamaica a couple times, and Brad fell in love with the jerk chicken there. So when he saw they had it on the menu he ordered that. It isn't super spicy like he was looking for but he enjoyed it and said the chicken wasn't dried out.
IMG_9222.JPG

I got a chicken sandwich. I really liked this there was cheese, bacon, a sauce of some sort and a pineapple slaw. I don't like slaw as a rule but when at Disney I seem to dig it. The fries had a nice seasoning to them as well, like a seasoning I like to put on roasted potatoes sometimes using tumeric, paprika, and curry.
IMG_9223.JPG

Then we headed out to the Studios for the night. Brad wanted to see the Star Wars fireworks again. We also decided to fit in Fantasmic (no pictures). It had rained earlier and the weather was iffy but Fantasmic still went on, our plan was to head out right when the "Steamboat" came out but right after the evil queen transformation happened they stopped the show so we left then. So we got to see most of it, the best part was since we had used a fast pass for it Disney added an any time Fast pass to our account! We had to use it by a certain time, but we were able to use it at the Magic Kingdom the next day. Awesomesauce!
IMG_9224.JPG

IMG_9225.JPG

Brad really wanted to trade with the Jawa's, especially since I had success on my solo trip. But they kept running away from him. Eventually one of them gave him a lens wipe, and even tried to clean his glasses for him!
IMG_9231.JPG

We didn't do the dessert party tonight, but I hadn't been able to get a decent picture of the area the night we did go so this is where it was. I guess it is located inside Launch Bay now.
IMG_9234.JPG

The line was too long for Tower, not enough time to ride it and do Fantasmic, but it does look awesome!

IMG_9236.JPG

Ready for fireworks again. I guess since it rained and Fantasmic cleared out early people must have thought there wouldn't be fireworks so we walked up to an awesome spot, and even had room around us, I mean I could have stuck out my arm fully and not touch anyone. That was pretty sweet!

Day 11: July 1
Magic Kingdom this morning! I wish I could wake up to the Mickey floral everyday. Well, with my track record with plants, perhaps not.
IMG_9245.JPG

IMG_9248.JPG

IMG_9250.JPG

A little Peter Pan, I don't mind going through the queue (first thing in the morning) and being able to see the cool queue.
IMG_9262.JPG

After a little touring we stopped in at Gaston's for breakfast. We shared the cinnamon roll (good, I like the maple flavoring, but needs a little butter), and the ham and cheese stuffed pretzel (yum) and some free ice waters.
IMG_9263.JPG

IMG_9268.JPG

Oh why did Tangled have to just be bathrooms.....side note....I think instead of the Princess meet and greet that replaced Snow Whites Scary Adventures, I think they should have rethemed that as a Tangled ride. But alas, they didn't ask me.....
IMG_9270.JPG

I always like the shadowy look of the train in the lift hill at Big Thunder, so I tried to capture it. I wasn't that successful, so I guess I will have to go back and try again!

We decided to head off to Adventureland and it is rare sight to not see the tiki statues plagued by people so I was pleased to get a nice picture before we went on a long sailing adventure of the Jungle Cruise!
IMG_9282.JPG

IMG_9284.JPG

IMG_9290.JPG

Then we journeyed through the Swiss Family Robinson Treehouse, I have a soft spot for this film. It is the first movie we watched as a family on the night my parents bought our first VCR. And that was back in the days when VCR's were new, so they were super expensive and my mom and dad had a big "discussion" about it in the car, but my dad won and got the VCR. And besides us kids guess who ended up using it...yep my Mom. She found out she could record her soaps, and other shows like Regis and Kathie Lee and loved that thing....
Back to the Treehouse, Brad is not a fan so we didn't spend a ton of time. He likes Tarzan's better in Disneyland, probably because there are less stairs, and I don't think he has ever watched the Swiss Family.
IMG_9296.JPG

IMG_9299.JPG

IMG_9305.JPG

Then Pirates was basically a walk on, we just had to walk through the line.
IMG_9316.JPG

And then we rode the Liberty Belle, we were lucky to get the shady bench on the 2nd deck.

So we did a little Philharmagic, & Dwarfs, and caught a little of the Trolley show before heading to the Contemporary to head to Disney Springs.

We decided to eat at Delux Burger and get some ribs at Morimoto's Street Food (walk up window).
Inside Delux
IMG_9381.JPG

We shared the BBQ bacon burger and a small fry and got all the dipping sauces to try. Most all the dipping sauces were really good, there was a blue cheese (I think it was blue cheese) that I liked and I don't normally like blue cheese. There was a mustardy one too that was pretty good too. I liked the fries, they had the skins on and reminded me of fries from a fair.

IMG_9380.JPG

The ribs at the STreet Food walk up window were good, but not as good as the ones in the table service part of the restaurant.

I think the new Springs Area is really pretty, I love the blues in the water.
IMG_2377.JPG

Not a lot of Zootopia in the parks, so this was cute at DS.
IMG_2380.JPG

We headed back to the resort for a swim and a nap but it started raining when we got back and it was still raining when we woke up.

Bus stop area at the springs.
IMG_9384.JPG

You might be able to see a little rain in the picture.
IMG_2385.JPG

Eventually we headed out to Hollywood Studios and did a couple attractions, and after Star Tours at about 6 ish we decided to see if there was anything available at the Sci Fi. It was still pouring but we made it over there and a few other people had the same idea as us, but we were able to get a seat with about a 20 minute wait.

