That role, combined with his past connection to Disney, would seem to make him especially suited for this film.

Don knotts past Disney work included the following from the 1970s

No Deposit, No Return (1976)
Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo (1977)
Hot Lead and Cold Feet (1978)
The Apple Dumpling Gang (1975) with tim Conway
Gus (1976) with Tim Conway
The Apple Dumpling Gang Rides Again (1979) With Tim Conway

There is a very interesting, and mixed article about an early script of the movie: here

Go to the March 10 update. It is a neat read and if the movie is even close to the write up it will be very good. That's a big "IF" though. The whole Jennifer Tilly stuff scares me a lot more than having Eddie Murphy in the film.

You got that right... I can handle Eddie, but just thinking about Tilly's voice gives me the creeps, and in the wrong way! She has NOTHING to do with Leota, and if her role is anything like she described, she's gonna be a major comic relief, when Leota should be the big bad guy if they wanted to follow the Mansion's storyline.

Well, after reading that article, I gotta say my heart sank even more for this movie. The earlier draft sounded so nice, and then, after so many ego-trips, you have a beautifully ruined movie, much like Country Bears. It's a shame, really...

Are you kidding? It sounds great! Besides, you don't know for sure if it's going to be bad or good. Who knows. It could be a big box office hit and be nominated for15 Acadamy Awards or somthing. Ok, maybe that's a bit too drastic.:hammer:

If you pay attention to the review, you'll see that the first draft is great, but there are many indications that the director, and maybe some more people, messed with the script a lot. To me, at least, it was made clear that the movie as it stands now has little to do with that earlier draft.

I agree with Imagineer Boy Roddy. I think we should assume too much yet, at least at some point the movie was on the right track, maybe not that much was lost.

On the side... I like Country Bears the more I watch it. However, it is NOT a fan movie, nor is it an Adult movie, but to be a great family/kids movie, it almost delivers.
