PLEASE DON'T SHUT DOWN SPACE MT AGAIN!

We went in the late 80s when the ride was shut down and it was just a cold experience in the park without it... although the peoplemover did give you cool views of the track with the lights up full.

I will help everybody out by posting the comments from Screamscape. It's not really news, just speculation.

Future Projects - Rumors and Speculation - (10/11/05) I’ve got one more revamped existing attraction rumor that has come back after floating in limbo for years. After having a lot of success with it at Disneyland, could the Magic Kingdom be thinking about undertaking their own complete rebuilt of Space Mountain, possible converting the structure into a single track ride like the other Space Mountains around the world.

forced interaction with other sites is half the fun.

As a Tomorrowland CM, I have heard that WDI is thinking about a refurb/redo on SM in the next few years. Only a rumor though. Tomorrowland CMs, Coordinators and Managers don't know for sure, that is just what I have heard floating around the Land. Time will tell.

My reaction to this "rumor" - Why on earth would they want to put in only one track, when it would, in theory, cut their riders-per-hour in half?

I used to read Screamscape regularly, but found quite some time ago that it's "news" wasn't really worth reading. Kinda like another.... unnamed.... website *coughJHMcough*.

If they changed to side by side seating even with the same length cars it would at a minimum keep capacity the same. I would assume the single track would end up a little longer so it could probably fit more cars at a time which would increase capacity.

Actually, it's possible that capacity would INCREASE, potentially greatly. Instead of 6 riders per train, it could be 32 or 36 depending on the size of the train and the length of the track and how many trains you could get on it at once...

Not saying that I put a ton of stock into what screamscape has to say... But I could see IF they did a major overhaul to the ride, potentially switching the track layout to increase the train size, therefore increasing capacity.

But my honest opinion is they won't do a redesign like that. Part of Disneyland's success, I believe, is that the track layout is the SAME. It hasn't been changed. If they'd have changed the track all up, I wonder if it'd be getting the same reception it has. Maybe?? Who knows.

Whoops. I was typing as you were posting. Sorry to duplicate exactly what you had to say.

You know, I hate to see many people bashing on Lance like this. As a contributor to Screamscape (not for WDW, but for a local park), it pains me to see people think that Lance is posting personal speculation. Have you seen anything on there regarding Harry Potter, monorail expansion or a 5th park? NO! In fact, Lance back most of his stuff up with news from various local news sources. He's not going to post things unless they come from a trusted source.

Here's a quote from the news/rumors page of Screamscape
Disney World - Another wild rumor for the Magic Kingdom

WILD RUMOR! Read: Take this as you will, but we've heard some things floating around. With the post from Slade, it sounds like there are some faint pangs of truth behind this.

Lastly, I'd like to say that I'm HERE because of Screamscape. I was brought here from links on Screamscape. If it wasn't for those links, I wouldn't be here.

Rumor? Yep.
Bit of truth. Yep.

Been talked about for a long time. Probably closer to happening now than ever.

Yeah, lay off Screamscape

Yes! I agree completely. I think Screamscape is one of the best "rumor" sites our there specifically because Lance does indicate when something is just a rumor, and even frankly admits that a particular tidbit doesn't seem trustworthy. That's a completely different situation from Jim Hill. I enjoy reading Jim Hill, too, but often he posts stuff that's just rumor as if it were fact. Heck, Jim posted the old canard about the Contemporary Resort being designed to be disassembled when it was time to put in new carpet, and he wouldn't budge from that even after I sent him a quote from John Hench to the contrary. But I digress! The point is, I've never had any problem separating news from rumor on Screamscape.

Screamscape is one of the most unorganized websites in terms of layout. Why are the updates in the list on the main page linked? When clicking on a update topic for a park why doesn't it jump to that topic? Instead you have scroll through the entire park history just to find the topic. On the same note, why can't it be chronological or broken down further on the park pages?

I am a web designer myself and I know the answer. Laziness. It is not hard at all to do the things above.

But I would like to also say that I visit the site frequently.