Neither of us had ever eaten at Sci-Fi before and it was very enjoyable. Right now if someone asked me 50's or Sci-fi, it would be a tough call. It was fun to watch the old movie stuff at the Sci-fi and I really enjoyed my meal.
IMG_9388.JPG

IMG_9395.JPG

We shared the onion rings, and it had a yummy sauce. I guess the sauce had horseradish but it wasn't a strong flavor.
IMG_9398.JPG

Brad made his own burger with BBQ and Bacon, he enjoyed it.
IMG_9399.JPG

I had the ruben, but it wasn't really a ruben because I do not care for sauerkraut so I asked for it without it. And it was a GOOD corned beef sandwich.

Day 12: July 2
We started the day at Animal Kingdom, we went for magic hours in the morning. I like AK in the morning as it isn't too hot yet and it is the least crowded.
IMG_9421.JPG

We always start with Expedition Everest.
IMG_9424.JPG

Then we headed to the safari. We had a good driver (unlike our night one) and saw lots of animals.
IMG_9441.JPG

We didn't have much for breakfast, so this sign in Harambe was tempting.
IMG_9442.JPG

On Safari...
IMG_9446.JPG

IMG_9478.JPG

This lion reminded me of my dog at home, because she likes to sleep with her legs out like this too. And after a little over 12 days away from her, I've been missing her so it made me a little sad.
IMG_9505.JPG

But the music jazzed me up a little as we headed to Dinoland.

Brad and I played around in Dinoland for awhile. I rode Primeval Whirl, I forgot how bumpy that ride is. But the little Triceratops Spin was fun. Dinosaur is fun too, again bumpy, and every time I ride it I wish it was Indiana Jones.
IMG_9535.JPG

IMG_9539.JPG

IMG_9546.JPG

By the end of Dinoland we headed back to Everest and did a twirl through single rider and after that we were hungry. It was about quarter after 10 so I didn't think Yak and Yeti would be open yet, but it was and we shared a side of chicken fried rice. It is such a good deal, for about $4 it is a lot of food.
IMG_2412.JPG

Next we took a walk on the Maharajah Jungle Trek and I was glad we did because the tiger were really active. There was a girl tiger that was playing with a toy type thing, it was fun to watch her pounce around. And then this guy was just chilling.
IMG_9554.JPG

IMG_9555.JPG

Then we headed over to the Flame Tree to complete our quest of trying all of AK's ribs. Brad got the full rack, and I got the 3 meat sampler. It was all really good and we had a great view of Everest.
IMG_9576.JPG

IMG_9578.JPG

And this little fella was on the prowl. He did sneak some bones off of Brad's plate and a cup of BBQ sauce when we weren't looking. But a lady a couple of tables over had her whole pork sandwich taken. So beware if you see this guy or his friends hanging out at your table.

So after Animal Kingdom we had some relaxation time back at the Caribbean. We also did some laundry while we splashed in the pool, and relaxed in the hammocks.

When we woke up from our nap it was raining, and we waited awhile before heading out we even changed our fast pass for the Speedway for later that night. So the rain didn't appear to be diminishing so we headed out. By the time we got to the MK the rain had slowed to a drizzle.
IMG_9598.JPG

And we headed for Space Mountain and used a fast pass.
IMG_9601.JPG

IMG_9610.JPG

Then we did the best attraction in Tomorrowland...that's right....the Peoplemover!
IMG_9616.JPG

Tomorrowland was a little busy.
IMG_9620.JPG

Then we headed over for a great meal at the Skipper Canteen. We really enjoyed the food, service, and atmosphere of the Canteen.
IMG_9637.JPG

IMG_9641.JPG

We thought the little trove of Christmas decorations was a nice nod to the Jingle Cruise.

I thought the goal was to share food at this meal, so I got the steak and Brad got the Char sui pork. But once he tried his he only shared a taste. But both were good. We did share the Skipper's mac and cheese which was good, it reminded me of a Greek dish called pastitsio.

Steak with Yucca puffs

IMG_9664.JPG

IMG_9667.JPG

We got the Kungaloosh dessert and the cake looked dry but it wasn't. It was a delightful chocolate and banana dessert.
IMG_9668.JPG

And just a few shots of the restaurant, even the bath was nicely decorated.
IMG_9669.JPG

IMG_9679.JPG

IMG_9680.JPG

If you go, take some time to look at the titles of the books in the library there are some fun gag titles.
IMG_9695.JPG

And I thought this was fun....

After dinner we took a Grand Circle Tour on the Railroad and eventually ended up in Fantasyland. We watched Wishes for back by Gaston's which wasn't a bad view, but there were a few bugs back there. I got 6 mosquito bites.
IMG_9718.JPG

IMG_9721.JPG

IMG_9727.JPG

IMG_9732.JPG

We also did Enchanted Tales with Belle. There weren't many people, so Hubby got picked to be a Knight.
IMG_9748.JPG

IMG_9768.JPG

IMG_9772.JPG

Then we used our fast pass for the Speedway and meandered around before heading out. Before we headed out we grabbed some cookies for tomorrow's breakfast (healthy I know;)).

Excellent pictures of the tiger!! I like your new t-shirt for Animal Kingdom. It seems like the past few years the only things I enjoy buying are from Animal Kingdom (or the Mitsukoshi Dept. Store in the Japan pavilion at EPCOT).

Love the inside pictures of Skipper Canteen--very nicely themed in there--even the bathrooms! :joyfull:

I got the shirt in March and when I wore it I got a few compliments. A couple cast members at AK said they liked it and hadn't seen it before. One of them was working in the store I bought it in! So I looked and didn't see it anywhere. It is fun looking at the shops at AK, there are some unique things there.
