Motion Sickness/Simulator Sickness

I struggled with motion sickness a lot when I was a kid and then it didn't bother me as much but for the past few years I've not been able to do any motion sim rides. Also, sadly even the tea cups have been getting the best of me.

Ugh sorry to hear that. Technology and computers are exceeding what some of us humans can handle. Wow you were brave to even try the Tea Cups. Haven't been on those since 1990!!

Thank you for this-you sound very similar to him! He's great with a coaster but screens, forget it.
I agree that some are ok, some are bad. Some he will just have to avoid and he's ok with that. Sorry to hear nothing has really helped you medication wise.

Nope.... and I've tried all the same medications my wife takes (who does suffer motion sickness even in simple airplane flights) and while my wife found some of them to work for her they don't do anything for me when it comes to rides. He should be ready to close his eyes on Star Tours... Mission Space wasn't too bad and Soar'n wasn't bad at all... can't recall any other Disney simulator off hand... He should just be glad you aren't going to Universal there are a lot of them there that would likely force him to close his eyes.

Now that I really think, Star Tours is the one ride at Disney we do that may be an issue. The thing is we ARE going to Universal! So we'll be avoiding a lot there for sure.

Well the good news if you're a Harry Potter fan is that even though the latest Harry Potter is a type of simulator ride it didn't make me sick... I think it is because you are closed off in a simulator box like you are on things like Star Tours... It was more like a very jerky version of Soar'n so he can probably do Harry Potter with no problems... But don't do Simpsons ride it took me from queasy to thinking I might puke before the ride was even half way over.

We have ridden Forbidden Journey many times and surprisingly he did great. I don't have these simulator issues like him and it even made me a bit disoriented, not him. Great tips for Simpsons (have done before but skipping this time) and Gringotts. Thanks!

Sounds like he may have Vertigo. I have a mild case of that, on top of my pretty severe motion sickness.

Over the past 4 years, I've eliminated Everest and Space Mountain from my line-up. I rode Star Tours once as a teen, and will never again.

I can ride Soarin, but there are a few times where I just have to look off to the side of the theater or up at the ride mechanical system, to affix my focus on something other than the screen.

There are many rides at Universal that I'll never do again, and they pretty much all have screens. My wife and I rode Forbidden Journey a few years ago. About 10 feet into the ride, I knew it was a mistake. I clamped my eyes shut, clenched the handles, and sweated profusely while praying for it to be over. I opened my eyes once when it slowed down, only to find our vehicle "floating" through a room that was entirely screens. :hungover:

It's a bummer to not be able to enjoy those attractions, but I'd rather feel good the rest of the day.

Oh wow you've got it pretty nasty I am sorry to hear that.

Regarding your last comment-that's about where he's at and where I'm hoping he is on the trip. I'm impressing upon him that it's better to avoid it and feel good then man it out and do it and have to go back to the room feeling awful. That's a great reminder-thank you!!

I've been on every thrill ride imaginable, including just about every coaster on the east coast. However, the only ride I've ever gotten sick on is the Astro Orbiters..........

Huh isn't that something?? Was it the height of it or the fact that it just went round and round or something else? We rode that once many years ago and decided we didn't need to do it again.

Great Adventure now has one of those spinning chair rides that rises 200 feet, I told my kids to go ahead and I'll sit it out.........
